I use this method too. Only suggestions I would make is that a pair of duck bill scissor would make cutting off the excess fabric much easier and safer for the fabric.

That's a great idea!

This is a wonderful trick. I used this while teaching my daughter how to hem her own homecoming dress.

This was extremely helpful as I am a quilter of 30+ yrs and don't do much with clothing. One of my grand daughters asked me to hem her prom dress and it had 4 layers. Thank you very much!!! A happy Nana who's grand daughter will be happy too!!!

So much easier than cutting it off and trying to turn it under twice.

Very helpful. I'm more of a fixer of grandkids stuffies; however, my 14 y/o granddaughter asked me to hem a layered dress. She needs it in 4 days. I haven't sewn a hem in decades, but it's all coming back as I watched this video. Thank you!

Very helpful -- much easier way to hem the underlining and gives a much nicer and smoother edge!

So glad it helped you! I used to try to cut and then press and it just does not turn out nicely at all. Once I found this method I never went back!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Very helpful. My daughter got married 3 weeks ago and I had to hem my 3 layer, full circle, pleated, chiffon dress and it came out awful, but it worked. Thank God no one could see that! Now my son is getting married in 2 weeks and his fiancé needs her wedding dress hemmed and wants me to do it since she saw me do the other. Fingers crossed!!

Glad it was helpful, thank you for watching! It's definitely a struggle if you try to do it the "normal" way for hems. :D

I love this way! I tried a rolled hem foot and had issues, but this way is so much better. Could you use this method for chiffon?
@pindropshop2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this would work for anything you want to hem with a narrow hem
@chrishanner5242 Жыл бұрын
I use this method for chiffon every time!

Great video thanks. Would this technique work for silk? I have just finished making my daughter-in-law's wedding dress which is silk cut on the bias. I am still contemplating how to hem it. Any advice you could offer would be appreciated. Many thanks.
@pindropshop11 ай бұрын
Yes, this would be the best way to do it. You can start pressing it up and pinning it and make sure you like it. Then stitch it down. There's no real risk until you start cutting it. I would definitely do it like this though, because if you try to cut it and hem it up it's going to be a nightmare, even more so if it's cut on the bias. Thanks for watching!

Do you use a special thread for this?
@pindropshop Жыл бұрын
I do not use a special thread. I would recommend all-purpose polyester thread. Good luck!

I will have to try this out. I pin, and iron. I then cut to leave than a half. Do a rolled hem and stitch. Just plain scared of a hemming foot.
@pindropshop2 жыл бұрын
Rolled hems are good too, but no need to iron it up in that case! I only really use the rolled hem on my serger though, not too versed in using the rolled hem foot on the regular sewing machine. If the dress had a rolled hem before, I do a rolled hem. But if it looked like this before, I do this. Hope you try it out! It's easy!

How did you get the 6 inches around? Wouldn’t it be Mabe less in the back due to the buttocks lift?
@pindropshop Жыл бұрын
I have the client try the dress on and I mark it at the floor all the way around. I find it is almost always more off in the back and less off in the sides and front. Not sure why. I want the dress to hang at the floor all the way around and that is what I have to do to achieve it.

Can I shorten it at the waist
@pindropshop2 жыл бұрын
Yes you certainly can. Oftentimes that's the best way to go, especially if you don't want to disturb any designs that are made from lace etc. at the hem of the dress.
@debiperkins2 жыл бұрын
Leave less than a half inch. (Don’t know where that went!)
