In this instructional video, Mark Crossfield, an experienced golf professional, shows you three MUST HAVE golf skills every golfer needs to make sure they strike consistent iron shots.
Key Points Covered:
Control Your Loft: Mark breaks down the difference between static loft and dynamic loft in the golf swing and how adding loft instead of de-lofting your irons during the downswing can negatively and positively effect the quality of your iron shot golf strikes.
Low Point Control: Where is the lowest point along the arc of your swing? Mark explains the how hitting the ground too early or too late in your downswing can effect ball striking in golf. Generally, better golfers have a low point just after the ball, and how they use vertical forces from the ground in order to better control their low point an have solid ball striking. Watch this golf tip to learn how to master your low point and strike iron shots consistently.
How to Strike the Middle of The Clubface: Mark discusses how striking irons shots badly, from the heel of the toe of the club can lead to inconsistent iron shots, and how to hit the middle of the clubface.
Why Watch?
Effective Drills: Mark demonstrates practical drills that anyone can incorporate into their practice routine.
Proven Results: These tips have been tested with some of the world’s best players, ensuring their effectiveness.
Hit More Greens in Regulation: If you're struggling with your iron play due to poor accuracy or bad ball striking, his video will elevate your iron play game.

Been watching Mark for years (since the reviews in the range bays). Also have been binge listening to his podcast after a return to golf for myself. In a sea of false info and inflated KZbin egos....Mark is a must watch/listen to. Shout out to Greg and Lou too!

I must say I started watching you Mark when you were doing reviews from the bays at Exeter. These were groundbreaking. I went away from you when you did more travel "shows' on course, just not my thing. I am now back as you have returned to giving great golf advice. Your true talent is in delivering complex advice in a simple and consumable way. You are a great coach with a clear passion for teaching. This is also evident in your podcasts. I like the myth busting and clear talking, keep doing it!!

Mornin' Yall'.....This video really will get you back on track if you start to struggle a little. I was getting a little lazy with my iron swing but after watching this, I really re-engaged using all 3 of the points in this video. Thanks

Mark - I have been working with a coach this year on improving my iron play. My overall movement is pretty good, I early extend some, and when hitting irons during a round the ball fades as I go down in loft. I'm pretty sure I hit closer to the heal. I put tape on my irons when I work on my swing and there are a lot of healy shots. Today I played after seeing this clip and used the idea of taking my stance and then aligning the hosel to the ball and then swing. It fixed my fades (atleast for today). I struck all my irons straighter. Thanks for that tip!

Love the trolley, looks like a puppy craving for some love at the start of the video 😀 On point #1: Been working on my (traditionally inside) takeaway for a couple of months. Like Mark demonstrated, I love doing the Justin Thomas takeaway clubface check in my routine. I recommend that to anyone. Compressing irons is addictive, I can't believe it took 23 years and a club fitter (and the likes of Mark) to show me negative AoA and low point. Back in the nineties at least some golf pro's taught people (incl me) to have the low point AT the ball. On point #2. I hadn't thought about that. I do tend to keep more weight on my front foot throughout the swing. How does that contribute to duffs exactly? (because I do still duff some). Absolutely love the idea behind that 3rd tip to setup normally and change address to the hosel. Will certainly try that. Not sure if it'll promote some early extension though?

Putting a dot on the top center of face and trying to hit/present that to the ball is interesting. Can't wait to try it as I still continue to struggle with consistent dynamic loft. When it's good, I strike my irons well and GIRs are great. If not, I'm all over the place and scrambling for par. Thanks, Mark!

It’s also important to note that it’s all well & good talking about what makes good strikes but everything starts with what you are trying to do to the balls flight

Hi Mark, good video as always! However, need to comment regarding the audio quality. This video plus the latest ones have had very one-sided audio, which is extremely annoying when using a headset to watch your videos. Almost makes it unwatchable sadly. Not sure if it's the recording outdoors or similar, but maybe look into it :) I also checked if it's on my side, it's not, other videos and sounds are ok.

should de-lofting an iron be also a function of club head speed? It’s clear that de-lofting should get the ball further (carry + roll), but not sure it applies to just carry … especially for lower swing speeds? The course I play at most weekends has many greens protected with bunkers and water hazards short of the green, so consistent or longer carry would be very convenient; but not sure de-lofting will get me there (especially with longer irons) … or am I wrong and should de-loft??

I keep working on things. A lot of things I have tried since the first of the year are working.I started off the year in the hundreds and this past weekend, I shot an 83. The best score Ive had is 82 last month. My biggest problem is between my 2 ears. I have a severe lack of concentration. I am still trying out things you tell me to do and they are working. It's me the problem.

@5:16 Mark misspoke here, you want to deliver with the loft of an 8-iron (less loft than a 9)! Just in case that confused anybody. Play well chaps.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, we know that taking loft off improves strike, and we know that there are optimum launch windows too. Why is it then that wedge shots should launch at around 30degrees irrespective of the loft of the club? Surely this means that we are decreasing the delivered loft of multiple different wedges to the same amount? Am I missing something?
