I am just interested in to why you use to bleach instead of peroxide?
@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
Sure, no problem. I have bleach, it's cheap, and it's what's used in most water purification (chlorine) running through our household pipes every day. Plants don't take up bleach and it breaks down very quickly back into salt and water. Also found that plants don't mind it even at 9:1. Here's some information on it: www.clorox.com/our-purpose/our-causes/the-truth-about-bleach/. On the flip side, store-bought hydrogen peroxide has something to it that doesn't allow it to be "food-grade". I don't know what that is, but the food-grade is expensive. I'm not against hydrogen peroxide, but being that I rinse the bleach solution many times and it breaks down, I just can't see changing to something else. I absolutely don't mind discussing differing opinions ok so let me have it if you think differently. :O)

For example, the state the person is in, when it was left, the length of time, and if the person is a subscriber or not. Combine them all over many videos and you can see the trend. In my case, the person I believe it could be is consistent making it even easier to follow his trend. Otherwise, I certainly see hitting a button on accident or someone just doesn't like it the video. I'd prefer the feedback so improve. I'm not combative. All possibilities don't bother me. You're literally the best KZbin channel on Microgreens I've watched so far. What solution do you use to control mold? Keep up with the great informative work.
@C3Voyage5 жыл бұрын
That's a simple, yet not simple question to answer. What is NOT on KZbin so far are the subtle changes and the tiny secrets I've discovered. This year, I picked up where I left off from a year ago trying to improve no-medium grows. I'm having great success to date. What I wanted to do is absolutely simplify to make it all easy for everyone. I tell you this as background for your answer. I control mold with oxygen. Part of that equation is a spray I use with hydrogen peroxide. The other part I'm going to reveal in my upcoming book. It's the bigger piece. I have to answer you in that way because I want to be honest, yet I'm not ready to reveal the changes. I'm still testing it. My book will cost less than $15. It'll be an elaborate instruction manual with lots of pictures, access to me, and access to detailed videos that support the book. I hope to have it finished in less than 2 months. Currently, the video I made last year is still quite good and it explains where I left off last year and the antifungal (mold). The antifungal described for mold is my "Super Antifungal" and it's in the book. It controls disease and insect pressure such as gnats or white flies. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6O8nYeViL1goa8 I'm not asking you to buy the book, but it's going to be detailed for what I feel is a great price especially with the additional benefits on top of the book. You can always chat with me. My email is in the description. I am very flattered by your comments. Thank you Paulo.

what was the temp in your green house during this grow?
@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
I do not monitor specific temps per grow. It varies based on how cold it gets outside and how sunny days are. Generally speaking, my winter greenhouse heaters are set to go on when temps get colder than 65 and an exhaust fan comes on at temps greater than 82. The exhaust fan draws in the colder air from outside and an overhead fan circulates it all. As an example of variance, when temps are in the 20s, the heaters can't keep the temps at 65 like they can when temps are in the upper 30s at night. Another one is when it's bright and sunny, the exhaust fan runs constantly even when temps are near freezing because the sun heats up the greenhouse wonderfully. Temps can reach near 90 in some cases. All said, my round-about temps on average are 60 at night and 80 during day. Hope that helps.

Thanks Teddy. I did a 20:1 bleach soak for 1 hour, rinsed several times, and finished soaking for about 12 hours total or so. I used the AF spray 1x/day afterwards till roots grew into the bottom tray. After that hose garden soaking once a day or so (3 times). Harvest was 10 days so it went fast. I kept looking for fungus since it was so packed and kept in the dark 8 of 10 days. Had to be humid as heck! No fungus. Hi Brent, This is the third or fourth time I've watched this video and I'm still learning things from it. BUT, I have a question: After you strip the roots off the bottom of the tray and begin to remove the Pea Sprouts from the tray, if you were to plant a handful in soil, would they grow the same as if they were planted in soil to begin with? Also, if you do plant a handful, say in a five gallon bucket, would they grow and produce pods even if they were planted tight together like they are in the 10x20 tray?

@C3Voyage5 жыл бұрын
Hey George. Simple answer is I was learning. I've just about got all of it nailed down now. I'm creating another .pdf on changes. Antifungal works fantastic to prevent fungus. Still believe that and it's organic if you use a soap other than Dawn. I don't care about that and rinse Dawn, but many do. Bleach could certainly be used, but I never went further with it because bleach can be detrimental to plant growth. It's chlorine and too much chlorine (chlorine is a plant nutrient btw) could cause issues. I decided never to push it. I've gotten much better at most micros now and bleach is used on the really tough ones only although I'm working on something else in the near future.

