If you're still in high school, on the school holidays go to IT places, computer shops, wherever, and do unpaid work experience. You'll learn some stuff and get a feel for how these places are to work in, but more importantly you can get a reference and can put on your CV that you've worked part time at this place, which puts you above the rest. Just the fact that you are willing to learn and get experience without getting paid means you're not lazy, you plan for the future etc. This is how I got my first job in IT with no degree or certifications.

As someone who worked in HR before making the hop to IT, if you seem like a good person with a good head on your shoulders, that's 90% of the game. Unless you work some ultra-rare field like Nuclear Missile Repair or something, there's always someone qualified. There isn't always someone who'd make a good fit for a company.

@@ashleycbla Many people have A+. That's not ahead, it's average. What people *don't* have is experience, or pro certs. He has 3 years of exp and still nothing. He could either get more certs or move to a different city.
@ashleycbla
@ashleycbla 3 жыл бұрын
Mike P I’m speaking based off of my experience. I worked at an help desk and all they required was an A+ with no IT experience at the minimum. Some people were given the opportunity to earn the A+ within a certain time frame, but during training we were told if we came in with an A+ we were already ahead of many people who did not have any certification and there were many who were hired without one. After a certain time frame if they still had no cert then they were fired. So when I say he’s ahead that’s what I mean. A+ is entry level and an entry level IT job is help desk. So when he says that he has A+ and still no job logically to me it seems he may want to work on his interview skills or if he hasn’t already...start applying for entry level IT jobs like help desk.

And i worked for four month for 1600 euro then 1800 euro for one year . Later I moved an other company where I was treated like an engineer with a reasonable salary. I got hired at my college as a student IT Field technician. Only experience I had was a 2 month internship as a technical assistant at a research company during my sophomore year in high school. I also told them that I have experience building and trouble shooting computers.

No degree no certs starting out, level 2 helpdesk at a point of sale company. Then got hired at an MSP, did my CCENT, taking the CCNA in under 2 weeks. I learn extremely fast and knew how to sell myself. Build a home lab its invaluable! And yea customer services skills are so important. Have to have those soft skillz

I have APD, even when I have the work experience from my internship, almost 10 years in customer service, honor roll and my degrees, no certs... I get a fewof the interview by still no job. I'm still told... not enough related work experience... I also get spam calls of companies that want to hire me... ask if I'm willing to move to another country or ask for a lot of my personal information.

Was looking into changing jobs to IT myself because I've been doing freelance troubleshooting and hardware setup for the last ten years. Finally found something basic and local, entry level that seems to be about maintaining mostly on site systems. Then I hit the requirements section... again, this is ENTRY LEVEL HELP DESK, arguably the lowest rung on the IT ladder. Required Education Associate Degree or equivalent experience. Required Experience 3-5 years of relevant experience. A+ certification or equivalent experience at the minimum. Prefer candidates with certifications including: Network+, Security+, MCITP, and/or MCSE/MCSA certification Excellent customer service and organizational skills required to support executives, department heads, supervisors, administrative personnel, engineers and staff. Moderate understanding of desktop software/hardware including printer hardware, and the subsequent implementation, support, and repair of all. Moderate understanding of desktop Operating Systems from Microsoft. Moderate understanding of desktop imaging technologies such as WDS. Moderate understanding of networking protocols, topology, and troubleshooting. Moderate understanding of technology such as Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, LDAP, and ActiveSync. Moderate understanding of mobile technologies and their implementation in a corporate environment. Experience with GoGlobal, and Citrix XenApp would be beneficial. Hyper-V and vSphere experience a plus Must be able to work in a team environment and/or independently and have strong interpersonal skills. Must also have sufficient writing skills to produce policy and procedures in a clear and concise manner. Special Requirements Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds and can move desktop hardware. Employee must have reliable transportation to and from work. After hours and holiday work may be required depending on work volume, outages, and emergency situations. This will include at least one day on the weekends as part of the regular schedule each week. Ability to qualify for a government SECRET security clearance What the flying fuck?

keep searching :) not all of those job posts are like that (many are, though, but dont get discouraged). As an employer, I would say these guys want a desperate pro who would do 100500 things for a lower pay (because the position says "entry level"...). Just a hack for employers to pay less. A lame tactics, but it works, unfortunately.

Best advice for any job...NETWORK. Ask your friends, your uncle, cousin, start in the cafeteria or mailroom and talk to people daily! Get into meet up groups or even volunteer. Make sure you get seen. Let people know your looking and trust me some people will help and spread your name to the right people

Question: How would you advise autistic adults in getting IT work? My husband has high functioning autism. He has a BS in IT programming (2014), but he's still underemployed; working for pizza delivery (since 2011). He has programmed a retro style pc game a couple years ago. He let me play it & I found it quite fun! Unfortunately, it's not completely finished yet. He's in need of an IT job, but he can never get past the interview. I worry that the interviewers aren't giving him a chance due to how they perceive him.
@cipher3966
@cipher3966 Жыл бұрын
I really think this is where we need to do something about the bias in hiring. There are programs that claim to teach people with autism how to perform better in interviews but I think this is unfair. If they have the skills they should have a chance at the job. Why teach them to be "normal" and not teach the hirers to be better judges of skill? which is their job People who have lows skills get jobs and people with high skills miss out. This is the fault of the hirers only, not the applicants

1 year into my job with nothing and all I had was building my PC originally he was teaching me but after 3 days he hired me how? I went home and consumed everything IT and understand it. note I also in worked crazy hours but I did no questions asked and now I'm a bigger part of his company than I have ever imagined.

An internal IT job came open where I work and I was about to pass on applying because I though I was not qualified until I talked to a friend of my whose actually in the IT department and he told me I would be good for the job and if I get hired they would train me anyway and already being into computers and stuff I shouldn't have no problem, and he said don't sell yourself short on the application because the questions are broad so if asked do you have any experience in IT, even if you ever helped someone with a computer issue I could honestly say, Yes I have IT experience, because the question never asked on the job IT experience, so I was able to use what I've done in my personal life as experience, and suprisingly I just got contacted today for a interview
