How to Get a Job With No Experience

There's a difference between qualifications and experience. So, I'm going to ask you, "Are you qualified for this job or are you not qualified?" and then I'm going to ask you, "Are you experienced or do you not have experience?" So, what's the difference between experience and qualifications? That's a good question.
Getting a job with no experience is not hard. Experience means that you have the raw skills to do the job. That means you've done something like this before and you can do it again for somebody else and a good example is managing people or taking care of customers or whatever it is. Let's say you managed people in one industry and now you're trying to get a job in a completely different industry. You have experience managing people; that's a transferable skill. So, you can transfer that skill from one job or one industry to another.

The thing I painfully realized from the last recession is employers want to know you are capable of doing the work. So when I had no experience it was hard getting a job after college. What I did is I went to several small business owners and I offered to work for free. I told them even if a job became available I still wouldn't want money. I made a deal with them and said that if I did the job well then they could pay me back by serving as a reference for my future job applications. I now work as a foreign officer with the government and the United Nations. Sometimes we need to take one step back just to take 2 or 3 more forward.

Being a college grad right before the great recession still hurts. HR generalist and managers generalise too much and to don't see transferable skills from various degrees. Yet high school students fresh out of high school are landing jobs before college. I ask during the interview how they (managers, hr) people how they got to where they are today. Because someone gave them a chance. Recession grads are still playing catch up.

Number 2 and 3 is totally true! I actually made a video on my channel talking about this topic, but the 1 other tip I'd add is how important it can be to network with others, letting them know you're looking for a job, or even to simply build the connection, to learn about the job you're looking for. If you're new to the industry, you might likely not even be totally sure if it'll a job you'll really enjoy, so networking helps you not only reach out to others, but on your own side learn about the different job opportunities and what it'd really be like to work there.

I must say pretty impressive video as you have touched a crucial point where you said the internet is there learn and read educate yourself because what most person's don't understand is a person might have a PhD and you might have only your brain with a lot of knowledge plus skills and your wondering how am I going to get the job. But guess what if you go into the interview and sell yourself the right way make it even worse the skills and knowledge you have is just what the employer is looking. Bam! U have gonna the job over someone who as a PhD just look into yourself now and say yes its possible don't underestimate yourself about lord I don't have the money to further my studies get the skills and if you get the job save the money and up lift yourself. Don't make no one stop you...The sky is the limit, not someone who is saying you cannot do it. Great vid!!!

Many of today's youth are presented with few 'skilled' job opportunities, then reality hits home, not having the first clue what next, when the college career plan 'A' failed to materialise. Many resort to holding down two or more jobs, usually on minimum wage slaving for the fast-food industry, or equally menial dead-end jobs, existing like 'debt-slaves' in an almost impossible state, in order to repay bills and college debts,. A predicament made considerably worse for those less fortunate who lacked either a proper education, nor basic qualifications upon leaving education.

Go to career fairs at Universities in your surrounding area. They're at universities because they're looking to hire people with little to none experience. It doesn't matter how old you are just go, I worked for an IT SAP partner company where I had to represent them at career fairs at community colleges. People in their 30s with Oil and Gas experience would still show up near the end of the career fairs to put their resumes on top.

I wouldn't give up, but you might not have the specific experience that they are looking for. It also may be how you worded your resume that doesn't convey exactly what you have done in your previous job. Have you looked in the Resume Masterpiece (www.jobinterviewtools.com/resume/) for help? All my best advice on writing resumes is in there. That would be the best place to start, and then if you had follow-up questions from there, just email me. Best Regards, Don

I was a teller when I was 18, after my first job as a cashier at Blockbuster. My mom used to work with the manager, I guess that helped. But seriously tellers don't get paid much. If you've been a manager why not go for something better? I make more hourly as a retail sales associate than I did as a teller, the only positive was the banking hours. Math skills and being comfortable handling large amounts of cash and work under pressure is very important so play that up on your resume and during the interview. The turnover isn't as high as in retail, so it will take much longer also. I had to interview at about 6 banks to get 1 offer.

That's awesome! Sometimes if you are selected for the job, during the negotiation phase, you can work with them to set time to finish your bachelors degree, if it's something they truly require.

I was working in a factory and retail store for a bit in my summer. I was not happy working in those jobs. I realized that I wanted to work in a setting somewhat-related to my field. I'm college sophomore. I tried going to my university's career office to look for an entry level job that is not retail, but there has not been much luck for me. I guess I will be stuck with retail.

I have an Associate's degree and I still work in retail. Some of my coworkers have Bachelor's degrees, some just high school. Retail is always there to keep us all poor until they replace us with automation.

How do get the interview if it is an online application? Long story short, I dropped out of college my last semester. In college, I became depressed and mad at the world because I was forced to take classes I was not interested in and taking classes I don't need. The only classes I enjoyed were chemistry labs, microbiology labs, basically the science courses with labs. I am looking for a lab job but a lot of these jobs want a degree, which I do not have. Should I go back to all my college syllabus' and gather techniques I used for these classes that are required for lab jobs and put on cover letter? Please help!!

As a recent high school graduate. My only experience is volunteer firefighting, which is pretty niche. Kind of hard to transfer fighting fire and responding to emergency calls to any other job than one in the field of first response. My dilemma is that I need to get a job while I wait for my fire department to begin hiring permanent employees.

Basically go in there and sell yourself without sounding boastful. I don’t know why I always get so nervous when I go into an interview. I should look at it as me also interviewing them because I feel I’d be an asset to their company. If I don’t believe I am, how will they ever believe in me?? I have no experience in an office setting, as I have always done labor type work, but my body is getting to that point where I need a different type of work. So I am starting fresh trying to get someone to just give me one shot! I am punctual, a perfectionist, and can talk to anyone. I am a hard worker. I care about the work I do, no matter what it is. I’m praying someone gives me a chance to prove myself because I am only 43, so I plan on being in the workforce for another 27 yrs or so God willing. 😊

I had no relevant Engineering experience and found a job 8 months after graduation, only to get fired after 90 days for failing my PIP. I’ve been applying for 3 months, but no luck even after following up. Starting to think that putting that job on my resume is killing me. If I don’t include it, there’d be a 16 month gap from when I graduated. Lose lose situation.

See when you live in an area where every barely decent paying job within a 50 mile radius every direction sets the qualifications to be: bachelors degree required, you’ll be Spongebob Jr. flipping patties until you’re old and gray and if you’re lucky enough then you’ll move up in life to become mr.krabs until the day you croak.

That's all these employers care about is how much experience you have. You can be as smart as Stephen Hawking with ten college degree's , but even all of that means nothing to an employer unless you have YEARS OF EXPERIENCE for the position. You need experience to get a job even though you need the job to get the experience. Employer's these days think they will get a stronger better work force by requiring experience for every position no matter if it is a skilled position, or an unskilled position. All they are doing is frustrating the candidates and themselves too. Here is a suggestion for them …………. GIVE PEOPLE A FAIR LEGITIMATE CHANCE,SEE THEM FOR THEIR GOOD QUALITIES,AND TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT!!!!!! Maybe then they will get the kind of workforce they want!

@@DonGeorgevich No, you are missing the point. Most employers will not even respond to an applicants resume unless they have a lot of experience to begin with. There are a lot of people who are excited and want to grow with their company. However, if an applicant can't even get an interview with the nit picky employer that wants experience only then they can't even show their enthusiasm.