Thank you for your amazing video. I’m quite time poor and usually will only watch 5min videos yours I’m certainly glad I watched. I’m just a beginner growing for my family and have a couple of questions: Why is it necessary to grow in the dark then green up? ...I’m growing successfully on top of my kitchen cupboards under (beside actually) lights .. When you say home growers will have days supply.. how long will they last just growing..? ..I’ve been trimming off the tops for a couple of weeks and they keep rapidly growing.. (quite exciting)
@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
There is no need to grow in the dark. This is just what I do. Growing in the dark makes the plant stretch up to find light as if it's still under the soil. This increases more plant, more mass, more weight. The longer the plants are exposed to light, the tougher they get, therefore, a plant not exposed to light is more tender. But, plants without light don't develop many leaves, or with peas, tendrils. This is preferable to me--a tender, less leafy, and more weight product. I don't trim the tops because each time you trim, you have diminishing returns (less product grows back). It's a preference thing. I'd rather just keep starting new because each grow makes a lot and it can be stored in the fridge for a couple weeks. Some folks like trimming peas because they grow back and there's nothing wrong with it.

Hi Brent, great video! I am curious about how many ounces of seed you started with to get an idea of the returns on investment with a real dense planting like that.
@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
I failed to explain that well in the beginning of the video. I listened to myself explain it in editing and it didn't register quickly so my bad there. My initial plan was to do two trays each with a standard 300-gram start. 300 grams of peas is normally right at 1 solo cup full pre-soak. Since I was comparing 3 types, each tray would have 100 grams of each. So, doing 2 trays with each at 100 grams equates to 200 grams of each variety for 600 grams. To complicate things a little more, 'cause we're not complicated enough yet (right?), I eyeballed a 2/3 solo cup full of each. Now, post-soak, there wasn't enough peas to do 2 trays so I shorted each pea some when eyeballing the dry peas in the solo cup. Here is my best guess to your question: 500 to 525 grams. I am not sure how dry grams equates to dry ounces as I measure in grams. I'm sorry I can't be more precise.
@bullshoalsblues6 жыл бұрын
If I followed you, then, you used about 500 grams (about 17 oz) of seed total and got 4.46 pounds of greens. About 450 percent return. Not too shabby!

I trust your calculations! Lol. I just can't believe that much made it to harvest. I think if I'd taken them out 2 days earlier and into the light, there'd be even more mass. I was surprised at a 10 day harvest as well. Hey, it's all new to me and I'm having fun. All the best BSB.

@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
I do not know in the least. It's not a consideration for me because I get so many gallons of water for the minimal bill payment. With all my gardening, I still never go over the water allotment minimum. I think we get 1000 gallons for the minimum bill and over 1000 gallons adds a little per 100 gallons (an example). I can tell you that I recognize the importance of water usage for some so I've modified spraying Microgreens using a 1-gallon sprayer and the water usage is clear now. It was never really that much, but it gave the impression it might have been for some. I will incorporate rinsing this way in future videos as well as addressing plastics. I would so give this a go , but I'm afraid of the fertilizers being used. I grow microgreens for Parrots, I don't need to use anything that would harm them.what all is in your fertilizer solution?is there a more organic type solution ?also , Can you provide a link and name of the trays you used.

Google "Bootstrap Farmer" on Google. I bought them off Amazon, but they have a website. Super easy to find either place. I use Masterblend 4-18-38 from Morgan County seeds along with Calcinit and Epsom. Very common hydroponic solution. You don't want organic liquid growing unless it's aerated constantly. It'll go anerobic quickly.

I have not. I don't see them in the micro seed companies.

Great video! I read through all comments, to be sure you hadn’t gotten this info before. I heard another MC grower say that the peas get sweeter under a little refrigeration, at the end of the grow, or after harvesting. Loving your videos! Going to head on over to your Travel/RV channel, to meet your bride. No inappropriateness intended, but these videos, I’ve started referring to as, Microgreens Porn. 🌱🌱🌱

Amazing result, i viewed so many of your videos and subscribed, the videos are amazing but i couldn't find a full answer to so many questions i have so i hope you help me out and walk me through the steps and kindly answer these questions: 1- big seeds with need to be rinsed 3-4 times and soaked for a minimum of 12 hours then rinsed again, is that correct? 2- small seeds like watercress should be soaked for 3 hours maximum to avoid fungus, is that correct? 3- what should i use for rinsing and soaking, tap or mineral or reverse osmosis water? 4- whats in your anti fungus solution? 5- should i always germinate my seeds under pressure and with no light? 6- what color should i use after germination happen, some peoples say red and others says purple and others says 2 red and 1 blue and some even said normal white LED pulp will do. i know this sound like i know nothing about this subject but the thing is there is a zillion of methods and almost all channels sound like they just want the views so they will say any thing to us and me and others can't trust them but not in your channel, you show your mistakes and allow others to learn from your mistakes, that why i am sending that huge amount of questions. and i do suggest that you make a dedicated video to cover all the things mentioned above and maybe more from your side :) thanks for your time

