I love helping people with a passion and working alone is fine once in a while but with a great team of people is awesome. I have loads of customer service experience. I love learning stuff about tech! Just listening to this video, I see my self more in IT. I took cosmetology class being a artist and while I was talking with my teacher she came out and said I could see you more involved in IT work, why I can't remember how the conversation started for her to say that but eventually I drop the class! Now that I watch this video, WOW I can see my self doing this line of work and it is amazing how she had the foresight to see that in me!

I appreciate this video more than you know. I feel so lost when it comes to where I want to end up. Enrolled in school and they’ve basically told me I have 2 classes I can take that will overlap with most of the career paths, and after that I’ve basically been told I need to decide what my major is. It’s overwhelming because I keep seeing these videos where people get 2 years into a path and decide they don’t like it, and I don’t want that to happen. It seems asinine for me to have to pick a major or a specialization so soon before I even learned the ins and outs of the jobs. I’m terrified to make the wrong choice.

Great video. Really appreciate all the information. I spent the last 2 decades in the Coast Guard working on boats. I just retired and I no longer want to turn a wrench for a living. I’ve always been really interested in IT but other then writing reports ( Microsoft etc) I’m not very good with computers. I think I’m gonna enroll in a 2 year degree at the local community college. My question is do you think this is something that anyone with the right effort and schooling can learn ( even later in life)? I ask because everyone I know that’s ever done IT work have been hackers, coders, computer guys since they could walk. Thanks again for the great video. I’ll check out the sight.

Hey Johnny Cash, I love your music, especially that cover of Nine Inch Nails - Hurt - That is honestly the best cover song I've ever heard in my life...I thought you were dead though? All kidding aside! I'm glad you found this video useful! Sounds like you have a good path set ahead of you. As far as the $15,000 that sounds like a lot of money to me. You can join Pluralsight, ITProTV, Skillsoft or CBT Nuggets for less than $1,000 a year...some of them you can get their yearly price around $500 or less. Then the certification costs are around $300 a pop. So you could save yourself a ton of money by doing it that way. However if you feel more comfortable being in a classroom setting I completely understand! I hope this helps! Good luck!

And see if I learn and develop a better understanding of the field and what a really want to do. Thanks for your videos and also, I want to ask you something, is a way to get certifications but free or almost free like, very cheap? Are they worth it? Thanks 🙏🏻

I can vouch for Pluralsight being great but it can be quite pricey and I think most schools and public libraries give access to Lynda for free. Pluralsight recently took up Code School which was an amazing site to learn all sorts of programming (especially for beginners) but in fun ways. I haven't seen what it has become on Pluralsight but I imagine it's still just as good.

Hi Zach, I'm pretty much in the same boat as that lady who asked where to start. I've seen quite a bit of your material on here, and noticed that you seem to be a heavy advocate for ITprotv in most of your other videos, but in this one you highlighted Pluralsight. I'm kind of older to be just getting into the IT field, and for that reason I'll be targeting certifications, and pick up college as a mid game event, after I've been in the field a while and have a good standing. Anyway, I've been fairly persuaded, by you and some lengthy online reasearch, to use ITproTV as my main study guide. I'll be getting their premium package because I really love the idea of hands on labs, but it is a little expensive, though, I should be able to wing on a monthly basis; however, should I reconsider to a less expensive Pluralsight? Also, thank you for your work. Seeing some of your videos really put my header in the way of an IT career.

Hey Chris! Thank you for leaving this comment and watching the channel as well as doing your due diligence! The companies I promote are the ones that I believe in and have vetted personally. I'm a huge believer of using multiple resources to study from. I don't mean you have to sign up for a multitude of things simultaneously but switching things up and utilizing different teaching styles can be helpful. With that said, sometimes I can't promote multiple resources in one video. This doesn't mean that one is better than another. You may find that you will enjoy ITPro.tv more and that's great! I feel like it's my responsibility to not only share the most informative knowledge about this field as I can, but also share the most valuable resources that you can learn from as well. I put in a lot of work to make sure that the companies I talk about are going to be something that you my viewer are going to find value from. The last thing I want to do is talk about a crap product and you come back upset with me because I reccomend that. That will only tarnish my reputation and that is not worh it to me. I'm here to help people first and foremost. The fact that I get sponsored from these types of companies will always fall further down the line in order of importance. I apologize for the lengthy response, however I want to be sure everyone understands where I am coming from. To give you the best answer to your question though, they both offer free trials. Utilize those to see which you enjoy the most.

I’m a senior in college majoring in Information technology. The IT degree is in the college of business at my school so I’ve taken 99% business like courses (accounting, finance , project management etc). I’ve literally taken only 3 classes that actually let me get “technical” experience. I’m studying for my A+ certification right now. I hope to have it before I graduate in May. I just really wanna get real technical experience. It just seems like even for the entry level help desk jobs they don’t wanna hire me because I have literally no experience. I’ve been on 3 interviews with no success. I really sometimes think I maybe majored in the wrong thing ☹️

I got an entry level IT support job with no experience, no degree and no certs. With a felony conviction for marijuana as well. You can do it dude. I submitted over 100 applications. Just make it your life’s goal for this period of time to make this first job happen. As people in IT always say the hardest job to get is the first one. Best of luck to you!

I’ve done research if you need a college degree to get into IT. I’ve read on the CompTIA website that it’s a myth that you need a college degree to get an entry level job in IT. A family friend who works in IT told me the same thing and that certifications and experience run the IT world. On the other hand, I’ve searched on google jobs, IT careers, and I want to be able to work at home. 95% of the job postings required or preferred a bachelors degree in computer science or related. I’ve been trying to look for someone who works in IT to get advice from. I have 19 credits left to finish my associates degree and I’ve been constantly debating if I want to finish the degree and then pursue a bachelors to look good on my resume to put on a job website so that companies who are hiring will want to reach out to me for having degrees plus certifications. Nearly everyone I know tells me to get a degree because it can’t hurt and that’s what today’s world has come to. I’d like to start a career early, but I have not shadowed anyone in IT so I don’t even know if it would be something I would like to do. I’m not too big of a big fan of college overall, but I don’t really know what to do. What kind of advice do you have for me? Will a degree help me to look good for other companies?

This channel is GREAT it brings things down to earth! Question though, I'm 29, working in the insurance industry making 50k a year and I want to get into Network Admin...is it an unrealistic goal to want to get enough certifications to skip the help desk thing and jump into something at least on a network tech or Jr. Network Admin role paying at least the same or close to what I'm making now?

I know your comment is 3yrs old but how’s it going now? Did you ever make the jump? I’m kinda in the same situation you were talking about. I don’t want to take a huge pay cut just to get into IT.

@@Daniel_Scott89 your timing is so uncanny 😅😂 I've been studying SQL and JUST received a job offer for a Technical Consultant role paying $85k, I literally start March 28th and I'm pumped to be able to make a career transition with such solid pay! Sr level position in this role which I should strive for within 3-5 years starts around $120k/year as well, keep at it man!

Is hardware a good entry point and do you need to go to school for hardware? Also, the COMPTIA Cert programs, do you get taught the material and then take a test or is it just the test. I'm seeing some ads offering COMPTIA for $70. I know it's just the training, it's set worth it?
