I purchased one of these at my local Home Depot earlier this week. I plan to put it in the corner of my back yard. I'm in zone 6b. I love these plants.

I would love to plant this tree in my side yard, but I'm in Zone 9, AHS Zone 8, area faces East, temperatures in the 90's, will get sun until 2:30pm. The area has ~5" of woodchips to keep the ground cool, and will get weekly drip irrigation, Sandy Loam soil. Will it work? In a few years when new trees grow, it will get dabbled shade. I would like to give it a try. Would you?

Like your videos Jim, very informative. I have some dwarf hinokis that I planted 3 years ago and they’re growing slowly in the shade but doing well. Maybe at some future date you could do a video on dwarf conifers for shade because it’s a short list. Thanks.

0:16 I've read it can reach 15' and even 50'(!) depending on the website. Is it being confused for a similar tree? Can anyone confirm what the true height could be?

Many trees in this family have had a real tough time in Vancouver and around here. Other evergreens have not had the same issues. I don't know if its summer drought or the deluge of rain in the rest of the year, but rotten roots, like you said, have killed many trees here.

Your plant is looking so happy. I'm not sure if it's the same plant I have, but I purchase three of them last summer. It's all brown now. What happens? Please help me to save them. Thanks

How tall do these get? I hear 12 ft and others 30 ft?

Is there a cultivar of this that grows about 5 ft tall and 3 ft wide? I need a pair of bushes to flank the doors of my garden shed, which is painted dark green, so I would like bright foliage and something upright and "sculptural" looking. Zone 6, part sun/shade, average soil and moisture. Thank you.

Ola! Thanks for putting out very informative contents. I've been in search of a privacy or screen plants that will survive next o a Black Walnut tree. I've tried different evergreens but they end up dying after a year or 2.Thanks for your input.

Hi Jim, enjoy your videos! If using this as a specimen plant in all day sun can you recommend any companion shrubs that will look good together. Thanks

Hi Jim, What happens in 15 years with this tree? Do you remove it? Is that difficult job (big trunk, large roots)?

Golden Hinoki wouldn't be bad at all. The regular Hinoki Cypress would be gigantic at that point.

Thanks this one's in my new landscape design. Question: What is your opinion on Emerald Colonnade Holly. My designer put Bright N Tight Laurel but thinking about using Emerald Colonnade instead. I'm in 7b as well.

+Jason Lutz I don't have any experience with that variety yet. I really like Oakland and Robin Hollies which look similar.

That plant looks like a arborvitae to me ... I have a golden Hinoki False Cypress and it's different than that plant.