Hey Fadi! I will answer any and all questions you have. Do you mind, however, viewing this video as I think it answers a lot of what you're asking. Then, you can ask what wasn't covered in this video or whatever wasn't clear. I don't mind. In the video, it says you can ask for a .pdf summary which I can send you as well. Thanks buddy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6O8nYeViL1goa8

WOW thanks for the quick respond, i will totally watch that video and by the way, i was planning on producing microgreens to sell them in small quantities and i was working on a creating a multiple pilots to figure out what the best for each but for now i ended up of needing a massively 2520 sample for each plant and i have 26 different plants and that a total of 65520 samples which is impossible for even USDA. any way if you care of checking the still not 100% finished program of the study i can share it with google docs :)

Have you considered using 3% peroxide, compared to bleach? I like what you're doing, thank you.
@C3Voyage6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, I have considered it and it's been mentioned before. Since you asked, I'm going to explain, but it's not to be argumentative or contrary. Just why I use it and that's all ok. I'm concerned about it's effectiveness as a mold and disease killing agent. And then, what's the cost and amounts to use if it is a viable option? I used to use "food grade" HP so it makes me wonder what is in the non-food-grade HP 3% formula. Bleach is a common disinfectant, very cheap, and it breaks down quickly into non-harmful properties. It's used in drinking water supplies and swimming pools too. For me, the real kicker is that it works and the seeds germinate great. All said, I am open to reasoning to change to something else. What's your thoughts on it all? Thank you for the kind words. Glad to have you here! :O)

I am glad that you've taken the time to share your experience. I am new to microgreens and enjoy learning new ways of doing things. I hope that the only difference is it passed an additional quality check. The main reason I've asked, is out of the few people that show spraying, they've all used hp- that could be due to my narrow searches so far. I personally just want to raise the healthiest stock that I'm able to and strive to learn more efficient techniques. Thank you once again. Cheers brother.

There may be some confusion. I'm glad you came back. I don't spray with bleach. Check out my antifungal video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpLXlWqVmd6JhNU. I use that for spraying in the beginning then only clean water. No HP or bleach. Bleach is only an initial 1 hour or so soak and that's only certain types of seeds, especially sunflowers. Also, check out my Microgreens Q & A video. It spells out exactly every step. Hope that clears things up.

Just an opinion and not based on any kind of scientific evidence -but I'm thinking if you greened this up a few days sooner and longer -before they stretched so tall they might be more nutritious because less of the seeds energy is being put into stem and more of the growth enzymes and energy into the growing tips -which is consumed
@C3Voyage5 жыл бұрын
You should check out some of my nutrient vs water videos Drew. Or, any of my later videos. Without some sort of nutrient, micros don't do well. The seed doesn't provide enough nutrients by a long shot. I give the micros what they need in the form of a complete water-soluble nutrient fertilizer. Now, I'm working on organic fertilizers and I'm hoping my next grow cracks the puzzle. If you see a microgreen that grows to full maturity, and it looks great vs stunted, it's because there's something in the media they're growing in that provides the nutrition. Without media, like I grow, it's very obvious. With peas, there's lots of options to grow. I now, call these types of grows "blackout blondes". They're more tender than those grown in light, but those grown in light have more leaves and tendrils, which some prefer, but they're more fibrous. It's all about options and preference!

I couldn't watch the full video because of the continual ads. Their was more time with the interupted ads than video content. When I was no longer remembering whereIwas At in the video after the final ad interuptionI quit watching. Waste of time - didn't retain anything from the video. Other than that;the video seemed well done and probably informative.
@C3Voyage4 жыл бұрын
Stu, I understand where you're coming from. That's the KZbin platform. It has ads similar to TV. Well over 99% of all KZbin creators over 1000 subscribers have it. 1000 is the minimum sub level where creators start earning money. The reason most create videos is $$ in the form of ad revenue. Not all, but the overwhelming majority. It's what funds the videos and helps us bring content to you. Otherwise, what's the incentive to create and share information? And yes, it's annoying! I feel like I should apologize, but it's my gravy train that keeps me going. Full disclosure and one of the few that will tell you the truth.
