I just found you and I’m so excited to have a garden this year!! I did 5 tubs last year which was all that I could take care of then. I’m 77 and I have had a couple of hard years. Almost dying and had to go on ventilator and lost my social skills even walking. I’m improving with physical therapy and I AM GOING TO GARDEN MORE THIS YEAR!!!! Thank you so much for helping all of us with your tips. My husband did all the gardening and I did the preserving. He has gone to our Lord so it’s up to me now. Thank you!!!!

CaliKim, I love love LOVE your videos! I just started gardening this year - pretty much by accident after I found some of my tossed kitchen scraps growing in my “burn pile” of yard debris out back - now 3 months later my kitchen is filled with upcycled planters and seed trays & everything is growing like crazy! I didn’t expect that so MANY of my seeds would germinate, but now I have 30+ tomato plants & 90+ pepper plants & up until yesterday, was feeling completely overwhelmed & in over my head. I’ve learned so much from your pepper and tomato videos & can’t wait to start transplanting them this morning. You’ve truly inspired me with your cheerful & upbeat attitude and with all of your amazing (& easy!) tips!! Thank you so much!!! 😊

I'm SO excited! I've been watching you for what seems like forever, BUT, I lived in Colorado on a small lot and didn't have a lot of room to garden. I've moved. I'm now in Florida and have 3/4 of an acre!!! Longer growing seasons, more land .. I'm giddy! I will finally be able to use your tips and ideas while growing lots and lots of things.

Hi Jennifer - thanks a bunch for watching my videos from the get go! I grew up in CO, it is a beautiful state. But how fun to move to a climate where you can grow year round and have more space to grow your own food! So happy for you. If you need seeds for your new garden, check out my seed collections at calikimgardenandhome.com - I'd love to grow some of the same varieties and compare notes on how they grow in Florida! I can't wait to hear what you are going to grow in your new garden space - enjoy!

I use same method with drinking cups and coffee cups. Ice Picks make nice holes too. Also, if you get the disposable coffee cups with plastic lids, you can fill the cup with garden soil, put the plastic lid on, turn the cup upside down, cut a hole in the paper bottom of the cup and put the seed in. The cup will drain then and the sprout comes up through the bottom with the hole in it which is now the new top.

The horn worm grows up to be a hummingbird moth, which is very beneficial in the garden. It’s a wonderful pollinator. I give them their own plant to eat, away from the others. I used to kill them also, until learning this.

hi, nice video. I get rid of the worms by putting up a bird feeder nearby my vegetable garden bed. The presence of birds i find to be a deterrent, whether they get scared of them or get eaten by them. I have not had any of these worms on any tomato plant and i have an abundance of birds coming in and out of the area due to the presence of bird feeder.

Great video as usual! Thank you. I believe that planting borage nearby tomato plants is very good at deterring the tomato hornworm, and for additional support, planting nasturtium, marigolds and basil nearby wards off tomato pests in general. However, potatoes, kohlrabi, cabbage, and cauliflower should be kept away from tomatoes. Keep up the good work!

I'm almost tearing up right now due to of amount of time, detailing and effort you've put into making sure you've provided fail proof information so all your viewers can be successful. I've watched quite a few videos and read books yet none compare. I feel like some individuals don't share enough or leave critical nuggets out to keep their audience which is annoying cus we're all on this planet to learn. Anyways, Now I feel confident in growing tomatoes. I''ve tried a few times an failed however this year, will be a different story. I feel better prepared. Thank you! Lovely nasturtiums, and thank you for leaving that sweet little common clover in your garden! She is great for improving the nitrogen in the soil and an often overlooked gentle herb for a cleansing and fortifying tea.

Am enjoying your video on growing tomatoes, seed to harvest. We have used the cattle panels also in our garden for plant holders. We have bent tome in the middle (curved) to more cuddle the plants and tie in the middle of the curve. Also laid them lengthwise curved on the ground for plants to grow up and over, as well as how you used them. They have been cut in two and also cut into three or four pieces. On the cut pieces we drove those ends into the ground for additional support. You are only limited by your imagination and needs. I definitely prefer them to the round ones purchased.

I know this video is a couple years old, but we bought 2 of the FM lights this winter, and discovered that FM puts out little cords that will link them together, up to 4 lights on a single switch. They run about $9 each from the company, but it sure saves a lot of outlet space by eliminating the power cords for 3 of them!

