I am 61, and I started singing at 55 after a lifetime of wanting to learn how to sing. I found a teacher, and I worked at it. I've gotten better, but, I have to say, I really enjoy these videos - everything is broken down, well explained and systematized. And, victoria, I really enjoy your dynamism and energy. It's fun. Thanks.

I missed your videos and wisdom Victoria!!!! New update: I have a beautiful vibrato now! YEY... It is appearing more naturally now, is stable and could be heard haha.. Thank you for an amazing lesson, I needed it. I have this problem too, I can hold a note for a short time, and then my voice gets suffocated. I'll do the exercises and report my progress :) Big love!

I do not know that (stylistic differences aside) there is only one way to sing but there sure are many ways to go wrong. Once again you show us that to improve our singing we have to recognize how we are going wrong and then address it. This video is an exceptionally good example of your teaching. IMHO On a totally unrelated subject...do you think the voice determines in part the technique adopted? Spinto and dramatic tenors sing like Gene Kelly danced- muscling the manly moves while leggiero and lyric tenors sing like Fred Astaire- floating and gliding with smooth elegance. Corelli didn't sing Rossini and Schipa did not sing Verdi. Or at least not much. On the other hand both Lanza and Wunderlich seemed abler to go either way. Is this just interest and choice by the singer or does the voice limit one's technique? Please continue your videos. They are very good and exceedingly helpful. Best wishes.
@Victoria-Victorious3 жыл бұрын
My answer is yes to all. In training, we work many aspects of the voice. We want it all. Of course, each singer will have areas that are stronger, depending on the voice type, but every voice needs to work on strength and agility, plus different vocal textures.

Vibrato is something that does not come natural to me. I can sing very long notes, but I always need to work on my vibrato. It's there, but on long high notes (G4 up) it's inconsistent and seems like it is originating from the diaphragm. May I ask for any sugggestions?
@Victoria-Victorious3 жыл бұрын
I will make a new video tomorrow on vibrato. I think it’s time for another. If you have not watched the videos in my vibrato playlist, I would start there.

I can hold a long note if it is not thst high, but in my top part of the register, ñike for example eb5 (my highest note is g5 but badly spunding). I can keep it for less time. What i mean is, the higher the note, the harder it os to hold it longer. And, i used to be able to hold notes longer years ago and i stopped singing for like 5 years and now i last a little less

I have a couple of months I started practicing on my own but how often do you think I should practice every day like on videos you got for better sound, pitch & how to find out if I'm singing in tune
@Victoria-Victorious3 жыл бұрын
I say minimum 10 min a day, but 20-30 min a day, 6 days a week would be better. Make sure that you do the right exercises. See my other videos where I discuss that. Record yourself to hear if you are singing in tune. There are lots of free pitch monitor app that can help.

Hey Victoria! A bit unrelated to this video question. I haven't been practicing for a long time (that is an understatement) but I am starting from the basics again and my goal is to ingrain them so that everything would be habitual. Except I have a slight hiccup: my voice gets tired quickly. One thing that I can think of: during the day I like to always sing something casually especially when listening to music but I feel like it could be not good for my voice because I don't do it "properly" or think about technique or anything. Could this cause tension and this tiredness? Should I stop and start focusing singing only when I'm practicing and build up some kind of a foundation? Or maybe I'm missing the real problem and the cause of it? Sincerely, Simona
@Victoria-Victorious3 жыл бұрын
Hi Simona! Good for you for going back to the basics! That is what we as singers always need to remember. So to answer your question, I cannot tell what you are doing without seeing and hearing you. I recommend working with the videos in my Beginner’s Playlist and do the exercises. Also see the videos in my playlist on Throat, Tongue and Jaw Tension. Practice frequently and for shorter periods as you train and build stamina. Focus on ease in the middle voice first. The fatigue should decrease as you practice with good technique.

If I get higher and my sound becomes more "classically nasal", does it mean Im changing resonance?
@Victoria-Victorious3 жыл бұрын
If it does not sound smooth and connected to the rest of your voice, I would say yes. I cannot be sure without hearing you. Changing resonance is not a bad thing if you are making a conscious choice to do it.

@@Victoria-Victorious Yes! I actually still can't connect my voice uwu. I just feel the voice to "climb up" so high notes becomes easier. Thank you! Video is very informative.
