Same. My aunt with Copd just got out of the hospital. She said she thought she was going to die, and she swore she was going to quit. She was home one day, and she was sneaking outside to smoke. I don’t know how she thought I wouldn’t smell it… I have asthma and allergies, so I have selfish reasons to want her to quit, too. We only live together because my grandmother whom I adored died last year. I couldn’t face going home alone, so I retired and stayed here in my grandma’s house with my aunt and cousin. I guess I need to get busy and sell my house in Texas so I can move out of here and get my own place.😢

Ask them what it feels like when they want a cigarette and can’t have it. Empathize with that. (It’s very real…..you know how you are dying to take a breath after swimming under water? That’s what it feels like to crave a cigarette….and it’s panic inducing). And don’t try to influence them when they are very stressed or have lots going on. See my comment above about mini quits. Dare them or bet them (something motivating to them and that you can actually deliver) that they can’t wait 1 min for the cigarette they just picked up to smoke. Make it fun and not judgemental. Eventually (not same day or week) dare them or bet them they can’t wait 5 mins. Helping them build confidence that the panic will subside on its own and that they can wait.1 min, 5 mins, 10 mins and so on is EXTREMELY helpful. Scare tactics and judgement make quitting harder.

Hi! I feel like telling you about my journey. I have vaped every single day for the last three years because I live in a house of vapers and you can't run out of vape the same way with cigarettes, you can recharge it until you buy a fresh one. I probably hit it over ten times every single hour until i went to bed and don't believe that vaping is safe because I have chest pains, like stinging, I am afraid to take deep breaths, I am paranoid my lungs will pop, I cant finish full sentences without stopping to breath and if I didn't start walking everyday, I feel like my lungs would have just died on me and I have trouble eating with a damaged throat AND my teeth are always yellow and my bottom gums are tiny. Remember, only in 3 years! I smoked my last puff 18 hours ago and it wasn't hard only because I didn't go cold turkey, I just slowly cut down everyday by changing my habits. I didn't smoke before meals, I tried waiting after I woke up to see how long I can go and I reminded the other vapers in the house to not vape in front of me, hide their vapes and to not speak about their vapes and they did a very good job by the end. I'm hoping I never hit another vape again and that I can motivate or scare the other vapers in my house to quit as well.

Tobacco is very addictive. I quit again 11 months ago. Stopped buying the things completely and got a tube of nicotine lozenges to suck on when the cravings hit. Took about a week or two for the cravings to cease, and I didn't even finish all the lozenges.

Mini quits. When you want your next cigarette wait 1 more minutes before you smoke it. When you do smoke it enjoy it. Do this a few times a day. Next week push it to 5 mins and remember to enjoy it guilt free when you smoke it. Next week increase minutes again. You want to start to timer right when you want to reach for cigarette. Eventually (and sooner than you think) you’ll be waiting like an hour after the craving starts. But the panic will be gone bc you know you can smoke in 1 hour guilt free and enjoy it. Eventually (again sooner than you think) you may just to a few hours. And eventually it will be 24 hrs. And then when you are ready and have built up enough confidence that the craving will ebb and flow and that you’ll not only be able to handle it but be excited to handle it…..you will quit for good.

I’ve spent countless nights crying for my dad. One time he found me, and I talked to him about it. He told he he’d quit, yet today I saw yet another empty cigarette box in the trash. I don’t know what to do anymore 😢

I really want to know, how to trigger someone to habe the awareness for quit smoking. I really hate nicotine, they make people became hypocrite. Some people say smoking is dangerous but they also smoking. I really love my girlfriend, I thinking about her future, I really wanna her stop smoking, but it's impossible if from her doesn't have any intention to quit smoking. Can any scientific research have the anti-nicotine for human body? People say they smoking because they want, but it's not them, it's nicotine to ask the human body for smoking again and again

Keep telling them the facts that its not them, its the nicotine and the side effects of smoking. It worked for me but basically i told myself that everytime I inhale, I am breathing in cancer. Tell them to set a quit date and if they fail, its ok, write down the time you smoked and try to go farther than that the next day. With this method, it took me about two weeks to quit but I have very low urges to smoke now.

Thank you! I administer a quit smoking page on Facebook and am going to share this! Hope you don't get any loons accusing you of removing their vape pens by force haha- Sometimes people get a bit defensive in public, as you may ever have witnessed on the Internet Lol... So this is how I help people. Providing education, some support It keeps me busy. I also like your advice to go easy- in my private life I'm too much of a drill sargeant b/c hahah I run a page, I've heard it all, and I know how possible it is! :) I'm wearing Invisaligners now, and then will have some beauty work on my eye teeth, which two things are the final legs in my quit smoking journey. Well who knows what else can happen, but I've wanted to get a hold of my teeth grinding, and my ever-crookerder teeth and shrinking palette. And fixing my thin front teeth to be white and shiny.. Wow! I can't wait. I mean, I can, but I am looking forward to that next leg, after I get the braces off. Thanks, again! Oh, I quit cold turkey in November 2011. One of the first people I told was my dentist b/c he'd also layed down the facts for me and I'd been dithering, embarassed at each visit. : ) Thanks, Doc!
