From the Home Screen Add an App, look for Media Player add that and open it and it should find your USB device.
Simple guide video but took me a couple of hours to work out.

Super. I had put all my father in laws photos onto a usb memory stick so that he could view them on his tv. I was excited to show him and then .... grrrrrrr... it wouldnt work. Now i know the solution. He will be delighted. Thank you

You dont buy Sony/Panasonic tv if you want watch movies from the stick. Lack of proper modern video formats (anty piracy stuff). Lg from other had is super friendly. You can play everything like 4k HDR 10 bit 7.1 atmos. just from the stick. Love my LG C1 :D

Was going to mention the same, my LG plays all sorts, Sony in Living room will only play older formats eg X and H264 codecs, will not play newer X265 etc.

@@DelDredd Yea, learned that version a hard way with my previous Panasonic. I was like I will get the box to play the movies from it, but it was always a hassle. Stick is a stick.

I looked at the manual for the Sony A80J which states it can play H265, mp4, mkv etc so does it depend on the model? Debating whether to get the A80J or LG CS, prefer Sony but want to use my USB stick.

Find 'Media Player' never works as it keeps loading my USB MX player used to work perfectly but has stopped, VLC an ok option but a bit messy as you cant 'Filter' file types

I did have mine linked to my Facebook photo album... but they have removed that ability now... Not sure... what image type it is... if you work it out, repost here... Right now mine is on the Nasa photo set that Sony have as a default... new in 2023...

We tend to just stream the pc on the TV using Bluetooth. Much easier and most smart TVs can do it

A Bluetooth connection is never going to be as fast as a USB drive connected directly to the TV. I sometimes notice quite a bit of intermittent lag when casting using Bluetooth. But I guess there are a lot of variables like interference, Laptop/PC specs and Bluetooth card etc. that could make one person's experience worse than another's. The other advantage is you don't have to break out the laptop or PC to watch the media. You just need your TV remote.

@Eddie-hv4yq Depends on your setup. You can stream your entire pc to your TV, not just a video which is what we do sometimes via wifi. We then just use a mouse while sitting on the couch. Removes the need for fiddling with USB sticks and waiting for files to transfer. You can stream games from your pc to your TV too.

​@@lemons2476 I know, I'm an IT guy. You have various options: Bluetooth (not recommended because it is slow and not very stable when it comes to transferring medium to high quality video. There is also Wi-Fi direct that allows you to connect directly to a compatible Smart TV's Wi-Fi connection, there is Chromecast, which is one of the better options. And then there is direct HDMI to HDMI connection from a hard wired connection stand point. If you have a Smart TV, it usually already has most apps like Netflix, KZbin and other popular streaming services installed which makes streaming from your PC to TV redundant. To me, it is a lot more convenient to just put a bunch of movies on a USB drive (especially ones that aren't available on streaming services you have or require you rent them) and keep it connected to your Smart TV and forget it. Then, like I said, all you need is your TV remote to watch what you want. No need to break out the PC or laptop. Also, the only time there is a need wait for files to transfer is when you first put them onto your USB drive.

They are solid state and shouldn't carry a charge that would make them feel overly hot.... warm... perhaps.. Google your make and model of USB and warm... see what comes back.
