Love seed saving. I saved some zinnia seed and many others.

OOOO This was sooo fun thank you!!!! It would be so interesting to know if the seeds taken from the bottom of the bloom where the colour is different to the top, would be a different colour variation.

Excited to see your results. I’m doing a similar trial with my zinnias. I can’t wait to see what cool types come out of my cross pollination. I also suspect that the queen limes don’t pollinate as easy as the others. I had low seed counts on mine as well even after completing drying.

Looking forward to seeing the results of the cross pollination

Im curious how cross pollination will occur with saved seeds verses when you planted them the first go around. I often wondered this with Floret.

Can't wait to see if they have a high germination rate harvesting seed when there is still so much color!

Really interested to see how they germinate as this year mine were a disaster. I'm in the Southern Hemisphere so it's mid Spring here. Collected my zinnia seeds last fall. However three times I've had a go at germinating them but none came up. Ended up having to buy packets of seeds. I had harvested when the flower was completely brown, so maybe I should try when still has colour. 🤔. On another note I saw a video of a successful zinnia grower who puts the seed straight in the freezer until it's used. 💯 germination

Hi Christine, I experment a lot I find when your saving zenias you have to peek at the seeds while its on the plant, bend the flower pedels up so you can see the seeds. If they are black they are good to save, if they are light colors they are not. I mark my stems with ties of wire cut up milk jugs and make tags tied with wires then I harvest seeds only. The pink one is too fresh, those wont grow.
