In this video, I explain how to get personalized license plates for your car in California in 2023. Some rules have changed so make sure you watch my video before you waste your time. I did it for my first generation Acura TSX and I'm pretty happy with the configuration I was able to get.

The registration hickup 3:15 could be what I experienced as "suspended registration" and I had to use my phone for a online CA DMV step to pay a small fee ( you can't use the in house DMV computer terminals; you have to use your mobile device and then the DMV clerk goes over to some other workstation to open the ability for registration processes. I always bring any and all paperwork up to the DMV clerk for flawless victory. I just received my black sequential plate which doesn't require or even allow in person orders for sequential black.

They haven't been after you for no front plates? I heard California is strict about that..

It’d be only a “fix it ticket” plus Nobody pays attention to an old man driving an old car 🤣. Seriously, when I was younger I’d get pulled over for that and many other reasons now I’m pretty much invisible. I don’t drive like an idiot though (I used to) knock on wood.

I received my personal interest plate (1960 Legacy black yellow one) this week. Should I schedule an appointment to DMV? Because I got the registration and two stickers within( the VIN are correct). Should I swap the plates in the DMV or I can keep/destroy my old plate? Thanks

See? I didn’t. I just got the metal plates no stickers. You should be good. I was able to talk to a human about the delay on my set that I ordered for my old bimmer. Did you get a registration with the new plate sequence? If not, you might need to schedule an appointment. Side note: I wouldn’t discard the old ones because the personalized ones should follow you, not the vehicle when you sell it in case you still want them and you can just swap the old ones.

@@JuanCarlosLTO Thank you man for replying. I did search on Reddit others said if you received the Registration paper (And check if the VIN are correct, mine is correct) and two back plate stickers within the new plate then you’re all set! Appreciate you again

How long did it take for you to receive custom plates? I ordered custom black plates with custom lettering back in November and still haven’t receive anything yet

Oh, it took like 9 months! Actually the day that I went to the dealership for this set I ordered black replacements for my other car, meaning, they were already personalized but white and I wanted them black… early August and we are in May and I haven’t gotten them. They did say they have a back log of 7 months but no it’s been longer than that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s normal to take 8 months just patients. The DMV website said 8 months now

They did come to my house. But then you have to go to the DMV to get them linked to the car. With my other car wasn’t like that, but that was like 7 years ago. The ones I got for my Tesla were never linked to the vehicle and I lost the configuration. I just got personalized plates for my new car and I’ll see if they automatically get allocated to the car.

Oh trust me, I’m with you on that one but it’s been 17 years since! My BMW is 1989!!! I was a sophomore in high school.
