Thank you for this content. I have always romanticized the bohemian lifestyles that many of the artists and philosophers of the past lived. Unfortunately a prerequisite for living that life is money... The INTP dream is to inherit a large sum that you can rely on for the rest of your life.

I'm 26 years old. I've saved 5k and received 5k from my dad. I'm going to take that money(10k) and travel by hitchhiking. I may even supplement that with seasonal work. I would suggest using X number of years to acquire a stash of money so you can jumpstart your simple lifestyle. Don't just fly by the seat of your pants. The bohemian life is doable if you're smart about it. Don't get addicted to drugs. Don't get arrested. Be safe. Be thrufty. All that can lead you to a fulfilling life as a nomad.

yes, money is the only way to live now unfortunately, even though working feels like a waste of life. That's why you just gotta hunker down, minimize expenses, save, invest, and get a van or something. Live frugally and you will find the privilege of time. kinda contradictory but that's the best I got.

I find that following a routine or a schedule is harder as an INTP.
@MattLaine
@MattLaine 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, just as it is for an INTJ. Just remember that your schedule doesn't have to be your tyrant or prison. It's a way of getting to do what you want, and making sure to orient your life such that it should always be possible. Enough "me time" to make it worth it, and enough "let's get this cr@p done" time to ensure the quality of life you want/need to be at your best and actually enjoy it.

I feel like I do not need it for long, after some time you absorb the abstract patterns and reasons why you are doing what youvare doing, just check time to time that you have not forgotten to do these things.
@Hawkido
@Hawkido 4 жыл бұрын
To me it is because my mind does not have a clock. I cannot gauge what time it is... there is no event to process when a task should kick off. The only way I can operate on a schedule is if I devote a stupid amount of time checking the clock. If I do that I cannot get anything else done as I have to keep interrupting myself to check the time. One scheduled task destroys all of my productivity for the time preceding that event. Which further enforces that the schedule is more disruptive to my productivity. Some people are color blind... I am time blind.

I wish I had this twenty years ago. As a 40 year old INTP, I had to do this the hard way through years of anxiety and the guilt of letting my ISFJ wife down. I can't stress enough that it does get better once you implement a system. Having scheduled times helps your mind prepare and ultimately become very efficient at getting those things done.

As an INTP battling chronic illness (Chrons disease) I can say specifically battling chronic fatigue adds such a heavy layer of confusion to my days as I may go to bed with a general plan of what I want or need to get done but may wake up the following day and have very little energy to get those things done. It really can start to take a toll on my mental health. But the silver lining is i typically don’t take things for granted as much anymore and I blatantly see that your health really is your most important asset, and nothing can work out to begin with if you don’t prioritize it.

I tend to go back to first principles. Due to the fact that "common ground" is rarely common, and that life is quite simple for us to navigate committed to what it could be, I find that sticking to first principles makes everything seem like it's being explained to a fifth grader. Interestingly, if it's presented respectfully, I don't find it condescending.

Funny...I was thinking to myself while watching your videos....This guy is very insightful but he really seems too uptight to be an INTP....but he also seems to know what he is talking about.... hmm, definitely smart, definitely in the intellectual NT category. I suppose I will trust his assessment until more info can be collected. Don't take it the wrong way...INTPs just have less of a serious undertone to them in my experience. Then I hear you say you are an INTJ.... and I feel relief. hah, ok good. My intuition is still working (although I was surprised that you have so many videos on INTPs instead of INTJ)....maybe I missed those ones. Either way, I appreciate the insight and I like how you articulate. I have seen far worse attempts on the subject.

I'm not built for making videos for XNTJ types. By the way, I discovered I'm an ENTJ, not an INTJ. So, it stands to reason that my time making videos would be best used by producing information for INTPs, and my learning time would be best spent by consuming the information provided by INTPs. The cognitive functions line up more coherently to that end than to any other.

