Absolutely right. I just saw a bunch of books in the business section at a big book store advising that. In sales you might say something that could tick someone off; In negotiations, you might say something your "opponent" might use for leverage; In a new romance, you might say something she might misinterpret... and people tune out during long stories.

Good tips. I'm fragrance-shy. Concerned about using too much. I want a fragrance to add to me and not announce my arrival and I'm not sure I have the self-awareness to do that. Is "commanding presence" synonymous with charisma?

Regarding the fragrance part, I don’t really think you need something very unique or out of the ordinary, since most people don’t use any fragrance at all, just about any fragrance will make you stand out. Just make sure you don’t overspray, so you don’t stand out in a negative way.
