No matter how cheap it may be, or convenient, the fact that NYC has no direct rail from JFK or LGA to Manhattan is shameful at best. When compared to other world cities, there is zero excuse for the MTA to not have built it already.

LOL! Venice does not have this, neither does Paris ( it's a similar system to NYC) Nor London, nor Lagos.

@@EMSpdx What are you talking about? Paris has multiple train stations, one even has a EuroStart connection that could bring you directly to London or obviously city center. I wouldn't call Venice a world city and its airport is fairly small (do you seriously compare NYC with Venice?!). And for London: Again, they have multiple options, especially for Heathrow. So starventure is right, why is nyc not capable of building a direct connection for their airports? Every bigger european airport has it as default: Heathrow, Amsterdam, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Madrid, Zurich, Paris, Milano, Berlin, Copenhagen, and dozens more.

The cheapest way to reach Manhattan is: go with airtrain (free ride) to Howard Beach without exiting . Buy at the vendor a weekly metrocard or a single ride metro card (it depends how long you stay in NY), then come back (for free) to Leffert Blvd, go down and take the Bus Q10 LTD (just pay attention at Leffert BLVD, because there are 2 exit and one of that is for Q3 bus), till last stop Kew Gardens, it takes about 25 minutes. Take Subway E or F and will be in Manhattan in about 1 hour from JFK .

You'll have all seen it before I'm sure, but for all of us getting the yellow cab from JFK to Times Square area it's going to be nigh on $100 anyway by the time you add the tip "for doing a job that doesn't require a tip" and all of the taxes. (This was ours arriving at our hotel 8.13pm: Fare $70 and this is the fixed fare rate; Extra's and airport fee $6.75 (as it's peak time after 4pm so it's $5 extra); tolls were $6.94; State surcharge 50 cents; Imp. surcharge $4; Cgn surcharge $2.50; for a total ride fare of $87.69 PLUS tip). Remember though, only tip the base fare! Do NOT tip the taxes. They are already an extra charge, so tip the base fare only. As we'd only just got there and our driver was a nice man, I just gave him a 'Benjamin' 👍🏻😄

When I first started visiting the city I was intimidated with the subway ect. So I started watching videos like yours , printed out maps ect. I decided to make my first subway ride simple from Penn Station to uptown with no transfers to help me gain confidence. After that it was easy ! Also, just use your phone to pay . If you are not sure, ask someone for help . The police as well as other New Yorkers are very friendly . Also a printed copy of the subway system trains are a good back up plan that give one some insurance . So just do you homework and resist using the taxis and Uber - they are expensive and take much more time as you are moving through the streets slowly - at least 5 times slower ! Trains are less than $3.00. I paid $30.00 to go from midtown to downtown and the time it took was 35 minutes vs 10 minutes !

Technically, you can get to Manhattan from LGA. People forget that for $2.90+ Transfer, you can take the M60+SBS to Harlem via 125th St.; & then the subway to {insert Tourist Trap attractions here}. From JFK, Q3, 10, or B15 to Bed-Stuy, Ozone Pk., or Jamaica-165th. Most likely, you’ll transfer to the (A) to where you need to be instead of paying an arm & a leg on Airtrain. For Newark, take NJT to Newark-Penn or New York-Penn. for Newark, you can then take PATH to either Downtown, or Midtown. It’s probably still $2.75, but if not, then $2.90+ NJT Fare.

I reiterate what Sarah said in this video regarding Long Island Raid Road service into Manhattan from JFK as opposed to the subway (the E train). Avoid at all costs the E train into Manhattan. It is filled with homeless, assorted mentally ill, and on nights and especially weekends, is subject to not running or delays do to never ending track work. The Long Island Rail Road, LIRR, is well worth the few extra nominal dollars in order to not be subjected to the previously mentioned. As an added note, you have your choice whether to go into Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal, which is great for people staying more east in midtown around 42nd St and Park Ave. Take the Airtrain to Jamaica station, get off, walk about 200 feet to the LIRR tracks and just buy a ticket at the machine. Escalators or elevators will take you right down to your track.
@erik_griswold Жыл бұрын
There are dedicated LIRR TVMs before the AirTrain exit faregates which will sell you a combo AirTrain fare and LIRR ticket (on a MetroCard). The line is usually shorter at these TVMs since everyone else is buying one at the NYC Subway TVMs. Just make sure the LIRR conductor returns the MetroCard to you so you can reload it and use it later in your trip.

For foreign tourists, I agree that in the evenings, it is not worth the trouble to save a few dollars to take unfamiliar long bus and subway routes carrying many large pieces of luggage and dealing with beggars, drunks, drug addicts and homeless people hanging out on the bus stops and subway trains.
@EMSpdx Жыл бұрын
One tip for JFK: If the Train Time app is not working for you, just go to Jamaica Station and hop on the LIRR anyways. The conductor can sell you a ticket! They are really nice and understand that you are new in town! Weirdly, there was a hiccup in the Airtrain system so it wound up being free late in the afternoon today. Also: 1) The UN is in session and the President is there, so expect CRAZY traffic in midtown with a very heavy police presence if you are coming right now. 2) Havinga. car service is great if you are in a group or family!

@jasonpsapp17 Yes, up to and including 4 persons can use a single 10 ride pass at a time. It expires 30 days after you use it the first time. If you use the one card for 3 persons both ways, for a total use of 6, that works out to $4.17/person... half the normal cost of $8.25/person. There will still be 4 unused rides. I usually hand the card to an airport staff member or gate agent so they can use the remainder of rides.

It depends on how large. Private busses (NJ Transit is public transport) like the airport shuttles will have luggage storage at the bottom, accessible from outside, so you won't be carrying that with you to your seat. Great video! Two questions. First, is there a fee to ride the Air Train to the rideshare pick up spot? Or do you only pay if you’re going further? Second, can you use contactless payment for the buses?

You only pay for the AirTrain when you exit at the Jamaica station You could ride it in a circle and never leave for free 😂

can we pay by Omny pay for the Air Train at JFK? does it make sense to buy a metro card just for the Air Train as I intend to use Omny for the subway rides during my time in the city?

The bus out of Newark will suck, since you will get stuck in the tunnel. Take airtrain to nj transit.

Hi Sarah, loving your content and currently binge watching, just a (maybe stupid) question please with a family of 3 with only 1 Apple Pay can I swipe it 3 times to let us all through or do I need 1 Apple Pay and 2 metro cards please?

You can use the same card or device for up to 4 people at once, however the fare cap will only apply to the first tap each time. Definitely not a stupid question!

Hi, how to sigh up in Revel or Lyft with my local home number?

Next time I’m using public transportation to Manhattan. Lyft was expensive and traffic was insane worst than home traffic 😅 Clear and understandable video ❤

Another tip: don't buy the airtrain ticket directly when you get off, sometimes the gates are open so the airtrain is free. I had on both times I used the airtrain. Don't know the reason behind this and on what times you can get trough them without paying but keep it in mind it could be open (free) for you also

What would you recommend for a party of 6 arriving at LGA about MIDNIGHT headed to the Penn Station area?
