@KsmSilver once you've lightened your hair (aka removed the natural pigment from it) you can't go back you have to dye over it. this lightened her hair because under the black hair dye, her hair was lightened before. it doesn't restore your natural pigment or anything like that, it just removes chemically added pigment (aka dye).

It worked fine for me. I left it on for 20 minutes and then washed it twice in the shower and rinsed it for 5 minutes. I let it dry overnight and put fresh color on the next day. No problems at all.

It does not affect natural "virgin" hair that's grown in--only the portion of hair that had the dye applied to it. So when it removes the dark dye any roots that grew in will be visible.

Hi, loved your sister's hair!! Do you happen to know if that product can be used on henna hair? I've used henna for 9 years and I am looking for a method that I can use to remove the henna and be able to achieve a lighter tone because henna has darken my hair. I need a product that won't be so harsh on my hair because my gray hairs are brittle already.

I actually purchased the loreal color remover but was afraid to use it because on the box it says to NOT get it on your skin. That sounds too harsh for me. The HD color remover was very gentle.

@Bingjie8511 No, these types of removers break down the molecules of the dye and don't actually lighten hair. They just remove the colour. With most removers, it leaves a reddish undertone- that's why her sister's hair colour was red afterwards, even if she was a natural dark brown. If you want to lighten your hair, I would suggest going to the hair dresser and getting a consultation. You can also put lemon juice in your hair to "naturally" lighten it- but test it on a strand first.

I have natural dirty blonde hair & died it dark brown. It came out black. I had hoped that if I stop dying it, it will go back to normal. If I use this a couple times will it be my natural dirty blonde again, or will I have to wait for it to lighten & then dye it as close to my color as possible? There are already some blonde strands from not re-dying it but my roots are starting to show. It depends, if you went from dark brown to light brown it will work. But if you bleached your hair, it wont, because when you bleach, you take out your hairs natural color, so there is no under color for it to go back to, whereas when you dont bleach, your covering up your natual color, so when stripping it(which is what this product does(, you have the natural color to go back to. If you werent really wanting the explaination, sorry. but main thing, if bleached hair, no you can't.

You can do it several times to make your hair lighter but if it doesn't get the exact color that you want dye your hair after doing it several times to get the perfect color

The comment about removing black would mean you can remove any color dye is not true, most stripping agents do not remove semi-permanent color (pink, blue, green).

I just used this on my mom & it worked amazingly! I agree that it's consistency should be a bit thicker cause it was a bit messy due to being very liquidy but I highly recommend this! It's only going to remove oxidative hair color. If you used a permanent color to lift your natural black color to the auburn color you chose and then applied a color extractor, you will be left with what ever underlying pigment you originally lifted it to. If you're trying to achieve black again, you shouldn't need to remove any existing color.

when you dye your hair it changes the pigmentation of it. Example: if you have natural hair and it's, lets say, dark brown, and you dye it black; it changes whats underneath, but all you see is black. When you remove the black dye it usually turns red, orange, or yellow. if you changes the color of your hair, the ONLY way to get it back to its 'natural' state is to grow it out. you will always have to recolor after removing a dye.

If you're going to color strip your hair, you're going to need to go to sally's for color stripper. It has to be done multiple times, and gradually. I used to dye my hair black, and I'm still getting the black out... It's been 9 months since I colored it.

Good video. The only thing I need to say is when she said "if you can take black off, you can take any color off". This isn't necessarily true. If it is a direct dye where the hair color is coloring outside the hair, it will not work, which is mostly the bright pinks and green hair I believe she was referring to. If it is a permanent dye where color is packed inside the hair shaft, then it does work.

i believe the roots was her natural color. the color remover only removes dye so if her roots had grown out since she previously dyed her hair the color remover would not do anything for them.
