He’s contracting his lats and teres muscles to activate the chest. I discovered this by accident some time ago while doing close grip bench, which is generally for triceps. It’s easy to do on close grip bench as your elbows are tight to your sides at the bottom, in a similar fashion to a bent over row at the top of the movement.

Trying this out tomorrow. Will update on how it felt. EDIT: did this at the end of my legs and chest workout today. I first thought "I'll just incorporate these techniques into my incline dumbbell bench today but stay at the same weight (45's for 3 sets of 10-12)". Yeah, no. You NEED to go lighter, as he says in the video. I went from 15 to 25's throughout 3 sets of 10-12. The armpit tension really helped activate my chest and was one technique I did incorporate into my incline dumbbell bench as I tend to be shoulder dominant and need all the help I can get. The "bring your biceps together" cue was also helpful in helping me use my chest to do the work. I highly enjoyed this exercise (and also hated it because it was hard work with light weights!) and will regularly include it in my training.
@TheSledgeer7 жыл бұрын
Jeff, Just wanted to say thanks. I've been throwing hundreds of reps with moderate to heavy weights at my chest every week and the only thing that ever gets a good workout is my shoulders. Thanks for giving people such fantastic content on a regular basis. Stay strong my friend.

hey jeff u never really mentioned specifically about training frequency. i wanna hear your view on this matter.💪💪💪. there has been a alot about 2x training frequency of each muscle and how bro splits are not optimal. pls 💪 💪 👌
@haltorne66477 жыл бұрын
Chirag Patel dude just do what works for you, no one can tell you whats best for frequency. science shows rest days are important but science also shows thats working out everyday is fine (ie. the military training you do every muscle, everyday, for months). just experiment and find which split gives you the best results, then once you see a plateau in those results you clearly need to change your split to shock the body, so redo your experimentation. its not that hard, stop begging for a topic that can be answered by yourself. its just a cop out to not work hard. the split doesnt fucking matter if you go in everyday w the mindset youre there to put your ego aside and work hard. eat healthy and work hard and your body will see gains. simple.
@Tecnicasdeguitarra7 жыл бұрын

@haltorne66477 жыл бұрын
Strings N' Passion no he doesnt talk about it bc its literally not something you can preassign to everyone in the world, jeff nippard does science videos on working out, go follow him and decide for youself what you think will work for you
@Tecnicasdeguitarra7 жыл бұрын
imDealga yeah I know I honestly don't care about it too much as you said is really about listening to your own body bc if you are not following the proper diet and rest you could really easily fall into over training. I just thought that he might want to keep some details to his programs that he sells bc the are not customized. You are right Jeff nippard has a great aproach from the scientific aspect of it.

This is the kind of training older bodybuilders with worn out joints incorporate every day, because heavy compound movements are no longer the staple of mass building. You have to find new ways to get that mind muscle connection and still fry the crap out of a muscle group without heavy weights, this is one way! I have a variation with an incline bench and (low)cable crossovers that destroy the inner and upper pecs. Awesome video! Thanks Jeff! Btw: you look fabulous shredded up with the thin skin ad vascularity going on for the summer !

Great tip to focus on. Think about tightening the armpits and then bringing biceps together. Great video A+

I think the key take away from this video right off the bat is trying to drive the biceps together like he says. I'm a beginner lifter and always trying to focus on having a good amount of weight paired with good form and activation and the bicep tip makes perfect sense.

Hey Jeff just wanted to let you know that you are a very big inspiration to me. I am 24 years old and I have 2 daughters. I have been out of shape for most of my life. I have been watching your videos since day one. My work schedule is crazy but I make no excuses. I have learned to adapt and fit my busy schedule around my training. I really want to purchase your training videos on Athleanx but just can't afford it right now so everyday I hope to see or learn a new exercise from your videos that I can work into my training. I just did your 7 minute ab exercise and my abs are on fire. It's sad to say but I hardly ever train my abs which is why I am starting today at the bottom of my mountain and working my way to the top one step at a time. I took your advise and I really thought hard about why I am doing this. I am training for myself and my children. I am not setting a goal for myself. I am creating a healthy lifestyle for myself. I just have one question for you and I really hope you can answer it. I watched your video on cardio killing gains but I just want to know when should I fit cardio into my training when I am trying to bulk up? I train 3 tims a week and at the end of every session I do 30 minutes of cardio? Should I stop doing that If I want to bulk up and see results or should I keep doing that So I can loose the weight in my stomach and start seeing my abs? Thanks again.

I would keep the cardio for now, my man. Work on building your base and losing weight. 3x30 minutes of cardio is not going to kill your gains. My two cents.

Great demonstration and explanation for focusing on your pectorals development using the bringing of your biceps together when pressing with light weights. He shows his knowledge of anatomy to get the best results. Thank you.

these videos are always helpful, not to have you rethink training all together, but just that extra little insight that might give you that extra burn, and thats what we want

Spot on Jeff. I always say to young (and sometimes not so young) weight trainers, 'think not what you can do for the weight, but what the weight can do for you'.

Thanks, been waiting months and months to start benching heavvy again but still not ready after an Acromian Clavical tear...my chest is shriveling up and need something light to keep up the aesthetics. I'll be doing this low weight at high intensity!! Perfect!
