On the GTR lights, I thought I had read where you said you don't like to black out the housing due to the light from the ballast causing a magnifying glass effect from the sun and burning the housing. Have you ran into this on any other style of light? Thanks!
@flyryde5 жыл бұрын
on 2015+ GTRs, the "Shroud" around the projectors is what ends up melting after you paint it. That's from Sunlight magnifying into a Dr. Evil "Laser" Lots of cars get this. Most of the time, people don't even know or care that they have damage from this... until you point it out ;) lol.

What I use for headlight restoration is 2K Clear Coat Glamour. I sand the headlight with a high grit paper around 800 and then once it dries I just carefully spray the Clear Coat. The clear coat isn't cheap per can but it gets the job done

Good on you for sharing the knowledge, too many people like to keep things close to the vest. I hope your course takes off. I'm personally not signing up since I have done plenty of similar projects in the past, but that is just me, i would recommend others sign up and get some cool new skills. The only real question I would have for you is where you source some of your materials, LEDs, weatherproof connectors, resistors, ect. I know there are hundreds of cheap vendors online, I would be more interested in high quality components, that done burn out after 2 months. Hope you get a chance to reply. Keep up the good work.

The only thing is why paint the reflector bowl of the turn signal? The light doesn't reflect on anything except for the blacked out area makes it look dim. As a DIY retrofitter that'll be one of the pet peeves not to do.
@flyryde5 жыл бұрын
Kenny Man the output on those black reflectors even with stock bulbs is PLENTY bright. With the LED bulbs, it’s brighter than stock. Of course they would never come from the factory black since it’s more efficient in chrome, but it’s also ugly. If you get anywhere close to the same performance, and it looks 10x better, there’s zero question about whether you should or shouldn’t do it, IMO.
@danyo55095 жыл бұрын
FlyRyde so if my LED’s are too bright, I could spray the reflectors black and still keep the same color at 6500k?
@flyryde5 жыл бұрын
@@danyo5509 Are you talking about low beams? If so, you can't ever do anything to paint reflectors that are used for low or high beams, since the function of the reflectors is the only thing putting light on the road. If its for turn signal, its more of a style option. As bright as turn signals are, you dont even need a reflector for them to do a better job than half the cars on the road.

Hi there just a question if you headlight has metal screws inside, would you recommend a heating gun?

Gotta question for ya. What kind of headlights can I use in my reflector housing? Wanting to upgrade the lights currently in em. Also, you happen to get those new license plate lights in yet??
@flyryde5 жыл бұрын
I'm going nuts sitting here waiting for DHL right now, lol. DYING!!! Bulbs for your reflector housing could either be low power LED in a high beam reflector, but only if you have retrofitted a bixenon projector in the low beam spot (so that you still have use of the high beams... OR you could be a jerk like my buddy in his RX7 and blind the crap out of everyone if you use LED bulbs in a reflector housing. I guess the best answer is, you need to retrofit a projector if you want dope, high power LED or HID bulbs. Most people just slap in the high power bulbs in reflector low beams, and it scatters light everywhere, which is bad :(
@Conman315 жыл бұрын
FlyRyde I’ll definitely have to try to find something about retrofitting in a projector. Can’t find any aftermarket housings that have projectors in them so it would have to become a fun project!

Is there a way to change the colors of the lights on the angel eyes in between each cutout on any set of bezels? So that it appears to have an alternating pattern around the projector. And can that be preset and still double as a switchback?

Wot dog advice for some, I like to wet sand (with 1000-1500 in steps) the external of the headlight and clear them afterwards. Gives a much nicer appearance

Hi! I'm doing some research before opening my first set of headlights and came across this and your 12 points for opening and resealing video. Good stuff! Exactly what I was looking for. One quick question if you'd be so kind; I want to sort of tint the chrome bezel in stead of painting it black. For obvious reasons you're using engine enamel, are there any partially opaque alternatives I could use?

I am a quadriplegic I signed up to get my brother interested. I do have one question. No Mercedes lights are being done, why?
@flyryde5 жыл бұрын
I did Mercedes lights years ago. Until my course starts doing well as I open up the paid academy to new members, I have to drink my own koolaid and follow the specialization principal that I teach about. Mercedes is a platform I’ll dive back into when I’m not dependent on my income coming from custom work 👌

I like your channel! I personally like to spend a little extra time to mask off a little bit of the chrome rings in the headlights. You can surely tone down the chrome but make it look so much classier when you leave something that gives some depth and dimension to the headlight, otherwise everything just gets kind of lost and the design of the headlight disappears. My .02 cents.

Hi Chris! New subscriber as of a week ago. Love your videos! On this video particularly, I see you suggested $30-$40 to pay a ‘Pro’ to fix them. I polish headlights as my own side hustle and I charge $80 - I only use 3M quality sanding discs and pads and seal them up with clear coat. The materials alone are half the cost and it takes 45min-1hr to make them perfect “pro quality” but at the end of the day, I only made $20-30 depending on travel and if i have to go through more sanding discs. If you have a cheaper solution to get the same results ESPECIALLY SEALER please let me know! If i can master a cost effective way to get professional results, I may expand to customizing lights - the Ghost Module and your LED tutorials are very informative! Only thing you need now is to make a public file with sample coding people can copy and paste then fine tune. Just an idea...

Any chance you’ve done a GTR, a 2013+ Genesis Coupe, Aston Martin DB9/S Lamborghini Gallardo, or a Newer Lexus model? That’d be dope if you know something that I don’t here. But yeah, if it’s like a 2010 Genesis or a WRX, it’s super simple to just swap the flasher relay to a CF13/14 etc. To assume all cars use basic flashers instead of BCMs though is where I can’t help but question your logic 🧐
@ottobauner98284 жыл бұрын
@@flyryde actually on some of these yes. 2018 lexus toyota/lexus/scion all use the same 8 pin flasher lm449. The genesis newest one ive done would be a 2013 Hyundai would use a cf16 electronic relay. Ive done etc as well as motorcycles. The make a universal 2 pin electronic relay as well. Yes you will come across some that say they dont have a relay and are controlled by the bcm like a 07 wrangler. And yes some newer genisis (17 and newer) and some gtrs. But You are always able to install an electronic flasher relay in line to control and stop unwanted hyper flash when needed because even if you have to use a universal it will work Some bcm will accept the led and not hyper flash. Installing 1 plug and play relay or even wiring in 1 universal it less time and less material. Which equates to more profit. . Dont get me wrong I by no means am trying to insinuate I know more then you because i dont I have been watching you because I am interested in learning more about building headlights and tail lights and custom lighting rather then just installing. I have been hot rods, race cars, and full out custom cars and motorcycle for over 20 yrs. And I am always reaching out learning everything I can to stay up . I wasnt trying to be rude, which I have been told I can come off that way at times, i was trying to help with my experiences

Brother it’s biblical, correct a wise man and he’ll love you for adding to his wisdom. I just want to learn more myself. The problem is mostly, that certain things are not able to be taught to your average car owner. It barely matters what CAN be done, but mostly what can be reasonably repeated by others. As long as it’s safe, and moderately quick and easy, the more efficient way wins the day. But when efficiency requires a skill set higher than average, it shouldn’t be pushed to the consumer. Shits weird like that lol.
