I used to be really shy years ago, and was like this.. Now? I could care less.. or as they say. "When you truly don’t care what the fuck anyone thinks of you, you’ve reached a dangerously awesome level of freedom!"

This gave me an aha moment. Trying to put myself out there more, saying and career wise, and I keep sabotaging myself because I'm terrified what other people will say or think. But when you said that I'm chasing other people's approval, and I realized that's exactly the problem. I've been burned before by parents and friends and I'm just scared to feel that again. I think managing this point will make a huge difference in my life. Thank you!

We human beings have an ability to get other human beings to judge us for what we judge ourselves for. If we are at all insecure or unsure about anything we do, we have an ability to evoke a reaction in others. It's as if we have a blinking neon sign that says, "Ask me about my business so you can judge me for how weird it is." The moment we stop judging ourselves, most other people will stop judging us. It's really hard for other people to judge you if you are happy. One of the lessons I've learned is what other people say about others, is really saying something about themselves. One of the biggest groups of people that claims to be so highly judged is young people because they are still so insecure about things themselves.

Amen to that!!! So many people act more as victims and blame everyone else rather than looking at the real source of the problem: themselves.

I've just started a KZbin channel about the part of my life I'm most passionate about but most people don't know about me. Today I finally posted my video on Facebook and my fear of judgement from my traditional family and old friends is so real I can barely sit still. I just have to remember to stand by what I do and what's true to my heart regardless of those who don't understand.

This is so great. When you don't like something about another person, or how that person is treating you, that's a big freaking sign to PAY ATTENTION. It's always about us, and never about them. Now I'm not a psychologist, but as a Buddhist practitioner, who learn how the mind works through Buddhist teaching, there's a reason where this emotion fear come from. The moment each one of us is born into this world, there is a sense that "me is special and different from the rest of the world". And as we're grown up, this sense of separateness become bigger and bigger. This sense of separateness come from the Ego that is programmed into your mind the moment you're born. Here is the thing, as we've grown up and if we don't know about spiritual cultivation, then this ego become strengthened, and bigger. The bigger and more strengthened the ego, the more fearful, loneliness one become. Yes, ego can deceive us to feel good when we see that "we are special and very different from the rest". But that is just a deceiving from the ego, and the price to pay for that "feeling good because I'm very special and different from the rest" is the feeling of fearful and loneliness bigger and bigger. So as you see, the feeling of fear and anxiety already there for so long, it didn't have to wait until something "scary" to be fearful. It's just that we haven't noticed about it. Something "scary" is just an event that amplify the magnitude of "fear" so that you notice it more easily. We can NOT "hack, suppress, kill" these negative emotion because the more we try to avoid it by "hack, suppress, kill" then it can only TEMPORARY go away. And where do they go? These negative emotion will stay deep into deeper layer of the mind until something else come up to trigger it again and again. So what is the use of practice Buddhism you may ask? The answer is, as an Enlightened master, the Gautama Buddha know all the tricks of the mind, so only an enlightened master know effective method how to cure completely these diseases. One of such effective method to cure the mind, yes Buddhist teaching is specialization in curing the mind. One of powerful method is mindfulness so that you learn to observe the mind instead of identifying immediately every time an emotion come up. This way, after a serious practice then your ego become weaker and weaker instead of stronger, because your wisdom through the practice arise. You will be able to see the inter-connectedness among all sentient beings. The less you see someone different from you, the less fearful you become. In other words, you don't have a big ego and the reward you get is a sense of peaceful instead of fearful. I hope it helps my friend. Unfortunately, the western world you're living promoting a sense of "i am very special and different from anyone else", "I need to promote my specialness through doing a certain thing". That's why most of you in a state of confusion and not sure which one right. But if you want to know which one is the right way then you can ask yourself this "All the conflicts in the world, the war, jealousy and so on..."where it comes from if not from the ego, the sense of separateness?" That's why in our Oriental culture many thousand years ago, all the Awakening saints and sages never teach us to promote "I am special and different from the rest". Instead, we just promote a sense of community and de-emphazing the importance of individuality.

You like awsome!!! So true, the worse judgment of all is the one we have on ourselves. And because we judge ourselves, everyone else jugdges us. Very true, and very self-experienced. Stop judging yourselv, and start loving yourself no matter the circumstances. If you judge a "bad" circumstance, you should surreder to it, and start being greateful for the oppurtinity you are given to grow and have a soul stamina. See everything good you have, and then you are out of it in no minute automatically.

It might be selfish of me to say I do a lot of things (mean or not) becuz I want to be included and talk with my friends, it was the only way to catch their attention.. and I don’t come from a very rich family so it’s always so hard for me to get them gifts, even if I make something for them from heart, they’ll probably just throw it away, but if I don’t buy them a present they’ll say I’m selfish and not a good friend. I feel depressed becuz there’s no one I could 100% trust and talk to, they’ll just spread rumours. Plz hewlp, how should I deal with my pressure?
