The funds are provided directly to States, U.S. Territories, local governments, and Indian tribes. Grantees use the funds to provide assistance to eligible households through existing or newly created rental assistance programs.

How to Get Help Paying Rent
If you need help paying your rent, contact your state housing finance agency or your local public housing agency office. You may qualify for government programs to get help with your rent payments.
Contact your state human or social service agency:
If you need immediate, emergency assistance.
To find out what other help may be available for you locally.
Even if you don't qualify for rental assistance through these agencies, they may be able to refer you to a community organization that can help. You may also search for and contact community or nonprofit organizations in your area. They may help you directly or offer you referral information.
INFORMATION FOR GOVERNMENTS
A list of eligible local governments, which includes a county, municipality, town, township, village, parish, borough, or other unit of general government below the State level with a population that exceeds 200,000, may be accessed below.
INFORMATION FOR RENTERS
Eligibility
An “eligible household” is defined as a renter household in which at least one or more individuals meets the following criteria:
Qualifies for unemployment or has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19;
Demonstrates a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability; and
Has a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median.
Rental assistance provided to an eligible household should not be duplicative of any other federally funded rental assistance provided to such household.
Eligible households that include an individual who has been unemployed for the 90 days prior to application for assistance and households with income at or below 50 percent of the area median are to be prioritized for assistance.
Household income is determined as either the household’s total income for calendar year 2020 or the household’s monthly income at the time of application. For household incomes determined using the latter method, income eligibility must be predetermined every 3 months.
Available Assistance
Eligible households may receive up to 12 months of assistance, plus an additional 3 months if the grantee determines the extra months are needed to ensure housing stability and grantee funds are available. The payment of existing housing-related arrears that could result in eviction of an eligible household is prioritized. Assistance must be provided to reduce an eligible household’s rental arrears before the household may receive assistance for future rent payments. Once a household’s rental arrears are reduced, grantees may only commit to providing future assistance for up to three months at a time. Households may reapply for additional assistance at the end of the three-month period if needed and the overall time limit for assistance is not exceeded.
Application Process
An application for rental assistance may be submitted by either an eligible household or by a landlord on behalf of that eligible household. Households and landlords must apply through programs established by grantees. In general, funds will be paid directly to landlords and utility service providers. If a landlord does not wish to participate, funds may be paid directly to the eligible household. Households and landlords should not submit applications for assistance to Treasury.

After all I kept faith that our gov would find a solution at some point to cover the expenses I incurred without that revenue at that time so they should honor that faith in them that I had and provide for me what was denied to me... @@Section8Consulting oh my gosh thank you its I applied for eidl in April and was denied because I didn't show economic injury due to a type-o. I should have received at least the $1000 grant but no one told me you had to have basically a brick an mortar bank they didn't take my bank so in aug they sent me the paper to fill out my revenue and cost of goods again and I got them another bank account but funds for grant were gone. I didn't hear back from them on my reconsideration till around Christmas sent in my 4506t business plan 2202 everything. Told them I was a sole prop. And I only started 1/6/20. And my credit score as of the end of nov dropped below a 570. They were like its fine but in jan 4th they denied my recons. because of credit score. I put in a final appeal and its in review now so fingers crossed. I just hope I get the $10000 grant since I'm low income area and definitely had 30% drop. I thank you so much its just me and my 11yr old daughter and 13 yr old son so I'm so grateful to you for answering my questions. When I called my county they knew nothing about any rent assistance program so hopefully in the coming week or so more info they'll have thanks so much again your a blessing.
