heres the order: *learn to just RIDE. i mean really learn. be able to turn tight corners and handle holes, bumps, and hills. be able to spot possible problems in the4 street like pebbles and cracks. just get really good at just cruising. just cruising around is SOOOO much fun by itself. but i know there are those who are saying "yea its fun, but its not enough because i want to learn tricks". thats good. its good you want to learn. but if you want to learn FASTER, you need to learn how to ride like the wind FIRST. *practice controlling your board and your body while on the board. so practice jumping up while riding and landing back on your board. do small manuals. small easy nose manuals. nothing crazy. just enough to help you feel the board changing orientation under you, and your balance correcting itself. *once you can ride, control your balance and can somewhat manipulate your board under you (i.e. small manuals or kick turns), then move to small ollies. it doesnt matter how they look or how high. just get the feel of the board rising off the ground being pulled by your foot. because the ollie is not just a "jump". the ollie is a vital tool used to get you either over things or off things, or to help you get air so you can perform flip tricks or other air tricks. you dont ollie just to ollie. your ollie should have PURPOSE. the ollie is made so you can jump over stuff or into the air, but take your board with you..not just for jumping. so give your ollie purpose. start by just practicing the movements and motions until you can get some air. then immediately move to ollie over things. i dont mean cars...i mean cracks or pine straw or shadows. small, flat things. this is to get the idea of taking your board with you when you jump over things, because that in itself is a mental hurdle you will have to face. once you can manage small things, just gradually move to larger, wider, taller things. find your own pace....everyone is different. *once you can manage performing ollies on demand and have the feeling on lock, combine the two. ride and ollie over everything. *start with small tricks. anyone can do any trick if they practice. dont give up. keep going for years and years and years. then look back at your old self and see how gnarly youve became. congrats...youre now the real deal. go shred.

im a beginner, i fell and scraped my knee bc my wheels stopped at ONE small crack, it wasn't even big but i haven't been able to skate or walk properly for over a week. still waiting on it to heal but it shows that clearly it wasn't a huge thing at all but even the smallest things can be so unmotivating, only if we let it be. the first fall i experienced, i thought i should just give up. instead, i got back up and kept going. aside from the fact that we chose to do this & we're so passionate in making it work, falls (whether they're big or little) are one of the most motivating things about it. getting up shows that we can keep doing it. thank you for this comment, it was inspiring & after watching this i think i needed to hear it haha :))

I think one thing that helped me is that I practice you're tricks. This way you will start seeing improvements and will make you want more. During lockdown I could some tricks but I had not yet gotten good at them. So I went and practiced them over and over again. I got a lot better at skateboarding. Even learned how to kickflip , noseslide and 50 50. Even started skating some drops and gaps that before I wasn't confident enough too skate. So in short , practice , you will get better and skateboarding will start to get a lot more fun.

Bombing hills and steep places is the funnest thing I can do without absolutely murdering myself. And it helps improve my balance and comfortability on my board. I have 78a 54mm wheels and it's the best wheels for street in my opinion. Speed is always a factor and the roads and sidewalks are rarely smooth. So having softer wheels makes me faster than normal 99a wheels. FYI wearing safety gear helps with confidence and decreases the fear factor. I personally wear wrist guards all the time. Helmets and knee pads at the park.

I got into longboarding over skating many years ago and wound up getting into downhill trail boarding. The thrill I get cruising down mountain roads at 40 mph is my drug

Longboarding is so fun, I suggest everyone get one because it is easier to ride and helped me get into skateboarding. I love my Sector9 board.

I live in a bumpy rural area... Filmer / ATV wheels make a huge difference in having fun on a crappy surface. 59mm 80a is what I use for that myself. It rolls through most rough stuff. (does bite HARD when it bites, so wax the board where the wheels can touch)

Took me a whole summer to learn and consistently do Ollie's but after that everything else came to me quick. 2 months after the ollie I was doing all the basic flip tricks including varials, fakie and sexchange flips/varials! Literally just practice everyday. That's really all it takes is repetition, dedication, and commitment!

I stopped skateboarding at age sixteen after being only really good at manuals, (switch-) shove-it’s, drop-in’s and doing hill bombs. I skated for only two years but never got over the fear of landing simple kick- or heelflips, never learned any grinds or slides, so I was really blocking myself. Seing my pal break his whole arm in two pieces trying to Ollie over a small curb terrified me so much that I never got over it. Today, 21 years later at almost age 38, I bought my first skateboard since then and stepped on it. My knees are wobbly as hell and it feels strangely unknown yet somehow quite familiar to stand on a board again. My first go for an Ollie got me landing on my wrist but I got the board up in the air. Most excitingly, I can still do the switch BS Shove-it right away. I know I’ll get hurt a lot in the coming days. But I love the feeling to get into skating again ❤

Been skating for a month, and even though all I can do is Ollie up and down curbs while cruising, and the occasional shuv it I’ll never stop again. 25 years old and I wish I had stuck with it when I was 14-15.

Nice video 😄 For me it‘s enough motivation to be able to do a trick sooner or later and stay focussed

If you never skated before, getting a cruiser is the way to go. You will learn board control, proper heel/toe carving, and maybe some sliding, all while getting from point A to B. Im rockin' a Loaded Poke I bought used, it's the best for the city,. If you can ollie and/or powerslide a longboard/cruiser, you got some skills.

I've been skating for 4 days now. I just built a brand new board, my 1st one was 7.75". My new one is 8.5", and man it feels better! I'm learning to Ollie, I got the general riding and pushing down for the most part. I wish I would have started years ago.

I cracked my femur by myself when I was 14 back in 96 I was by myself about a mile from home. The closet house to me was across a four lane. No one could see me until I got to the road I made it scooting on my board halfway when I started blacking out. My friends girl lived at that house and saw me luckily. Skating alone is a risk that you shouldn't take.

I've been skateboarding since 98. Can't ollie ,broke my left wrist, left ankle, jammed my right elbow ( can't extend my arm all the way)and my left knee is now starting to bother me. I still have fun and still practice for an hour or 2 a day. If you love the activity cause you find it fun your legit in my book. The way I see it as long as I skate I'll eventually get it and just have fun along the way
