Great video, thanks! Glad I came here in addition to ChrisFix's video or else I would have ended up using a chemical flush and probably regretted it.

I have a 17 model, it's going to be filled by the coolant overflow tank, passenger side if it's the same style of engine bay.

My question is, why are you warning not to use a chemical flush? What is the basis for that warning?
@NewRoad
@NewRoad 3 жыл бұрын
That is not mine - that is a warning from GM in their service manual for 'Cooling System Draining and Filling' procedure for H3. I didn't have much time to find specific reason why they do not recommend to use chemical flush. Generally, I always recommend to follow what car manufacturer prescribe 😊

@@NewRoad Thanks, I did some research and sure enough, it says DO NOT USE CHEMICAL CLEANER, by that I assume they mean like Prestone Coolant Flush or that sort of thing.

I have a 2007 chevy colorado truck with a 5 cylinder engine and I am going to drain the old antifreeze off and put dexto premixed antifreeze fluid in it, so when I drain all the old antifreeze off will there be some leftover in the engine? and if so how do I get that out, do I need to flush again as of cold water?

Captain Tripps You are perpetuating misinformation based on a problem that existed when Dexcool was introduced. The problem was not the Dexcool itself, but instead it was the composition of the intake manifold gasket, which has been replaced with a more resilient gasket material in all late model cars, older than 2001. The only time Dexcool causes issues in cars later than 2001 is when air is introduced into the coolant chambers within the engine and along with the acidic component of the coolant and the air, corrosion of some gaskets can occur. The part nobody tells you is that allowing air into the coolant chambers will cause oxidation and some sensor failures with ANY COOLANT, NOT JUST DEXCOOL. If you maintain your coolant on regular basis, change out and flush every couple of years or so, keep your coolant topped off and never allow leaks to continue for long periods of time which allow air into the system, never run coolant low enough to allow air into your system and ALWAYS BURP the air out of your entire coolant system when changing your coolant, the Dexcool will serve cars that require Dexcool longer and more effectively than cars that do not recommend Dexcool. You're perpetuating a rumor that no longer applies, except under certain conditions, like owner negligence, not maintaining the coolant system properly and blaming it on Dexcool. My 2007 Hummer H2 has had the same Dexcool, listed as REQUIRED in the manual for 12 years/140,000 miles, has NEVER been changed, the truck has NEVER run hot and there are no signs of issues. I am changing the Dexcool and flushing my entire system tomorrow (7/2/2020) and will be refilling the system again with Dexcool. I anticipate if the truck performs as it has the past 12 years, it just might out live me. If you don't want to use Dexcool, then don't, but spreading false rumors based on decades old information is disingenuous. The problem is not Dexcool, the problem is Dexcool and AIR in your water system. Burp your water chambers properly and Dexcool is, well... COOL!
