@@DemonViewLLC go pro 11 arrived an hour ago , iv 2 gripes!!! 1) the update is loading 45 mins, guess it crashed cos the 10 took 2 mins 2) I shit u not, can't remove the lense off the 11 to test the max lens, its stuck on!!! wat I wanted to test is the difference between max lens 2.7k 60 4:3 vs the native lens 4k 60 :4:3, which is wider... of course not interested in super hyper view fluff, their edges make footage unusable especially if peoples faces get distorted from it... Did you turn the camera on? Are you connected using the original GoPro cable? Did you set your source up for 1080P (since that's all the GoPro supports).

No, mobile devices nor GoPro's can be used in this manner of hardware combination. OBS studio is basically the closest thing to a software based A/V mixer with customizable options that you can get on a PC/Mac/Linux workstation.

The GoPro Max doesn't support video out. It simply doesn't have the hardware. So you can't use this as a webcam or as a video source.

@@KevKlopper Don't think that statement is quite accurate. The only software I can see in the legacy section is GoPro Fusion Studio which wasn't compatible with the Max. The older Max software was incorporated to the fully supported "GoPro Player" which is still available for download from GoPro.com. GoPro also stated they were releasing new desktop software and they were hoping to release it this year.

So i need some help. Ive got a Gopro 11 i just bought and I have a Rode Video Mic with it, but I want to know if I can use that mic on it when using the gopro? My normal webcam has a mic and I can use it, but my PC seems to not be recognizing the mic at all. Any help?

Not sure how you're trying to use your mic... For your mic to work with your GoPro, you need to have a media mod attached to your GoPro (you could use the GoPro Mic adapter also, but due to it's age, I recommend the media mod instead). If you're trying to use your GoPro as a webcam, then the GoPro doesn't support audio. So you would need to plug your Microphone directly into the PC/laptop rather than plugging it into the GoPro.

@@aurumdestroyer You are very welcome. If using at a desk, I'd advise finding a way to mount the mic so it's not in direct contact with any surface you're interacting with. This will prevent "conductive" noise being generated and being picked up by your mic.

Great stuff. However, in this vid when your feed is from the GoPro, the sync with audio is out by quite a bit. Is this a fault with the GoPro or is it OBS?

A bit of both. The GoPro emulates a network Webcam and doesn't support audio. So the emulation means there is a delay in the video signal. I would have to use separate audio and delay the audio to match the GoPro video. This can be done in OBS. However for this video i didn't do that as I simply don't use the GoPro as a Webcam and this was just a demonstration.

You can flip your camera 90 degree's and then flip the picture 90 degree's in OBS studio and there you go, instant portrait mode.

Depends on how you're using your GoPro. Not sure GoPro as a webcam supports portrait mode. In HDMI out mode it may not either.

I have been using obs for a while, but how do I connect my new gopro to my obs? I didn't need info on how to set up a camera on obs, I don't know how to go live with my gopro on obs. How do I connect the camera to my computer via bluetooth with a seamless latency?

Bluetooth is a low bandwidth connection. It's not capable of transmitting video. You need to go to gopro.com, download the Webcam app, and connect your camera to your PC via USB cable just like you would with a webcam.

Yes, however you can offset this in obs so it's not obvious. GoPros as a Webcam require a LOT of light and will only give you a 1080p image with very little adjustments possible.

Hmmm. Interesting Revelation I just had because of this. I see you turning on and off different cameras in one scene. Pretty good idea and probably uses up less resources with OBS. I may try this next time I stream.

The cameras are always active, all I did was switch between sources. There is no "on and off". Without being used as a source, there is no video stream for OBS to do anything with. What will make the difference is having multiple cameras at once in the same stream and the resolution they are set up to record in.

You can adjust settings on the GoPro camera wirelessly using the GoPro app. If you're asking if you can use the GoPro as a webcam wirelessly, then it's a yes/no answer. There are 3rd party apps that will allow this, but you'll be regulated to a very low quality preview stream for video of about 480P I think it is.

Can you name one webcam that does have stabilization? Not many people tend to go running or hiking while using a PC or Laptop attached to a webcam to make a video. They do however use the Livestream feature of the GoPro to go live when hiking, running, riding a motorbike and as far as I remember the Hero 10 and 11 both offer stabilization while doing this. Not sure about the 9 and earlier.

How is the gopro connected to the mac?

It depends on what you're doing. If you're going live with your GoPro, you connect it to your mac using the original GoPro cable that came with your camera. If you're editing files, you use an SD card reader and copy the files from the GoPro SD card to the Mac and bypass the USB cable (and usb bottleneck).

