How to Gospelize a Melody Line

Once you learn gospel chords and how they fit in a song, you apply the gospel chord to the melody note which is what he is teaching in the lesson. That's learned thru this process.

I was playing along with him and soaking it in. Then I happened to play f blues on it starting with f ab bb b c then eb f back to eb the f with pinky. I thought about that f minor is very close to the blues scale and is part of the ab diatonic scales.. it this is done swing style, it sounds great.. leave out the f and play ab bb b c eb f ab. love this subscribed and rang the bell. Your playing is grand and multifaceted.You have many styles in you r vocabulary but your video did not show how to.I had music theory in college and know some jazz progressions but i could not figure out the chords and harmonies you played so wonderfully in your video .I kept expecting a tutorial on how to at least gospelize a melody. The same chords for piano can be applied to the organ. It's just the technique that changes.

when you know the path of a melody line you can "hear" how a 7th or dimished chord would sound like around that melody. I can "hear" chords in my head before I play them so at times I have 4 - 5 chords I decide to play as I'm going over the song while playing. In that song I added the 7th tone at the lyric melody line "cross" and diminished at end of "sav...voir". You really should check out the course on my site for more detailed exanmples.

Do you have a course on turn arounds, runs, famous intros and other what I will call "odes" to popular gospel tunes. I hear a lot of organist do what you did when you started off Pass Me Not. I notice a lot of organist especially on hymns might open up with a take on a turn around from He's Done Enough, or Pray for me and then they pepper with popular turn arounds or hooks then go right back into the hymn. Do you have this course or know of one. Thanks.

The melody is always the highest note in the right hand, chords follow below the melody and the bass notes holds it all together.
