This is exactly what I did and was shocked to see how much sediment came from the lines. It’s a wonder I had any water flow at all. For those who were critical of this video - I can testify that this solved my problem. Thanks for the video!
@michaelsyoutubechannel5857 Жыл бұрын
Very informative video. A clogged aerator is the best case scenario. In my case the sediment had built up in the actual shutoff valve and flushing it would not have been sufficient. It had to be removed and replaced. This also let me clean out the copper pipe near the valve which also had sediment. Took the opportunity to replace both water lines as well. Good to know this is a common issue.

nice job explaining to the non plumbers...but you should never put the aerator back on before clearing supply lines. Clearing or removing the supply lines can cause sediment to break free. Clear your lines and reattach, then run some water through the faucet without the aerator until clean flow. Then put the aerator back on.

Since I had no basin wrench available I disconnected the hotwater supply line at the shut off valve after turning water valve off. I let cold water run like I was mixing at the faucet, 20 seconds later I shut the water to the cold water faucet off, checked bucket saw sediment that had come out with the back flushing of the hot water line. Put everything back together and water pressure is great on both sides. I am 83 and a great grandma and could do it so can you. Thanks Signature .

@bobbyj64106 жыл бұрын
You're supposed to remove the aerator again before running the water if you disconnected the lines and flushed them, or else the sediment will go right back to your aerator.
@Joseph-iw7su8 жыл бұрын
You're not flushing water lines.....you're flushing the fixture. Most problems are in the pipes going to the fixtures.

🟠 HERE IS ANOTHER FIX: First shut off the main water source, then run a garden hose from the neighbors house or completely separate water source. Attach the garden hose to the the clogged water fixture. There are adapters available at home depot if you dont have a perfect fit. Open all connected faucets and/or fixtures, and also remove the GPM flow-restrictiors from these plumbing fixtures which will allow and backwash the collected sediment/clog out the other way through these fixtures. Run hot water through the garden hose if possible, hot water can potentially loosen up sediment and clogs better. Alternating from cold to hot in 5-10 minute intervals can also expand and contract the pipes loosening clogs/sediment up as well.

@bobbyj64106 жыл бұрын

The house is in Costa Rica and the lines have a huge amount of calcium buildup in them. The water runs and it a dirty white color. I have tried all these things but I think I need to fill the lines with vinegar and soda and then flush them out. Is there a video instruction on how to do that? Thank you.

I have done this and I still have low water flow, this is in my kitchen. I have good water flow in both baths and wash room. What do you suggest I do? I have the gray pipe in my home.
@SignatureHardware-SH9 жыл бұрын
+Stan Wilson People do encounter this issue from time to time. Sometimes the build-up of sediment can be somewhere between the stop valve and the cartridge of the faucet. We will need to go through each component connected to the faucet to find the blockage. It could be a loose washer in a stop valve, debris blocking the inlet/outlet of the cartridge, or something in the supply lines. It would be helpful if we knew the specific faucet you are dealing with. Please give us a call at 866.855.2284. @SignatureHardware-SH9 жыл бұрын
Without looking at the pipe firsthand it is hard to say. If you have addressed all possibilities with the faucet then you have to start considering the water flow into the faucet. The next thing to consider would be the valve stops.

That's all well & good but doesn't address the underlying cause. I sometimes have to clean the aerator on my kitchen sink several times in a single wash-up session, and have had to remove screens in dishwasher and clothes washer supply lines that were continually getting clogged with the same green sediment. Green to me suggests copper somehow/somewhere, but how to diagnose and solve for good, not just for a minute, is the real issue. BTW, I'm in an apartment building, we don't have our own water heater in our unit so i can't just go there.
