I wish Dr. Greger would STOP using the word “vegetarian,” every time he clearly means VEGAN. Seriously? I know for a fact he does not advocate eating cheese, cream, cow’s milk, eggs, etc. That’s what a vegetarian diet includes. Someone please point this out to him. He’s been doing this for years 🤦🏻♂️

I run both blood and qPCR stool tests every week at my clinic for intestinal permeability. After many hundreds of patient pre and post results, I can attest that plant-based eating is the only consistent interventional diet that restores a compromised intestinal barrier. Yes, targeted nutritional supplements (butyrates, humid acid, glutamine, etc) and dramatically reducing all sources of glyphosate helps tremendously. But without a plant-based food intake, the condition returns.

I have a story. I was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer in middle school. It was chronic, only really getting better when I avoided salty and oily foods -- something I discovered through trial and error. 5 years ago I watched some Nutrition Facts videos, and switched to a whole-plant based diet. Now I have the strongest stomach of anyone I know. I still eat whatever is on the menu when I'm out with friends (including meat) because I don't want to appear unreasonable, but I just seriously never get sick the way other people do.

What did your diet look like when you first started making changes to get better?
@reinux11 ай бұрын
@@Shamanhoodvibes Really strictly against salt and fats and animal protein at first... udon, brown rice, miso soup, chickpea sandwiches, lots of tea, lots of fruits and nuts. I think a couple things from Greger's cookbook like the burrito and banana nice cream. Japanese hot pot is useful in these situations since you can just omit the meat, and you end up with a kelp-based broth and vinegar/lemon/daikon dip. Also, it might be genetic, but I could eat all the sugary snacks I wanted. I guess my otherwise clean diet made me able to process the carbs better. Once I got better a few months in, I started adding some other Japanese/Asian stuff I liked -- natto, kimchi, gyoza, pho, vegan pizza, some mostly-veggie Chinese dishes. Not all of it is super healthy per se, but I still had to be really strict about not eating meat or dairy for a year or two more, or I'd get really severe acne. At that point, I was early 30s, not particularly athletic, but hiking ahead of early 20s people, some of whom were experienced climbers. And I'd be the only one without muscle aches the next day.

Hi, Annie Esther! L-glutamine is an amino acid. It is considered nonessential, because our bodies make it, as mentioned in this video: nutritionfacts.org/video/testing-your-diet-with-pee-purple-cabbage/ If it has any benefits, it would likely be due to an alkalinizing effect, which can be easily achieved with a whole food, plant-based diet, which also feeds our beneficial gut flora, keeping our intestines healthy. Nothing from jars, cans or boxes, no supermarket soy milk or yogurt. Everything is prepared from scratch at home. His numbers aren’t as good as mine. As soon as you went in on a whole plant based diet... I knew you were full of sh*t. Then I started looking at the studies you gave as references lol, sealed the deal for me. You are either extremely dogmatic in plant foods which is non species appropriate for human beings, yes we are omnivores but have always leaned towards carnivore. Your research is opinion based at best as its made up of epidemiological and observational only which is the weakest form of nutritional study for a reason. You went on about fiber however... Fiber its self comes from a study completely based around a theory, there is still to this day no data supporting fiber is any better then a placebo effect in fact the opposite is true especially for those with IBS like symptoms, removing fiber actually improves symptoms which makes sense considering our intestinal track isn't made to digest fiber at all no matter the type. As for the claim that fiber feeds good bacteria... Again, never been proven. You are picking from theorized studies which any diet besides SAD has this opportunity. Next let's move onto antinutrients which only a plant based diet has... There's a reason there's so many ex vegans sharing their intestinal distress. Not to mention plant toxins such as Lectins, Amines, Tannins, Trypsin inhibitors, Salicylates, Oxalates, Sulfites, benzo ates, MSG, Non protein amino acids, Glycosides ,Akaloids including solanine and chaconine, Triterpenes,Lignins, Saponins, Phytic acid, and Isoflaones which can cause some serious harm. Please be more mindful of the information you are giving. If you are vegan, smart up and realize that pushing ideologies on others is irresponsible of you. These are people's lives you are playing with. The last issue is randomized studies lol give me a break you know better.

@stebbey6006 Жыл бұрын
A lot of the stuff you mentioned is wrong. Fiber feeds any kind of bacteria wether that is bad or good ones. If you have a dysbiosis and have a lot of bad bacteria in your gut or even SIBO, the fiber will feed those bad bacteria and make you feel much worse. So you should focus on getting a healthy gut microbiome first, and then start eating fiber to feed those, then good, bacteria. And meat should not be excluded from human diet indeed, especially beef which has a ridiculous amount of health benefits.
