How to Gloss a Surfboard Using Solarez UV Cure Resin

solarez.com/ One of the advantage of using Solarez UV cure resin is: The "B" stage allows extra time for the brush strokes to "lay out" and also surfacing agent to rise.
Because the resin is just slightly catalyzed it will last about 5 hours at 65 degrees.
Materials Used:
Solarez UV Cure Gloss Resin.
3M green hi-tack works best (233+ masking tape)
Sandpaper: Norton Premium & Waterproof
dry sand deck with 600 grit
wet sand rails with 400 grit then 600 grit
3M 05954 Super Duty Rubbing Compound.
If you do not have Blu Shel, (not made anymore)
use: #5 Meguiars Glaze Polish

That looks beautiful! It would look outstanding over the 5 color liquid dye dye kit! I know a few guys using the Solarez over the dyes on guitars with GORGEOUS results! Even heard of someone using the dyes to mix into a small amount of the M.E.K (methyl ethyl keytone) then tint the Solarez for tables etc. Great look!

Is there any Fiberglass cloth or only resin and wood. I built a foil for kiteboarding used 2 layers of 4oz cloth which muted my beautiful wood underneath. Epoxy Resin Research 2000 geting ready to try the hot coat. For bringing up the surface finish. Wish me luck. Great video, thanks for putting it out.

Polyester resin DOES eat eps foam! You can ONLY use epoxy resin with eps. And don't listen to people that tell you to epoxy first, then use polyester; the 2 different coats will NOT bond chemically.

can I apply this stuff over some kind of paint or stain? I would like to go with a piece wood, then either painted or stain it completely white, but I don't want the grains of the wood to be seen, I just a plain glossy white piece of wood. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video. Question. IAM about to make some surfboard art work one of them is a surfboard outdoor shower. What do you recommend for the coating finish. Probably be built using or or pine. I was thinking of marine varnish as the coating. Your thoughts😀 Points will be no resin or epoxy just the wood. It's out side so got weather to deal with sun rain uv ECT.

Good morning, complements for your videos, very nice and useful !!! I'm restoring an old kite surfboard, made of resin. At the moment I have carried out numerous repairs with epoxy, fiberglass and mocrosfers, as a result the surface is aesthetically very unpleasant. The original resin was transparent and graphics were integrated between layers. I made the same graphics with the PC, so I can print them by ink jet plotters. At the moment I purchased epoxy and fiberglass to re-laminate the whole board over the existing layers. I don't care about the weight, I wish it will be very strong. I also bought a colorant for resins, white. If you can, I need some advice to finish the work, to give the surf an aesthetic aspect similar to the original: To give a white background, so as to cancel all the remaining signs of repairs, which is better than the following procedures? Procedure 1) - First lamiantion using only one layer of fiberglass and white colored resin - Second lamination with the next layers of fiber glass and trasparent resin and interposing between the layers the printed graphics Procedure 2) - I spread the white resin with brush all over the surface to erase the signs of repairs - Lamination with all the fiberglass layers, interposing the printed graphics Also, do you think for the realization of graphics it is possible to use glossy lucid paper (the kind used for techinchal drawings and china) or if you must use rice paper? How long did it take you from start to finish to resin & polish that board? Surely longer than the 15 minutes of the video. It looks like you did it all in a single day, but I'm curious exactly how long each step took. I know the resin sets up quick, but how long did the sanding & polishing steps take? You made everything look so easy. How do you think an amateur would do trying this?

Pro tip, use acetone and a microfiber town to take off any remaining dust before adding the resin. Let the acetone dry first of course. I wonder if you could uv cure carbon fiber?
