Hey everyone! In this video I go over my Top 8 beginner tips and tricks for starting to play in RAILROADS Online! This game is an awesome new open world sandbox railroad builder where you can build your own railroad tracks, structures, and operate trains! The point of this video is to help new people understand what's going on and show them how to fire up the train and drive the drain, how to refill the train with water and find more firewood, how to attach rail cars, how to cut trees, how to re-rail your trains and railcars, how to build foundation and rails, and how to use some rail features! You should also let people know where to go first. For those who don't know, first off you must go to the freight depot, the go to the logging, then sawmill, and so on so forth (you will understand what you need when you get to the next place.)

The "combustion chamber" is known as the "firebox" (US terminology). The "groundwork" would be called "roadbed" or if referring to the stones that go around the ties to lock the track in place "ballast" (again, US terminology).

I think the resin you derailed was because there were probably some deformations in the rail, also I found your tutorial video helpful!

I saw Kan and Dapper as well I agree you should get together with Kan and Dapper on this playthrough, just need to watch Kan's OCD and the tracks there is no such thing as a straight railroad track lmao you should join Kan and make some crazy crooked tracks just to truly drive Kan crazy lmao awesome tutorial for this game.

I've seen some of their videos as well. Kan's insistence on having the locomotive pull the train with the locomotive facing forward (and all the unnecessary track used to make that happen) bothers me so much because it is completely at odds with prototypical logging operation.

I just realized that if you hold shift will adjusting curve and grade you can get 1/4 degree adjustments.

Every time Kosmo says cart it hurts just a little bit. Car is short for carriage anyway, which refers to passenger vehicles only. What you have there is a wagon. I know I'm being pedantic, but I do railway modelling as a hobby.

@1:31. The big red fire looking thing is called a fire box. Technically you can call it a combustion chamber but its not. it just heats the water. The fire box is where your putting all that wood and yes on a little train like this you could probably only put maybe 30 or less wood in the fire box in real life. Its hard for me to tell what railroad gauge this is. But the little train looks cute. Did you get to name the train your self or did the game do it for you? Or can this be changed in the future?.

The game calls it 3 foot track-if that helps.

You can name/number rolling stock when purchasing but the starter engine is already named Betsy when you start

The game also allows this locomotive to push/pull more cars at a time than it realistically would have done in real life. In reality, it likely would have only been able to move three cars at once (more likely one or two cars at a time).

I don't have option to shape the ground. It's not under G menu. I've spent 2 hours trying to connect two tracks to move my car out of the way and I can't connect the two tracks even if they're perfectly matched up, doesn't show link icon. I really wanna play the game but it's getting frustrating.

Btw if you dont use groundwork, your tracks will look ugly and not really straight, its easy to clip the train on some ground and derail it

I changed the gradient keys to the up and down arrows. MUCH easier to remember. This game needs some serious GUI polish.

it is VERY early access, like earlier than most companies would consider releasing a build to the public. The foundations they have look strong so I hope they will give it all the polish it needs to warrant the full $35 (or more) by the time it’s done, but that’s definitely a lot to be charging for what’s essentially an alpha build with major core features missing.

It's fun to lay the track but trying to connect the flatcar to the engine is a complete nightmare, 1 time out of 20 tries it will connect. Takes all the fun out of it.

I don't really have that issue! I find key is to have your link set up before you bring the car and engine closer to each other. then it's just a matter of inserting the 2nd pin and it should snap together.

@@darealkosmo Yes, that is exactly what I do, but I bring the eng to the car, I put the pin in the link on the car side and visually it looks like the pin is through the link, then when I pull forward they are not connected. I have had to destroy the flat car and buy another one to get it to work. Where the spawn point is it works best. If I try to connect them out on the track is mostly where the problem occurs.

This video is two weeks old, and it seems that there have been some "updates" to the game. Now you must open the fuel door to put the firewood in. I wasn't able to put wood in (like in your video) without first opening the fuel door and then putting the wood into the fire. The next problem seems to be that trying to get firewood doesn't work anymore (like in your video). I have placed the building, but it said "Firewood 0/100" and I can't pick up any firewood. In your video you left click and you have firewood in your hand. I have tried left clicking (when I am on the platform and it says left click for firewood) and I have tried that multiple times, but it doesn't put any firewood in my hand, and I have no way to resupply/replenish my firewood. Hopefully you can do an updated video (using the 20211029 build release (very latest build) because I can't seem to find a way to get any firewood.

You don't need to open the firebox door actually, you can still just throw the firewood at the regulator handle As of the recent update you have to bring logs to the firewood depot so that it can create firewood for you to pick up for your train My video that just came out covers all this, give it a gander! :)

I’ll take a look at some of your newer videos, but this was by far the absolute BEST “getting started” video, and I love how you walked us through the basics step-by-step! This is a perfect video for anyone just getting started. I did look at KAN’s and some other videos but everyone has skipped steps and this is the ONLY video that I found that starts off with EXACTLY what we need to learn, and HOW to do it step-by-step and I will watch your other videos next, because these are extremely helpful when you just start to play! Thank-you!

The game looks fun, but the building looks clunky. I don't see why the building of foundation and tracks should be done separately, it just makes you do the same work twice and making it even harder for you to line up your tracks with the foundation. Having the foundation being generated automatically when placing tracks should be the norm imo. I like things to be neat and straight when I build things, which I don't see happen with how things are currently. They should add some visual markers at tracks to know when you are perfectly centered, being finicky to line stuff up just isn't fun
