Love Love!!! Thay has a beautiful way of using words to describe capturing the most intense emotions, gathering them up into sizable pieces , throwing them (that doesn't seem like the right word) all aside and addressing them in more manageable pieces as if they have gone through food processors blades - breaking things down into philosophical units. And when you think about it, you open up the food processor to see a homogenous mass only to say, "Good grief, that is a homogenous mass that I just threw into the food processor of my brain." And maybe that is where the challenge of understanding originates.

I agree, Jeana. That’s the approach I use. I use the image of “Land of Misfit Toys” from the “Rudolph” claymation movie. 😊 Work to move the energy from the feelings (without judging the feelings) and place in a positive reservoir.

I had to deal with strong emotions to.. She dumped me because I did not listend to her and I was crying for love asking myself everyday why I deserved that rude behavior from her I only wanted a girlfriend.. And then one day I realised and started to notice to find a partner is not something easy a man and a woman really have to like each other and it has to feel great once you see each other and that is something verry rare in this world.. I found peace by knowing 🙂

The teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh are beautiful and a gift. I grew up with depression and tried to commit suicide twice at a young age. If I had known these messages then I wouldn't have felt so lonely or stuck. I hope one day children everywhere grow up learning how to feel and accept their emotions. Thich Nhat Hanh's messages are healing for the soul, thank you to the Plum Village Community for sharing and spreading.

No no no Sandy. Please teach your kids that they have within them the only guru they'll ever need. Nature gave us the most amazing natural device in the universe, Our Brain. And we are slowing rewiring it with bad information through the media of every stripe until we only know what we are told. You are the ONLY person that really knows what you need. Don't make you children into autonotoms. Otherwise you're teaching your kids that they are NOT enough and they'll spend the rest of their lives searching for answers outside of themselves and led down winding roads to dis-enlightenment.

This grabbed me. "Cannot have happiness without going thru suffering" or "running from suffering to make happiness is not wise." Happiness or joy AND suffering go together. Brilliant yet simple wisdom. Reminds me of the biblical analogy (not verbatim) that one "cannot uproot the weeds lest you destroy the roses." They grow together.

I nurture the garbage of my life knowing that it will produce happiness in my life. No need to run away from suffering. Learn how to make good use of suffering. You will suffer much, much, less. These words resonate with my Spirit. I want to share these words with all of humanity. Mainstream religions operate on a guilt and fear basis. This will never bring peace and happiness. Thank you, Thich Nhat Hanh for teaching these principles of life!! Rest in Peace.

6:17 I think, for the first time, I actually felt relief because of insight. A mixture of relief and happiness. I first heard of the concept of non-self years ago, but when I'd think about it and impermanence I felt more of a mix of sadness and nihilism. But sitting with my suffering and knowing that I'm much more than one emotion just gave me a happy feeling of letting go. Like walking through life while carrying a boulder. You have to keep walking, and you have to walk through an endless variety of pleasant and unpleasant terrain, and there was never a beginning and there is no end to your walking. But you don't have to carry that boulder.
@OhHapppyDaay
@OhHapppyDaay 3 жыл бұрын
What if that boulder is another person? One’s own only child. And what if one continues to seemingly lack insight into ones own behavior even up until the season of grandmother? And this one is a Vipassana meditator who seems to be caught in the trap of the illusion of time? The past’s anger squeezing like a python. If suffering pays an important role in happiness, I must be being prepared for quite a good bit of it. 😃💖Yes yes I am making flowers up out of compost, garbage, suffering. I will make good use of it. I Am an artist, after all. This is the art of suffering manifesting. Good, Good. I see as I am writing the answer has been right here, sitting with me, quietly, waiting to be realized. Make good use of the suffering, suffer much less. We are all in this together. Regardless of what mind tells me, I Love my daughter and my daughter Loves me. Truth out of the compost.

I am so glad I found this video. I wish I found this years ago. I am very grateful to the beautiful, gentle, loving, kind and compassionate Thich Nhat Hanh, for showing up in my life, exactly when I needed it. 🧡💗 I am really grateful for this reminder. I imagine if all humans were able to practice this on a regular basis, this world will be much more peaceful and happy.

I came in search of this reminder from Thay, feeling low and lost, amongst the strong emotions brought on by the Covid-19 Pandemic, Thay's words are powerful, I always come back in search when I'm feeling lost, if only we knew on a more accurate level how he'd deal with some of challenges we face, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I've always liked solitude, but for this length of time, even I'm struggling, and find myself returning searching for answers and a way to cope, but I keep fighting, because I am more than just my emotions 😊 🙏🙏🙏

Oh my goodness, this is such powerful information. To learn the art of suffering, to do deep belly breathing, and to smile at suffering, or anger, or other strong emotions. And we can foster a loving mother child relationship with the strong emotions. And that they go hand-in-hand with happiness. Thank you thank you kindly for enlightening us💗💗💗😇😇😇💪🏻💪🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🤗

I wish they would teach this to every child up to high school. It makes sinse to smile to your anger so that way you wont have to develop a gambling habbit, drug habbit, drinking habbit, to deal with the anger😂❤❤

My friend, in this life you are like an instrument. None of us play the instrument very well initially. We fall. We make mistakes. It takes practice to keep going and getting back up. And then, after a while we reach inner and outer harmony. We play in the orchestra better. 🌞Through trial and error. Everyone starts out as a seed. Sometimes we tear through a few things before we get to the sunlight. So that we might grow. 🌹

@@tinahuskey6539 you’re right. It makes it harder when your family judges you on your past mistakes and treats you differently because of them. However I am letting my life unfold and starting to make some progress, surrounding myself with like-minded people. Thanks and best wishes.

Ramana Maharshi taught the method of inquiry to resolve painful memories and triggers. Basically if you're feeling upset, you ask yourself, "Who is the one feeling upset?" The goal is for one to remember that we are really Source and that the ego is a temporary state. Yes, we screw up because we're humans so just try to do the right thing and practice forgiving yourself and others when complications arise.
