5 for 5 I've been welcomed by Chairs of drama at different schools to discuss their programs. It doesn't hurt to email and ask, and most often they are very kind, even if they have no time to meet with you.

Thanks for your kind words. I'm sure you know, but just to remind you that it works everywhere, the 'trick' is to keep active doing ANYTHING that helps one's Acting, as it's not just the way to get 'better' which even big stars are always attempting, but we meet people who may help us that way, and make serious friends. So, - best! John

Thanks for kind words. Find a book, a theatre, or a video class, when you have time and find a part which SUITS you. All I can say. Best, John.

@@NewYorkActingCoach Are there any books or classes in particular that you might recommend, based on criteria that you would ascribe to ones that are considered "good"?
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
All actors need to learn different things, so go to a store or website and examine books about Acting AND what each contains, THEN choose, and read plays and screenplays til you find some you LIKE, but mainly go to classes, or if you are really stuck try a session with me , but a class may be best as you'll work with others of your own age. But I don't know you . . . so I can't say more. John.

Hello John, I am not really an actor by profession, although I once aspired to be. I uses to watch your videos for improving my English and to pick up the native British accent. It's been lovely listening to you. I've always had a rather silly question I wanted to ask you. Are you related to the Royal family of England by any chance?😂

Question, I want to do the "O for a muse of fire" soliloquy from Henry V as my classical monologue for RADA, would they accept that even though it's a solilquy instead of a monologue?
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
Soliloquies and monologues are the same. All that matters is that you have to do it well. You can't copy somebody else doing Henry V. You personally need that fire in you, you need to understand the lines fully , and lots of time in advance so that when you do the audition it has become EASY, and FUN. You have to work so hard to be sure of getting into RADA. That's it/ Work like hell on it with someone. John

When doing a soliloquy in front of an audience at the audition place for RADA, should you be looking and directing it to the audience, or should you direct it towards the wall and pretend in your mind that there’s an audience on the wall, which one?
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
Good question, because it can feel strange for the auditioners if you do the speech direct to them. If the speech is in fact talking to a friend or a psychiatrist then imagine that person is just in front of you or bit to one side, and if you're 'taping' the monologue don't look straight at the camera but just A LITTLE to one side of it. There are a few speeches where you might be talking to an audience, but do it over the heads of them. If you want a session then use the 'contact' page on my website. John

Well I'm not interested in acting, I'm only learning the British accent from here. Just subscribed.
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
You didn't ask, but it may help you if you see that what matters nowadays with an accent is that we speak clearly, whatever our accent is like, and that every sentence does not seem to be on the same 'note'. It is those two things which stop some politicians getting votes and churches being empty all over the world. We just need to be understood and not to sound boring! So practice as MUCH as you possibly can, and you may suddenly find the accent disappears as well. The actor Stellan Skarsgård does films in English and nobody thinks about where he's from, because he is clear and interesting. John

@@NewYorkActingCoach as per few observations, you love your subscribers and treat them as your friends. I wish more people were like you. As for being a politician or a priest, I'm just 18, so I don't know where life leads me. But sure it led me here for a reason, only thing I have to do is observe and learn what the reason is? Thank you, your majesty!
