Hi everyone! Thank you so much for watching the video. I am working on making an update video, but in the meantime, I want to give everyone an update. Unfortunately, 40-60% of the plants died (melted) after about 3 months and after about 6 months I took the rest out and replaced them with tissue culture plants and already established plants. I tried using C02 (liquid and then a tank of C02) but it didn’t help. I also added flourish (made by Seachem). I found out after posting the video that these particular plant seeds really weren’t meant to be aquarium plants. The tank was amazing for a solid 3 months and I really wish I have found a way to keep it that way.

I planted my seeds yesterday. I too purchased my seeds off of Amazon ( different species than you purchased) , but I paid $19 for two packages for my 20gal tank. I only decided to do 3/4 of the tank in carpet and went with sand for the rest. I purchased a grow light from Home depot. In the last 24 hrs , I have checked on the seeds a little excessively... I am SO eager for them to sprout lol. Thank you for sharing this video, it was very helpful and your aquarium carpet is what inspired me to upgrade from a 5gal w/o plants to a 20gal with lots of greenery. I hope mine turns out as well as yours and thanks you so Mich again for sharing.

Please let me know how it goes!! And I also watched my mine everyday waiting on it to begin sprouting 😂. I actually have 2 other planted tanks and last summer I finally built a pond for the carnival goldfish I got about 5 years ago that are now almost 10” long. Your fish will love all the plants. Once I started adding live plants to my tanks my aquariums did so much better and looked so much better. And I have one planted tank I did with sand, it’s my most established tank and the plants in there do great. I actually take clippings from the plants in that tank and use them in my other tanks.

I don’t think adding the seeds to an already established tank would work. The seeds would not stay in one place long enough to root. You could grow them in a little bowl (to make a mini carpet) and after they started to grow and root well you could move the mini carpet into the tar tank all as one piece. You could also grown them on a piece of drift wood and then move that into the tank after the plants were rooted in the wood.

When I did it, I waited longer, but I read that as long as the plants have rooted in the soil/substrate it should be ok. Just put the water in super slow or your plants will come loose. It could. The tank should be humid. I don’t know exactly what temp my tank was when I was growing the seeds, but I had a plant light shinning into the tank which created heat and the plastic cover helped keep the heat and moisture in. The one piece of advice I can give is make sure you lift the plastic for at 15-25 mins a day, this will help stop mold from growing on the plants and sides of the tank.

Can i have an update on your carpet plants how are they doing, was there any melting so far? I'm going to have my tank done the same way accordingly I'm using tropica aquarium soil only, with no plant fertilizer for dry start method is that good enough? Plus can these carpet plants last with co2 tablets and flourish ?
@FerretTails4 жыл бұрын
40-60% of the plants died (melted) after about 3 months and a month ago. I took the rest out and replaced them with tissue culture plants and already established plants. I tried using C02 (liquid and then a tank of C02) but it didn’t help. I also added flourish I found out after posting the video that these particular plant seeds really weren’t meant to be aquarium plants. I definitely would not use them again.

@@FerretTails Thank you for saving my time, I don't think seeds work in the long run also could you suggest an alternative carpet plant that could be a good idea.

I used this. I think it’s called Glossostigma elatinoides, but I never could get a solids answer. Here is the link to the actual seeds so used. Hi, how is the carpet doing as of now?
@FerretTails4 жыл бұрын
Terrence Sarmiento It could be better. did not initially use C02 or a light specifically for plants and for the first few months the plants grew great and were healthy. In the last month or so, they started to thin out and die. I recently added C02 and better lighting. The plants seem to be doing better, but I might have waited to long to save them. So, if possible you may want to use C02 and/or a plant light. I think it would have helped my plants live longer. I will do an update soon.

My seeds have gone slimy after touching water? Is this normal or should do I need to re start?
@FerretTails2 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember mine being overly slimy, except when I first put them in. As soon as the water hit them, they became slimy and sticky. But they ended up on in the end. Just make sure to let air in the tank for about 20-30 mins a day to prevent the tank from growing mold.

Hi, very nice planted tank.. i would try it as well.. did you use co2?
@FerretTails4 жыл бұрын
Axel Chio I didn’t use it for the first 2-3 months and I should have. My plants started to die and that’s when I added the C02. The plants are doing a little better now. But if I ever do a planted tank from seeds again, I would use C02 from the beginning.

I planted my seeds a week ago and still haven’t seen any growth any suggestions?
@FerretTails Жыл бұрын
It’s been almost 4 years since I made this video but if I remember correctly, it took a couple of days for the seeds to start, and I had to lift the plastic off the top for about 20 to 30 minutes every day to give it air and to stop the tank from growing mold because the seeds need to stay wet. Also, I’m not sure if you saw the comment pinned at the top but unfortunately, 40-60% of the plants died (melted) after about 3 months and after about 6 months I took the rest out and replaced them with tissue culture plants and already established plants. I tried using C02 (liquid and then a tank of C02) but it didn’t help. I also added flourish (made by Seachem). The tank was amazing for a solid 3 months and I really wish I have found a way to keep it that way, but nothing I did stopped the plants from dying. I i’ve also heard from some people that these particular plant seeds really weren’t meant to be aquarium plants, and the people selling them on, Amazon certainly don’t specify that, but they probably should.

Will the seeds grow in just gravels? Then i water it? And is it ok if there is no light at night?
@FerretTails4 жыл бұрын
The seeds need to be moist to grow. They would probably grow in gravel. They need about 10-11 hours of light in the beginning, after they have sprouted and rooted, you can cut it back some. Just to let you know, about 50% of them died after 3 months and last week (8 months after this video) I decided to remove the rest of them from the tank and replace them with different plants. The seed seed plants were not green or healthy anymore. Apparently a lot of people experience this after growing them.

Very few are still alive. Most of them died between 3-6 months. I did try CO2, but not until after they started dying and it didn’t really help.

@@FerretTails I had the same experience with these seeds. I’m not so sure that they are actually an aquatic plant 🌱
@FerretTails4 жыл бұрын
@@mikef3300 I’m pretty sure your right. I have heard that a lot since I posted this video and the more I look into it the more I find that these seeds have a reputation of not surviving longer than 3 months or so. The sad part is the tank was so beautiful for a good 3 months before the plants really started to die.
