Absolutely. Gloves are for getting dirt on, they may keep your hands clean but they will transfer contamination even more smoothly than hands. I worked in medical labs and would be so icked out during Covid when I’d go shopping and see people picking up produce with gloves and putting it back. The same gloves that are touching the trolley, their own coat, scratching themselves, tossing their hair… *shudder*

@@Yukiibera Unfortunately it does when you use gloves to protect yourself and aren’t trained in PPE and pathogen transfer. Normally People will be much more careful about touching things with their bare hands than with gloves. Where I live people are very courteous about not copiously touching fruit and veg, sure prod an avocado or 2 but everything doesn’t need to be mauled. However when people had nitrile gloves on they had the idea that they were protected and could touch anything, like they were invincible now! When you’re PPE trained you never touch your face, hair or anywhere else with a gloved hand. I’m used to dealing with blood labs, including known positives for viral load testing of Hepatitis, HIV etc. so seeing people touch their food with nitriles gave me an absolute ick.

@@EdieG1 the same people also reuse their gloves. like if we in a lab and depending on the task, one switches gloves multiple times throughout the day. we for example were not allowed to touch the tech stuff with gloves, bc of contamination, so we needed to remove the gloves, but u cant just put it back on if u had sweaty hands

This reminded me of the time I worked in a Pub Brewery and the health inspector came by to check the premises. He had a field day with the pub finding dirt under drip trays and the like. But when he looked at the Brewery he just stood in the middle and did a 360 and said this is cleaner than most hospitals, I'm done.

I actually prefer no gloves, because every time hands get anything on them people tend to wash it, meaning they do so frequently in bakeries/restaurants, but people do not change their gloves nearly as much.

I used to work in food, and the thing that haunted me most about one or two coworkers I had was when they said to me "you wash your hands too often". They worked in the dishwash, and I occasionally caught them moving from the dirty dish end to the clean end without washing hands. Unfortunately, management didn't fire them after the first couple of incidents, even when I as the health and safety rep found chemicals transferred to mislabeled containers, a major COSHH violation.

Reminds me of the elderly couple who lived down the street from my parents. We all practiced martial arts and they'd call the police every single time we were outside practicing. So much so that we were on a first name basis with the local police. They would basically just show up and watch our sparring matches. It was actually a little disappointing when they passed the law to fine people for false emergency calls. We stopped seeing our cop buddies after that.

That is a great response time to a call to the inspector. Feiends and I came down with food poisoning at a restaurant, and it took the health dept over two weeks to check out the many complaints. (This is in the USA) I'm glad the inspector banned that troublesome kook from the bakery!

I've worked for a short time in a *TRULY* *UNHYGIENIC* (and otherwise horrendously despicable) Bakery We talk about : -Roaches in the Production Area -Pets (Cats) walking through said Production Area -Flour and Dough Caked on the floor and basically everythere (+ forcing apprentices to get on their Knees to scrape off the stuff by hand) -no proper Cooling applyances anywhere - Sick workers where told they where just simulating despite clear symptoms like you know Vomiting or having open wounds ans threatened with Violence -Fryer oil not being Changed for several *YEARS* -and i guess many more things even i didn't know about It eludes me how that Shithole could have been Open for so long but thankfully it closed a few years ago ...but sadly *only* due to the Asshat of a Junior Boss having no wish to continue

In the United States there is only one place dogs aren't allowed even if they are service dogs. That is anywhere with an open deli/bakery. Open means anything not prepackaged, but prepared on hand. This is because disabilities allow for trained animals to assist you for your disability. They also require your disability not interfere with other disabilities, like dog allergies. Service animals are not always hypoallergenic, and being allowed indoors is already a possibly deadly inconvenience to allergy disabilities. Also, faking a service animal can get you up to 5 years in prison for abuse of a disabled person for taking advantage of a program you don't need because you feel like it. You're not allowed to ask if it's a service animal, but you are allowed to call the police. They have the person sign a form declaring it a service animal. If the APD finds you lied on that form, they are the ones who press charges. Well there are a few groups who can press charges but that's the main one

Ireland, UK and Europe and Guide Dogs for the blind are exempt. Otherwise you're discriminating against blind people. Pet allergies are irrelevant. If the dog is working it won't interact with other people. It's assumed anyone with allergies isn't likely to touch an animal nevermind be stupid enough to throw their arms around a dog. Thus there's no problem. Most cat and dog allergies are touch responses with hay-fever like outcomes. No touch equals no response.

This is partly incorrect. You may ask two questions regarding service animals in the USA. From the ADA website: "In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person’s disability."

When I owned my bakery we'd constantly get complaints like the ones shown here. My favourite, however, was when people would come in saying a cake they bought tasted bad and they'd like a refund. I'd ask to see the cake and they would bring out one piece. "So the cake was horrible tasting but you ate everything. but one piece?" They'd be shown the door and told never to return. We had this happen several times and it was usually the same people or someone from the family. Well known scam in bakeries. i've had it happen at several I've worked at, just trying to get a free cake.

Btw, I have read a response from a fast food restaurant why they are not wearing gloves. They said they made studies, and found out rubber gloves poses more risk. The employees needs to sanitize their hands frequently. While if they were wearing gloves, under the glove their hands can sweat (I experienced that too), which is also help bacteria grow, so if there is any accidental damage on the gloves then the risk of contamination is high.

@@Sakachi18 In order to clean a flattop, you'd have to stop all other orders, clear the flattop, kill the burners, scrub the flattop, scrape the oil and residues, and purge the oil tray (for consistent practice). Once that's done, you can finally start the vegetarian order. Takes about 30 minutes to clean and 10 minutes to reheat the range. Typically, the burger would be on the same range, but the area would be scraped of any residue/oils from other burgers. Some lemon juice would be applied to the area as well.
