I have a REAL challenge in color correction ... scuba diving videos. Red goes away with depth, but I might be shooting with underwater lights which provide full spectrum for the object, but not the background. I want to be able to color correct the entire shot and then "un-color-correct" an object in the foreground. I am WAAAY new to DaVinci and this is blowing my mind. Using DaVinci 17.

Wow! Great tutorial. I used to believe that if it's shot right, you'll never have to correct it, but have learned (quickly and by the hard way), that nothing is ever perfect no matter how well it's shot. I used to spend hours guessing how to color correct and you just showed several techniques in 7 minutes. Nicely done!

Interesting and dramatically effective. I used to mask out a section of white and balance to that. This seems easier. I also like the inclusion of balancing shadows and desaturating highlights. Smart moves.

Hi Casey, thanks for the tutorial. I noticed you prefer the LGG controls over the offset. This may be fine for rec709 footage, but for log footage this approach will actually change the linearity of your footage. In other words: I think in those scenario's using the offset / printer lights is much preferred. Also neutral blacks is (in my opinion) more important than completely neutral whites, as white naturally reflects color and is therefore also sort of a stylistic choice.

Hi Casey. First of all, your tutorials on Davinci Resolve are fantastic. Keep up the good work. I've recently, within the last two weeks, started to use Resolve (the free version) to edit footage from my Typhoon H UAV in preference to a very basic editor I used to use (Windows Movie Maker). However, I've noticed that the rendered footage stutters a bit when playing back, particularly if the drone footage is moving sideways so to speak, and the stuttering is evident even when it's uploaded to KZbin. I never had this problem using Windows Movie Maker. Now, I think that the problem is probably down to rendering settings. I wonder if you could suggest ideal rendering or any other settings to eliminate the stuttering? I'm shooting footage at 1080p @ 30fps Thanks in anticipation.

SUBBED! I am blown away with how powerful the color tools are in Resolve. I have been using Adobe products for 10 years now, but what took me 30 minutes to simply correct the white balance in Premiere Pro (using lumetri) took but 30 seconds in DaVinci (thanks to your video of course). And the end result is so much better! I have been deciding if I should switch over from Adobe to DaVinci and this video makes the decision a little easier. Also the cost, free (or 300 bucks for a lifetime) vs adobes 600+ per year for buggy programs? Speaks for itself right there. I have a slower year next year too so it'll make the switch easier.

Hi Casey, really benefited a lot from your tutorials. Just wondering if you have any tips for working with footages shot underwater at scuba diving depths. Despite using a red filter (if that's even the right technical term for it) the footages are still very blue. Granted, some part of the light spectrum are physically lost and not arriving at the camera sensor! Is there a way around this with DaVinci?

Thanks for all the tips over the years. I have a question you can hopefully answer. I am shooting video on an overexposed white background. about 95% of the background comes in at 255, 255, 255. In one corners it drops down to about 240 ish. I have tried to adjust the white in levels, auto white balance, create a matte, changed gain and other things, but I can't get it right. What is real funny, when I auto white balance the RGB shows the background at 267, 267, 267 (didn't know there was a value higher than 255). Yet after I render the video, the white background comes in around 230 ish. Any thoughts - thanks in advance.

So what I would do here is create a power window over the area that I was using to WB and then using the Vector scope and Temperature and Tint bring everything to the center of the vector scope. One that is done I turn off the power window and the adjustment is made to the entire clip. Is there something that I am missing with my approach? BTW - really enjoy your videos! Now I just use the WB Tool in Version 14.
