You would have to put power to the car using jumper cables or a portable jump pack. Not sure if you can move the selector on the transmission itself.

How about a “shift system fault”? The dial is not stuck on P. It will turn to R, N, or D but clicks back to P and throws the code “shift system fault”.

My 2018 Ram has a manual shift lever with a cable that’s located below the headlight switch if there’s no power but how do you do this on this car if your battery is dead or if there’s an electrical problem killing power to the electronic shifter knob?

That lever will override the transmission and put it into neutral wether the vehicle has power or no power.

@@TowMan127 ah ok, that’s kinda what I was figuring. You’d think Ford would have made it to where you can manually shift it into neutral but I guess if it’s just on a front wheel drive car, you’d just pick the car up from the front wheels and not even worry about it.

Love your vids! Had an Edge today and found there is a cable pull to disengage the trans and steering lock under the dash. There's a small cover with a Phillips screw holding it on, and the orange pull strap is hidden under. However, I could not get the parking brake to disengage. It would turn off for a second, then re-engage. No clue why. I had the key, but hole in the oil pan so accessory mode only. And the button in the console would not work at all. I did notice that the one in this vid has an L in the middle of the shifter, mine had an S. Anyone know the difference?

That’s the videos health and thank you for the support! I’m not sure about the difference but I do know about the little cover that you have to remove the Phillips screw on the Ford edge. The fucking break can be annoying at times sometimes you have to put the seatbelt on because of the electronic shifter. There’s a sensor that activates the parking brake when the door is open to prevent the car from rolling.

I am a flatbed tow truck driver. And I wonder if this works if there's no power to the car... As I'm sure you are aware, every once in awhile I come across a nice new car with some weird electrical issue where even a jump pack won't help.

Unfortunately no. You can put a jump pack on it for power. Unfortunately these don’t have the pull cable for an override

Mine was doing the same thing, but would not go into neutral. As I was looking at the fuse box I noticed my bushings came off and my shifter cable was not connected. Maybe this will help someone.

Eric Tyler, newer fords are notorious for shift linkage bushing failure. It's a simple 5 minute repair. And the part from Ford is CHEAP. 1-3 bucks depending on dealer. I have fixed quite a few for my tow customers and they're always grateful because they know they'd be paying a ton at the dealership or mechanic.

No idea on cost of fixing. Sometimes you have to hold the button and do it more than once or put the drivers seatbelt on and try it. They’re tricky.
