I just had to move my vine that has been growing for 4 years this summer because it became too invasive on my neighbors property. I replanted the vine and took cuttings from the vine. The cuttings have already started to sprout from when I planted them in the soil about 1 week ago. I'm going to have grape vines for ever and ever now 🤣🤣🤣🙏🏿

I’ve had pretty good success rooting grape cuttings this way using coco coir as my growing medium and rooting hormone. My 10 year old has also got his own cuttings going now after seeing that it worked for me 😄

I really enjoy your videos. Very informative with not so much needless chatter, which is crucial when you watch several videos on the same subject! Only 1 suggestion: I feel it would be beneficial if at the beginning of each video, you stated which zone you are in.

Can you place cuttings in water to root and then place them in soil?

Do the vines need to have had a particular amount of dormancy time before the cuttings made from them will root? Our vines went dormant a couple months ago (about October), but it hasn't actually been all that cold yet (nights mostly in the 30s and 40s, with a couple of 20s here and there). If I take cuttings at the beginning of December, is that enough dormancy time beforehand? Also, in a dry climate, is it helpful to put a plastic bag over the cuttings to help hold in moisture, or will that cause them to rot?

Very cool! How much light do the cuttings need after they're in a pot? Is having them by a window enough, or do they need more light?
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, a sunny window is great! As much light as you can give them. Grapes are sun-loving plants! :-)

I may have a silly question. I just trimmed a little more from my seedless Thompson and now it is weeping. How bad is that for the grape? I am in the valley of CA, 9B. The trees are starting to bloom...like one of my plumcots. Is it too close to springtime in my area?

Blackberries & raspberries can also be tip layered. Just tuck the tip of one of the canes into some soil & it will root, then cut to remove from mother plant.

@theripetomatofarms hello I’m hoping you can help me. I’m in Arkansas zone 7b and I ordered $125 worth of cuttings from an online seller in California. I received them after about (4) days transit in Dec 5th. They were packed in dry peat moss. I rooted them in a grow tent with a constant temp of 78 degrees and high humidity using rooting hormone exactly like you did. I’m worried that either the cuttings dried out during shipping or they didn’t have enough chill time. The seller has agreed to send me more and he did that they have just went dormant. Do they need a certain amount of dormant chill time before they will bud/root? Any advise that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I’ve been rooting the last batch for 19 days and the buds haven’t swollen or sprouted at all and the cambium layer looks brown. Not white with hues of green like yours do. Merry Christmas and thank you so much.

I haven't found that they need a chill to resprout at all. If the inner part is brown, it's unlikely they were alive to begin with. Your setup sounds perfect, so clearly not your fault. Cheers!

If you see this. It is mid-July down in North Carolina. Hot and Humid. I have Muscadines I have babysat for a number of years and get a good harvest. However, we just bought a new house and move date is Middle of August. When it is going to really be hot. Is moving cuttings possible as I will not be able to return once we move.
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, completely possible....but likely you'll have do it it indoors. Try to take the cuttings in the morning. Start now to ensure you are getting roots. Best of luck!

You’re clearly not taking cuttings from grape vines in an area that has 5-8 feet of snow covering the garden. 😂
