Im leaving for France this weekend with my Van, Wife & doggy..... always use the eurotunnel & know there processes well.. but thought try ferry with the dog. THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOD AND EASY WATCH - A GREAT HOW TO WITH GOOD SLOW MO ........... 1ST CLASS GUYS & MADE MY LIFE A BIT EASIER .

This is so useful. We really want to go abroad for the first time next year with Roxy but we are a little nervous. Thank you for sharing Did you make the changes to your van that you wanted to do? It was good to see the pet lounge and Rupert looked comfy You did make me laugh quite a few times re driving, aftershave, lorry drivers etc Rachel & David

Thanks! We were nervous the very first time, but now it’s a really fun and enjoyable experience. We have made some steady changes to Basco, but we still have lots more to do! Plenty of people get the ferry for the first time on every crossing. The staff and organisation is good and easy to follow. I’m not sure we will use the pet lounge again as it was full and the dogs didn’t settle. I think he prefers the van and his comfy bed. Enjoy!

Thanks for taking the time to let me know. We may have taken the ferry 5-6 times since then. We are actually travelling this weekend. We haven’t done the pet lounge again, as we found it to be too busy and was sat in a room with dogs constantly barking! It would be lovely if it was a quiet crossing. We are going to try the dieppe newhaven crossing this weekend. It’s 4 hours, but is more convenient for us this time. Rupert is used to having a nap in his home and we are ok to leave him for 4 hours maximum, he has water, some relaxing music and we hide treats around the camper for him to find! I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Europe with the camper!

@@ir0n2541 enjoy Italy! We loved the Dolomites and Tuscany. I think if you time your crossing, you might get a nice relaxing crossing for you both. We have some videos from Italy, I think it’s called “Dario and the dolomites” check it out the beautiful setting you will find! 🇮🇹

Interesting to see. We have crossed the channel by Eurotunnel many many times, but it's getting a bit pricey. Now P&O have the pet lounge it changes our options because I wouldn't want to leave our dog in the campervan below decks. I think we will give it try. Thanks for the info.

Hi i was wondering how the Eurotunnel is. Seems to me a little claustrophobic? Or am i wrong about that. We are still undecided if we want to take the ferry or the boat. Thank you

@@adascraps I don't find it claustrophobic. In our case we are in a campervan so I go and have a lie down in the back. You're not really aware you're travelling in a tunnel, it's just dark outside, plenty bright enough inside. On the last trip having weighed everything up I decided on the tunnel again. For us there would be an extra half hour or so getting to Dover, rather than the tunnel, then in Calais it would take longer to get to the motorway. That's on top of a longer crossing time. The tunnel is quick and usually efficient and you don't have to leave your vehicle.

@@adascraps We've averaged 3 tunnel crossings a year for the last 20 years and the only problems have been delays due to a technical problem. The bigger problem is getting round the M25!😀

What do customs in france do about dogs? Say youve took your dog like you did, it looked really easy but ehat it like coming back to england with a dog? Do they do pots of checks? My brother and his wife have gone traveling in france but they want me to drive to france in the next few days and bring the family dog back as hes not enjoying the trip. Is it easy to go to calais, pick up the dog and come back to the UK. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

@@debodevil6974 you need to visit a French vet more than 24hours before you travel (but no more than 5days) The vet will give the dog a worming tablet and do a basic health check. You then get a stamp in the dogs passport with a date and a signature. Present this at the ferry terminal in France. It’s easy, but here are some extra tips. Buy your worming tablet yourself, keep it sealed and give to the vet to use, it’s much cheaper. Ring around for quotes, we have had anything from €120 to €20 for this service. Make sure the Vet stamps and signs the page, we have had issues in the past when it wasn’t clear on the page.

How they checking an AHC?You just pass papers to them and scan your dog by yourself?

@@michaupaszko2482 on the ferry, they pass you the scanner and you can scan your own dog. We pass over the papers and it’s very simple. Safe journey

@@ChefCampers so how early do you have to be to check your dog in before the scheduled time?is there any traffic?

@@michaupaszko2482 I would recommend checking your operators guidelines as each port can vary. In Dover, we would sometimes arrive 2hours early and the dog doesn’t add any additional time. We would then usually get offered an earlier ferry, free of charge, so we wasted no time and crossed early. Worst case scenario is that it is full and then we are early for our crossing, we put the kettle on!
