Every one of your thoughts, words, and actions bear your "signature," the Buddha taught. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh shows how we shape this world through these three channels-and how we can transmit understanding, compassion, and joy through them.
About Thich Nhat Hanh:
Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Zen master, scholar, poet, and peace activist who passed away in January 2022. He authored more than 40 books in English. Sounds True is privileged to offer the best of his many profoundly life-changing retreats on audio and video.
About the "Living without Stress or Fear" FREE Audio Retreat:
A life without stress or fear may seem like an impossible dream-yet Thich Nhat Hanh has spent a lifetime proving to millions that it is within our grasp. On Living Without Stress or Fear, he shares a path of hope: that we can, through the practice of mindfulness, find freedom from the grip of emotions like anxiety, anger, and despair.
Intro music: The "Drops of Emptiness" album by Thich Nhat Hanh and the monks and nuns of Plum Village.

So many parents have passed on their "wounded child" to their kids. In fairness I suppose, they weren't aware they were doing that. But as someone with cPTSD, I am learning how much my childhood has affected my adult life. The healing process is slow, and sometimes very painful.

It is true. It does take time to heal as healing comes in layers. A person may deal with something right now and once they deal with it and practice what they learn, that is how they grow and heal. Then, months or years later, an issue may come up. Then, we deal with it at that time. So, it does take time. Regardless, as long as we continue to grow and heal. I do wish you well (and others who read this) in your healing journey.

I’ve been feeling very guilty and ashamed because my daughter suffered a lot in her childhood growing up divorced, the stress has had a very detrimental effect on her health. I hope we can heal as a family upon these realizations presented here. Thank you.

I felt the same and tbh I still can ,I was told once by a Monk that the time I spent in guilt only takes away the time I could spend now healing and being present,I have never forgotten this and so when I get pangs of Guilt I do what our Thay teaches us and that is to stop everything and do the healing with the Practise and his teaching oh how to actually do the inner child work is so simple yet so powerful that I have been shocked at the results ,from one mother to another I hear you .I am you and we are not alone may we know peace and find happiness

Thank you for the teaching. Being mindful of what we produce... I resonate with that. I mention here a practice called Steps to Knowledge. It goes by a book with the same name, from Marshall Vian Summers. It is one pathway to grow up spiritually, which I feel is essential in parenting as well.

Love the message but promoting this as a “how to” video is misleading. Not one point in this video does he explain how to heal the inner child nor does he give tips on where to begin. This is a very insightful video, but please update the title to be more accurate :)

Love the message as well! Even though from the title one would expect "step by step" instructions, it does mention the things one needs to do. I can recall some: 1) practice mindfulness 2) watch out for your speech i.e. make your speech positive and compassionate 3) watch your actions in the same way as watching your speech 4) meditate before marriage to ensure you heal your inner child 5) if one already has children meditate with them with them 6) pay attention to the thoughts you're painting your future with. :D 😀

So true, specially if your child is an empath. I am guilty of transmitting my wounded inner child to my mine because I did not know any better and was not conscious at the time and caused my child terrible pain and suffering.

Sometimes children can be very very badly behaved and it’s not always possible to show compassion. And some children are wired to be difficult and it can be extremely triggering

@@bayleaf0513 yes mindfulness can help to an extent but where the child is persistently having tantrums and is raging out I don’t believe at all it’s possible for a parent to be a complete saint and tolerate that. Where the child is pushing boundaries over and over

You are so right about behaviours being triggering. Behaviour is usually a gauge of the emotional state. I’ve heard that the Buddha said, when you can’t relieve the suffering of others, relieve one’s one. Maybe meditation or mindfulness can help ease the stress that comes from being triggered. Then when we feel better as parents maybe we can better understand what is happening for the child. If we can help shift their emotional state or support it differently, hopefully the behaviours settle as well. Not saying any of that is easy though 😘

@@allysondavey9420 I think it’s also yo do with generic wiring. Of the mind. Not every child is wired in the same way & so kids have the ‘naughty’ or ‘disobedient’ gene
