This was one of the best tips I've come across since learning to use blender. This is invaluable for flattening the bottom of models being sent to 3D printers. You saved me hours of fiddling. Thank you so much!

I'm doing paper models and having those almost invisible triangles is a thing in blender but in paper one would have open edges and thing won't fit as they are intended to, so it's physically impossible. thanks man, you surely had saved me hours/days of frustration :) p.s: your attitude and editing style has a lot of personality. you make things clear and entertaining; features that sadly a lot of blender tutorials lack in one or even both.

In the latest version if you hit z twice it will toggle between global and normal axis which will make that scaling to 0 not destroy your angle.

This is indeed a REALLY awesome tool. Thanks for sharing! It's the perfect tool when you want to flat things out in the average angle based on the selection. As an example, I was working on making a bamboo pole and I wanted the tip to be diagonally cut & flat (like a bamboo spear). Scale tool to flat it out, then rotation deforms the roundness. This tool allow it to be flat and retain the round form.

Thanks, big time saver. A note I'd add about 'affected non planar triangles.Pivot Point on active element is awesome with transform orientations custom Z axis. I then to SIZE it to flat with the 0 key. Also useful, duplicating a plane, then making it an object (p); that may be used to Boolean Mod verts for new unaffected faces. Not easy sounding but a great work process.

Very based, you talk like the regular kind of lazy guy. I like it! Bedder than all the computerised pitch voice 1Min tutorials with no base knowledge they just watch the 1Min Videos by them self and know nothing. It is so frustrating to end up in stars of Polys witch comes out of your model.

What's with all the triangles, Pythagoras?! Jesus Christ, you should be disgusted, and ashamed of yourself! 🤣🤣🤐Seriously though, almost a year and a half later, and this video still holds up. I just discovered loop tools, and friggin LOVE IT! I come from Cinema 4D, and it doesn't have anything like the "to sphere" or circle function so it all has to be done manually. Try pulling that off with a 32 sided hexahedron without tearing you scalp out, and throwing it across the street, lol.

Has anyone got a way to lock faces flat? I am trying this method on a lowpoly model and end up chasing myself around as it affects surrounding faces?
@greatsol2444 Жыл бұрын
While you give an excellent tutorial in every way- it still doesn’t solve a certain serious flattening problem. If you have a shape that’s not merely a quad, and it has crinkles in the face, how do you flatten it without totally rearranging the outside connecting vertices. Also what you just did can simply be done by flattening along normal Z. I guess my primary question is, how to fix crinkled surfaces that refuse to fix? I’m familiar with using edge offset, but that fails sometimes.
@PraxisVisuals Жыл бұрын
I see. Well depending on your mesh, and how much flattening you need, you could manually slide each vert. to a more flatter position, then use the technique shown in the video. That way you're giving more information to the flattening tool which in turn will help not to rearrange too much... I'm not sure if there is a way to flatten something without rearranging neighboring vertices... Sorry I couldn't help you on this one!
@greatsol2444 Жыл бұрын
@@PraxisVisuals nonono- you were actually QUITE helpful. I’ve eventually figured it out in the way you just described. It seems custom axis/orbit point and rotate individual vertices with snapping on is best. Thanks Praxis!

No sir. That scales it to a O on whatever orientation you have it set to (global, local, normal, etc...) while yes, you could make a custom orientation, but that takes much longer than simply using Loop Tools.
