most animals choose "fight" when they feel there's absolutely no other chance, a Snake is not able to perform critical thinking but its instinct tells him that attack is dangerous (he could break his fangs or get hurt in a fight), thus, if possible, they choose to run or remain hidden. Of course, while this is true, as they said each animal is different and you could be unlucky to bump into a snake that was already stressed and decides to bite you, so protective gear is always the way to go.

@@mrobinson9297 Many kinds of snakes can actually wilfully control if they inject venom during a bite nor not. I don’t know much about it, but I would love your take on how they treat their animals and if this would be a safe/humane way to teach my dogs rattlesnake avoidance while hiking. Obviously I wouldn’t want to do it if they way the course is taught is traumatic to the snakes.

@scarletamazon3455
@scarletamazon3455 2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear Kevin approves of the training and has helped people with it! I hope the training goes well for you. I'm a dog nut, but living in the UK, no dangerous snakes to worry about with my dogs. I'd be terrified about rattlesnakes and my dog if I were in the US! I'm a big believer in positive training methods, and wouldn't use a shock collar for any other type of training, but I would do it in a heartbeat to teach them to stay well clear of snakes. I know my bumbling, curious dogs would be at such a high risk, and the shock of the collar on this occasion to teach that aversive response is worth it, since it could well save their lives. So don't let anyone talk you out of it, you're doing it for the right reasons. It would be fantastic if we could just tell our dogs how dangerous snakes are and to stay well back, but sadly, we can't. A short sharp lesson in this case is one of the rare times I fully support negative-association dog training. I've heard that the snake training is very effective too?
@JennFredrickson
@JennFredrickson 2 жыл бұрын
@@scarletamazon3455 generally speaking, we haven’t done a ton of aversion training with our dogs. Just for streets/cars and horses. It’s always been a concern of mine, hiking in California with them especially. A few summers ago we had the husky vaccinated against rattlesnakes but it’s not really a vaccine but it will buy you time to get to a vet and antivenom treatments. And thanks for the feedback Kevin! If we were in your neck of the woods we’d just want to have you do it. My biggest concern was that the snakes in these trainings weren’t treated humanely.

That Puff Adder is the no1 snake for venomous snake bites in the whole of Africa. They bite more people than any other snake on the continent. So as good looking at they are, they are lazy, slow movers who bite extremely fast. People tend to step on them and get bitten as a result. They also have the fastest strike of any African snake. They are native to my country, South Africa and I have seen some massive specimens here.

Wish Kevin was an eligible man. He’s absolutely amazing in every aspect. Watching their videos is what has gotten me thru losing 2 dogs within weeks of each other. They died of old age. It hurts so much. I still have my medical service dog. Can’t imagine ever losing him.

Thanks Kevin, i even asked Dingo about the rhino viper head twitch thing because i had a female who used to do that.. i wondered if it was a generic or physical thing i should worry about, but apparently it's a legitimate social behavior!

The mythology around “anger” in animals causes so much suffering. I loathe videos with titles that include words like “rage” “fury” etc…everyone I’ve seen involved a frightened/insecure animal with a human at fault.

I think that you had such great success (less bites) because of the respectful way you have handled these animals. It really show's that those babies have been handled with care and they don't have to worry as much as animals that have been handled badly. This was an interesting video, it really shows people who might feel these creatures are just evil killing machines that they don't just want to bite. Even in a lighthearted video you manage to teach so much. Thank you! ❤NERD

How's Snarfels going? Haven't seen him in awhile! This was a great episode, I love watching Kevin doing socialization training with the venomous snakes, it's fascinating watching them learn! I feel like here in Australia that because if the venomous snakes we have that there is a such negative attitude towards snakes. Unfortunately (even though its illegal to kill or harm wildlife) people's first reaction here is to chop its head off. I've lived on a farm and been up close with Red Belly Black snakes, Eastern Brown Snakes and Tiger Snakes, hell I accidently stepped over an eastern brown snake and been a foot a way and it didn't even move for the attack. People need to understand that no wild snake wants to attack you, they don't have it in them, it's purely a defensive action when they do bite and even then its not best for the animal. One day the greater populace might understand. Beautiful animals that just need to be respected and loved.

Just goes to show that snakes are the "murderous" creatures most people think they are... they are just trying to survive. When they feel no threat, they don't try to defend themselves. Amazing with the "dead" snake! I didn't know that other snakes besides hognoses played dead!!