I can't wait for this season to start 😀 I'm planning on growing a lot of different tomatos this time. I already have a few tomato seedlings started (sub Arctic plenty and red robin), but the rest of the seeds will have to wait a bit longer - because it's still snowing here in Denmark and I don't have that much space indoors 😉

Hi Unnie - sounds like you are off to a great start there in Denmark. Hope it stops snowing soon so you can get your garden planted - it will feel great to get out in the garden again. Thanks for watching!

So funny I been using 100 watt daylight fluorescent spiral bulbs for many many years to grow veggies indoors like salad cucumbers dwarf peppers n tiny Tim’s . I’ve got my seedlings under the lights now. Nice dark green leaves. This is my second year ever that I am doing soil. Ever. I did soil one summer in 2013. I’m so excited! And lots of learning. Doing it from seed this time

1:22:31. Wow! With that many red tomatoes, I'd make spaghetti sauce here in Malaysia! I grow some veggies and herbs too in my garden in Malaysia, here we have warm weather all year long 365 days. I haven't grown tomatoes yet but after watching your video, I'll do that here in Kuala Lumpur. Here I grow lemongrass, kaffir lime (we use leaves for aromatics in some dishes), sweet potatoes, screwpine ( a kind of aromatic herb used in dishes such as NASI LEMAK - you better Google Nasi Lemak! Delicious! Hahaha!), curry leaf, malabar spinach, Brazil spinach, noni (I eat the leaves), turmeric, torch ginger, okra, eggplant and many more, so much that I actually do not have to but veggies at stores/markets, and save some money on household foods. Used to grow lots of tomatoes and other US veggies in Utah in summer.

hi , i enjoyed your video , a few diy's i use , my hoop cages were same mesh but 6''x6'' welded wire x 5' the diameter i choose was 30'' with 2 metal fence posts . the hornworms were dealt with by having plastic mulch and spray with hot pepper wax , now when they try chomping the droppings are a bright green when fresh , day old they are dull green , day old they are brownish black , i look for the fresh droppings and then search over them , now where i am i move those critters to the sumac trees as they seem to enjoy those also , i am in northern new england we transplant to outdoors on Memorial Day , harvesting starts July 4th , i pump fertilized water 24/7 in soaker hose buried under my plastic mulch , this allows the heated warm moist environment , a ecosystem with pest seeking frogs and garden snakes preying on bugs and rodents , the tomato root structure evolves into 2 huge root balls one a foot down where the manure is placed when they were planted and the other root ball is next to the soaker hose , i only grow those antique varieties , the extra tomatoes we make into paste and freeze , 130 plants produce over 2,000 pounds through our season , happy harvesting !

Hi Cali Kim, I loved watching this video. I just bought a single beef tomato plant from a local nursery yesterday 4-1-21, I plan to grow it in a grow bag. I was so excited to start this process but when you spoke of rats and hornworms I am thinking about changing my mind 🤔. But I love fried green tomatoes so I may try to calm my fear 😨 and go for it. I will be checking more of your videos throughout the process. tfs

Hi Cali Kim! You have so many videos and I just really enjoy watching/listening to them. We recently took down a giant redwood tree because it was sick. This is going to free up some space for a raised garden bed or two. I just was watching/listening to your raised garden bed video and then, also plants that you filled in after you built your trellis. I have a couple of questions. Because I’m a very visual person. I’m just curious, the raised beds face south correct? Did you plant your tomatoes at the south end of the bed? Then, lastly, for now,I have some tomato 😊plants leftover slowly producing tomatoes. Some of the tomatoes are down further on the plant while I have long Viney section at the top that is not doing anything but still looks healthy. Is it OK to cut the top off? My thinking is more energy would go to the tomato, but I’m not sure. I’m looking forward to ordering a book and definitely some of your seeds!

Hi ya Kim! WOW, 10 to 12 feet, I’m jealous, mine only get to at least 4 ft, I hadn’t had a garden for 3 yrs n a row but hadn’t for the past few years. Do to an injury, will start one next year. Gardening sure is a science. And the bugs, man they r a killer, I had this beautiful, big wee be little pumpkin plants growing on a ladder and one day I saw these weird bugs, the next day there were more and the plant started looking unhealthy, next day plant was dead. I was and still am a green horn, how do u keep bugs away not using harmful chemicals. If u have a video on this I hadn’t ran across it yet. U r knowledge, I’m glad I ran across ur channel. Thank u

To keep horn worm off my tomatoes I plant a few tobacco plant a row next to the tomatoes, I have found the horn worm moth rather lay it eggs on the tobacco then tomatoes. Also you can see the eggs and caterpillars easier on the tobacco leaves so you can pick them off.
