Wow! Never seen these type of radishes before; I've only seen watermelon radish and daikon radish, which is something I'm currently planting in my garden. What is your mode of preparation for these radishes (eat raw, stir fry, etc)?
@TowardGarden

This is my favorite radish variety. They taste great and leaves are delicious too. We usually slice them raw in our salad. And daikon radish is definitely on my list and would love to grow it. Thank you so much for your comment and happy growing!!😊

2:35 part. hello! I started this grow last week after seeing your video. Now i see that something has started to nibble on some of the little greens on top. I've looked on the internet and it has no asnwer so i came to you. Will the radishes that's had their green top eaten/damaged still be able to grow? What do you recommend as a natural pest repellant? #radish
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Most probably insects and tiny worms are eating leaves. The best is to spray neem oil mix, or even better Spinosad mix. Both are organic and natural (check my amazon page for a list of natural spray I use www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-3dd9a3b6/list/XLDNRZO26ESK?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d ). Another option is to cover them with garden netting, but that is more preventative and I think it is late for that. If the damage is not extensive and roots are ok, once you spray the plants, leaves will regrow. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you for this tutorial! I'm going to thin my radishes tomorrow, is there any way to replant the thinned radishes? I feel wasteful throwing them out. Thank you!
@TowardGarden

Radishes don't like to be transplanted and will likely die. But you can use the thinned seedlings in your salad as well. Good luck!

Yummy...My bunny enjoys the tops!! I would like to grow on window sill...should i use grow lite?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Radishes need adequate light to grow roots. If you grow inside (even with grow lights), the roots won't be as big as in the sunlight. If you want to protect them from your bunny, cover the container with a garden netting, or place the pots in an elevated location. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
@Harmonylovess

Great video! Would I be able to substitute the perlite for vermiculite? Also any fertilizer needed during growing process?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 9 ай бұрын
Yes, perlite and vermiculite do the same job and are interchangeable. Radishes are fast growing crops and if your soil is rich enough you won't need fertilizers. But if you think they need a boost, any water soluble tomato fertilizer would be a great option. hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

Great video! When you mention cool and hot weather are you meaning growing in hot weather or growing in cool weather? For instance if I start them right now in August hot 7a zone they’ll be hot? And if I grow them in cool November they’ll be sweet? I could only watch because I couldn’t turn on CC. Thank you for sharing. Simple yet informative.
@TowardGarden

Yes, you are right. If you start late fall (or early spring) they will be sweeter comparing to the ones planted in late summer. Hope this answers your question and thank you so much for your comment!

@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
I am a bit hesitant to post a general video on pests knowing every pest/disease has its unique solution, but sure I will add it on my list. For rolly pollies (and many root/soil bugs), one of the most effective methods is sprinkling Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth around the plants. I have it on my amazon page if you want to check www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-3dd9a3b6 . I hope this helps and thank you for your comment!

After 35 days most of mine are only 3/4 an inch in diameter and the leaves only 1-2" long. Any tips advice? Also, should I harvest now or wait for them to grow to standard size?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Just to be clear the days I had it was just a guideline. Even for me it doesn't turn out to be same every time I plant them. Now to answer your question, it may be due to different reasons, but I am guessing you need to give them a little boost. Try feeding them with diluted water soluble fertilizers, organic tomato ones will do the job. It usually takes longer to get to this point. From here to fully mature will go quickly, so I suggest to wait a bit longer to enjoy full size radishes. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!

@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 2 ай бұрын
I make my own potting mix and you can find the details here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpXMap6teqaSjpIsi=j7b5aU_1w1wuNMal . IF yo want to use bagged soil, any general purpose mix available in garden centers will work. My preferred soil is Kellogg Garden Outdoor Organic Potting Mix kellogggarden.com/products/kellogg/kellogg-garden-organics-natural-potting-mix/ . The splitting issue is most probably due to insect activities. Spray neem oil mix a.co/d/5GOQzoX or spinosad mix a.co/d/2PKRob5, both are organic and it helps a lot. Good luck and thank you for visiting!

It is either the light or the soil has too much nitrogen. For example if the soil contains too much manure, which is nitrogen rich, it will promote leaf growth and not roots. Adding bone meal will help plants to develop big roots. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
@catlover-fp5ig
@catlover-fp5ig Жыл бұрын
@@TowardGarden I just used regular potting mix (day 4, mine have just started sprouting) and I'm not sure how much nitrogen is in the soil. Should I add some bone meal to it now or is it too late/not worth it? I also have some seaweed solution but I haven't added it yet as I'm not sure if I should. Thank you, this is my first time growing something from seed so I'm very excited!