I think I noticed something similar when shooting with my Hero 11 in OBS the other day when I was making a video about the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam. I was doing comparisons between the Kiyo Pro, Kiyo Pro Ultra and the Hero 11. The Hero 11 had the smallest amount of lag. Not a second, but maybe 1/10th of a second. Enough so that the video didn't quite match up with the audio. I'm sure it's due to the amount of processing the GoPro is doing on board (tonal mapping, 3d combing, denoising, stabilization is still being added it seems which means Gyro data is also being logged...). Are you using the GoPro in Webcam mode or are you running a HDMI cable via the media mod into a capture card?

@@crmurua26 I would make sure you are connecting using your Original GoPro cable. Check to see that you're using a USB 3.1 port on your PC or Laptop, don't run it through a USB hub or you could be bottlenecking your performance. Might want to include your system specs too. Also try running it without the SD card in the camera. If your SD card is corrupt, has formatting issues or is just too slow, then that could affect camera performance.

@@DemonViewLLC My pc specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor 3.70 GHz Nvidia geforce 3060rtx Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor (copy pasted XD) I am using the go pro´s original usb C cable (the very short one) and still doing it, my pc has 3.0 usb ports (don´t if that could affect as they aren´t 3.1)

@@crmurua26 In addition to trying different USB ports, if you're still having delayed video, you can try adding a delay into your audio so that the two of them sync. click on on of the gear wheel icons in the main OBS window, where the volume sliders are and open the advanced audio options. Now you can add in a delay to your audio. Then try doing some test recordings to ensure the sync is how you want it.

Anything is possible, but it's not recommended, the GoPro would only be able to stream a low resolution low bit rate video about 480p or less. So it would be pointless and unwatchable

Because the gopro doesn't use a native Webcam driver. You have to download the gopro Webcam app and install it.

I got it downloaded and it works in "preview" for the webcam gopro app. But when I open any program like OBS and find it in the camera list ( it does show now) when I select Gopro it just shows a white screen with a pic of a webcam. No live feed from the camera even though the camera itself says "webcam" mode and it DOES show in the gopro app preview.... but just the white screen in OBS or any other program I have. Any clue how to fix that? I can't find anything online but other people complaining about the same issue.

Strange..... I dont use the gopro as a Webcam, so sounds like the app needs updating. Go onto gopro support and let then know, that way staff knows there is an issue and can work on it.

Seems no one has a solution that works and support has not answered anyone there with more that " update the app, update OBS " I didn't even have the app on my laptop until today so I'm sure it's the latest version. I'll double check. I also update OBS but same thing. It's not OBS, because I tried my filmora video editor and when I select "gopro " in the source selector for recording, it shows the exact same white preview screen with gopro logo, but no video. The video is showing in the gopro app preview. But no other programs will show the video strream when I select gopro . they only show that preview white screen with gopro logo.

But.... when I open ANY software that uses cameras, OBS, filmora, a few others, they ALL show the gopro camera in the list, I select it, and it shows nothing but a white screen with the gopro logo on it and will NOT send the camera stream. It just stays on that white gopro screen, but the video is showing perfectly in the gopro app preview. WHY ???

Why is your audio not in sync with your video when the GoPro is your video source?

This is due to the fact that the GoPro is not webcam, but actually emulates being a webcam, so there is a slight delay with the picture. Since the GoPro (as a webcam) doesn't support audio, audio is coming from a different source. To sync, the audio needs to be offset so it matches, but this would have to be set up as a scene. This wasn't done in this video as that's not what the video was about, it was about going live and using multiple video sources with OBS.

The gopro Webcam app only supports a single gopro. You could use multiple gopros with multiple media mods and a multiple hdmi switcher, but for a 1080p picture, it would be cheaper to buy a whole bunch of 4k Webcams instead.

Usually security and OS updates can introduce new problems for the GoPro app. Since GoPro is actually a very small company (they may have huge sales, but they really are a tiny company), their focus right now is likely on the new Quik desktop app. If you're using a MAC, Sonoma, Apple have a security work around to re-enable the camera. If you're on Windows 10 or earlier, I think the Webcam app only supports Windows 11 currently.

That's the thing about using better software that no one mentions. It can be very simple and easy to use, but it has so many additional options (that you may never use) it looks way more complicated than it is.

@@DemonViewLLC well it's something I'll have to learn as I go. My webcam is horrible on the PC and I don't know why they even put it there. Camera phones are superior and easy to use but for some reason technology is never streamlined to match everything.

@@BigManAlaska Yeah, invest in a good webcam and don't use a laptop camera. They simply suck. Using a cellphone can yield great results, but a lot of people use the selfie cam instead of the back camera (which will give far better resolution and quality). It's really all about "primary shooting". I mainly film in my studio space, so for me, using a webcam is best. If I filmed outdoors more, I'd probably use the GoPro (great in natural light, bad indoors). However lots of pro creators do use their cellphones and get fantastic results.
