@@lifebyolia Hello, can i plant the same way in my yard? How much does it take to grow into a tall tree, like 10m tall :) ?
@lifebyolia
@lifebyolia 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't stratify the seeds, because I picked the pine cone after winter. Besides, we usually have a cold winter there, so the seed had already been stratified by nature. Also the pine seeds can be sprouted without any stratification if they are mature and good dried. And soaking the seeds in water will speed up germination process.
@leafdude69420

I use to grow one with out stratified once and it didn't grow. not to mention my country is so hot so it can be a challenge.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, I think the climate in your country might be the reason, and also a lot depends on a type of trees and quality of seeds
@thomasbrennan819

Hi there, great video 👌 I am having the same question as to whether or not to stratify seeds. I think a lot depends on climate and time of planting. I'm living in Ireland so winters tend to be mild but I heard that acorns for example need to be protected from frost also. It seems more natural for me that a seed is planted outside and naturally germinates in the spring. I planted acorns outside last week, I will do both methods with the pine and see which works best! I think if the plant is native it should thrive in its outdoor habitat.
@lifebyolia
@lifebyolia 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! :) Hmmm... That's an interesting experiment to check and compare the both methods! I think you are right, the natural environment and conditions are the best for native plants. But, I think, more controlled natural conditions may increase the rate of seed germination. I mean, for instance, fallen leaves and dry grass can be some protection from frost for acorns in nature. So maybe it makes sense to protect the planted acorns in that way. It's just my thoughts :) And also, about pines, the seeds are inside pine cones during the winter, so they are also getting the natural protection. Good luck with your experiment!

I've been watching videos and reading articles non stop. I got a bunch of seeds. Put them in the fridge for a month. Planted into potting mix. Done everything and two months no germination. When I drive around Perth's countryside I see the baby pines growing up out of the worst sandy soil and think wtf seriously? You come up everywhere naturally except my seedling containers! I will try this method by covering it with film. Thank you

That is a spruce cone. Otherwise good advice. I've grown spruce myself and plan to do that again. Try acorns: collect them in late autumn and let them stratify over winter. Then wake them up by soaking them in water and planting them in a warm place. Be careful though, the small trees die easily indoors so they should be planted outside when they have grown a bit.

I think small pine trees like these, are one of the most beautiful things of nature: thank you for this video and it's quality! Some months ago I also planted some seeds like yours, but they unfortunately (I think i watered them too much) died in few weeks. Insted, other pines which were born about one month ago, seem to be ok. They're very difficult to mantain alive, so I hope yours are growing well. Thank you another time for the video!

Thank you! Happy you enjoyed my video. I hope things will turn out fine for your young trees. Mine seems still to be fine on my balcony, even if it's already a little cold and not enough light in that time of a year. But I moved a part of pines to grow outside because I got much more trees than I expected. And I hope they'll not suffer in natural conditions in winter.

How do you add water after covering it under plastic. By removing plastic or by other methods. And how much time we have to give them sunlight
@lifebyolia
@lifebyolia 3 жыл бұрын
I removed the plastic for watering, and after that returned it back every time. As I know, sometimes people just place the pots in water, but I'm not sure it'll be enough for keeping the soil enough wet. And it's very important to not allow the soil to become dry. About sunlight, pine is a very light-loving tree. The more light - the better.

Hello! I'm not sure, but I've a guess. We've a lot of mosses in forests there. And the soil I used I dug up under a thick layer of moss. Also I included pieces of moss in the soil. So I guess it helped me to save my seeds, because mosses have some antifungal properties.

I’m glad you found my video helpful :) Seeds can germinate even in very poor soil, they don’t need a lot of nutrients at first. They may need some fertilizer later if your soil is very poor. Yes, you can grow them indoors in winter. Just try to provide them with as much light as you can.
