Note: If this doesn't work completely, open your guitar neck and duct tape your fretboard on the inside down. The board should have white circles on it, but not all do. This completely fixed the problem for me.

Thank you!!! My daughter pulled this game out after a decade of it being in storage. The battery compartments were quite corroded and then the red button stopped working. I watched this video, tried the method and didn’t have success…because the neck was going the wrong way. So, I cut the cardboard into a small square, laid it in the slot with the guitar on its back, slid the neck in and BOOM!!! We’re rocking!!! Me, the wife and our 8 and 11 year old daughters. Thank you for turning our Saturday morning into a joyful family rock fest!

Yes! It was the green and red for me. Even when I could get them semi-functional, if I used the tilt it threw them back out of whack. Now it's playing like new. This guy is a genius! 😊

Obviously we had to get them from Ebay and we were mid online argument with the sellers when we decided to take the matters into our own hands and we found our own Guitar Hero (i.e. you)! 2021 here- you just saved me from having to drop at least $50 on another guitar. THANK YOU. This fix is real and it’s so easy too. I’m glad I found this, my buttons were delayed and I was having a weird star power issue where star power would activate on its own without me tilting the guitar. I used this fix and now everything works well and the buttons are so much better with timing. I know I’m 3 years late and you may not see this, but if you do, you’re a real one much respect.

I took a qtip with some alcohol and cleaned the connection under the neck and mine appeared to be dirty, this fixed mine just sharing in case someone comes across this :)

Thanks for this! I just got an eBay guitar and the yellow button was missing a bunch. Glad to see this fix works! For people who want to keep the faceplate I found that taping the small piece of cardboard to the neck works better than trying to have it hang over the front of the body

Real late to this party but can confirm it works. Just one thing to note is the thickness of the cardboard you use. I had to put the faceplate back on with the cardboard I used and it worked. Thx for the video man really helps.

Feb 2024 and this solution fixed both my controllers, thank you! I also cut the piece of cardboard down on the outside and was able to re-fit the faceplate. Looks great, no issues!

So yeah I just got done with it and it's never been better! I bought this controller with the gh3 game used a few months ago after not playing for over 10 years lol the buttons worked fine when I got it but it felt lagey. I chalked it up to me not playing in over 10 years but eventually the buttons wouldn't register that I was hitting them on the screen. But after I tried the cardboard trick it plays better than ever!! Thank you!

I have this exact model. I bought one off of eBay (untested used) and the green and blue frets don’t register. So I’m gonna try this and see if it fixes it. If not, i have replacement fret boards laying around i could probably use

This video did help me with my unresponsive buttons, but I do have one more problem. Whenever I press g+r and strum down it registers as g+r+y, but when I strum up it does not do that. I've tried searching it up everywhere but cannot find an answer. Do you know why maybe that is?

Only thing I can think of is to check your keybindings in Clone Hero, if this doesn’t work, maybe ask in the CH discord

Ive got a ps3 les paul controller and the usb dongle. but when i connect it - i look in the hotkey menu (spacebar), it recognises 'ps3 controller blabla' but when i want to bind the keys it doesnt respond to any inputs.. anyone have any clue what it could be? (lights keep flashing though)

Yeah I was beginning to think I needed to replace my guitar but now it's perfect - I've tried opening it up, cleaning the membrane, contacts, adding a kinda backplate inside the neck, all sorts lol. This made me realise that one of the gold contacts has almost no wear - it wasn't making proper contact and this trick sorted it. I love these les paul guitars but my word they built them vastly under spec lol

If the cardboard trick works, but starts failing after while, then there is another thing you can try. And that is to clean the pins and contacts with some alcohol and a q-tip. Sometimes this problem happens because the metal corrodes and a thin layer of corrosion messes with the connection. Sometimes you need to scratch the pins and contacts with something like a knife to get rid of the corroded surface. Hope this can be of help to someone. :)

In that case it's the rubber pad, you'd have to open the neck and replace the rubber underneath the frets. no easy fixes as far as I'm aware

I just bought one of these off ebay, at first it had trouble connecting to the dongle, after i switched the batteries it connected first try. So i turn the game on and immediately i notice the buttons are finicky; not just the frets though. The frets, strum, d-pad and start/select all seem to be eating inpits and lagging.