Hello, I am looking to pursue academics in mathematics. I think I am an intp. How do I best prepare myself to fund my exploration project in context of working within a university? I love maths a lot but I am worried I am going to be forced into doing research that will have trivial outcomes for the sake of making those in superior positions happy. My main solution to this problem would be to become more competent than everyone else in the area, so then I would have some exploration space. However, there might be limitations to this plan due to external factors ie intelligence (like I'm pretty dumb) and time. The way I'm dealing with the second factor is I decided to study for a scholarship in the uni, then I wouldn't have to work as much (talking about job here) and can focus on research. However, there are some problems to this. Firstly, I gotta become extremely competent in the curriculum and their exams. Consequently, I get zero to less me time. Not saying I dislike the math curriculum they give me (well I have some problems. First they put a large amount of physics in a pure math highschool course. So when I go to study math I got no proof writing skills. Like these guys don't think but whatever I guess.', I just can't really race ahead because I gotta get perfect marks for the scholar ship. My justification for this studying is that it is 6 month of hardcore exploitation for the chance of a couple of years hopefully pure exploration. I can keep explaining it just gets more complicated though. What are your thoughts if you have any? Once I get into uni my plan would be to finish all the courses self study within 5-6 months over the break. Then just study for the exams tests and do my own research for the rest of my degree. I would also look into other closely related fields see if I can find patterns that link them to some math research or other project. Letme just sum this up. How do I get the exploration space in academics because it seems like I gotta rigoursly prove myself through exploitation before I can get any exploration time. Is there any way around do I just find some research while doing my undergrad and hand it to some random professor and hope they don't steal it in order to get a name for myself...? Question no 2. Should I care about where I do my degree more about how flexible the place is. Like if we had a weighting scale how should I weigh flexibility of university to reputation of university and competency of the researchers. Any thoughts on this. I haven't really spoke to anyone about this cause they would just call me crazy and say enjoy the degree or something along those lines. I'm just worried because I want to be able to be on the brink of the unknown in subject matters so I can explore right, but everyone keeps pushing me in a linear direction. (Time to dig a shovel a make a new path?)

@MattLaine
@MattLaine 3 жыл бұрын
The more time you have, the better your chances are in this regard. I'm assuming that taking a job you hate beats starving to death or holding oneself in contempt, so there are some circumstances that would warrant getting a job that you hate on account of it being better than starving, being perpetually on welfare, or the like. I have no idea of your life's circumstance, but let's say that you're in your late teens or early twenties. One potential idea could be to explore ways of monetizing the things that you enjoy while you're at college, or while it's feasible to have roommates to cut down on the expenses. This way, whatever job you get flipping hamburgers, restocking library shelves, pouring concrete, tutoring, etc., can help make ends meet and you can have some money and time left over to explore what you want and to invest in making your life what you want it to be. If you're younger than that, then avail yourself of the time that you have and try to turn your experiences into profit-making endeavors. If you're older than that and/or are in a bad situation, I'd suggest doing everything possible to avoid getting into high-interest debt and to get some savings. Buying yourself breathing room through having an "oh, shit" fund of half a year's worth of living expenses or thereabouts is a prerequisite for being able to risk trying something that has the potential to be meaningful and profitable. There is also the other route of picking something that makes you an obscene amount of money, investing most of it, and then retiring super early to do what you want. Similarly, there is the route of picking something that makes you an obscene amount of money, doing that for a couple months out of the year, and then using the rest of the year to explore whatever you want. It's mostly playing a game of "connect-the-dots between what I want and where I am," and actually going for what interests you as opposed to keeping it as a thought exercise, as many INTPs and INFPs are prone to doing. Even if there isn't a completely clear path, if you aren't up to your eyeballs in debt and have a financial cushion, it's totally possible to take a few steps in a direction that interests you in order to learn more about what you like and so-on. Anyhow, those are some ramblings. I'm sure you can sort through the implications and map them to your own life; after all, you are an INTP.
