Good tip, I had no idea VLC was capable of this, but after converting to MP4, the video file didn't play at all. Da Vinci isn't accepting said files either... :( EDIT: The files I had a problem with had some unusual letters/characters in it. I tried renaming the files and it worked like a charm! If you have the same issue, look at the filename and see if there is any irregular characters in it, and if so, try renaming the files to something simpler so DaVinci can "read" them. It worked for me, hope it helps!

I do this but I get no audio and or it crashes resolve all together

When I put the mp4 into the timeline it doesn't have a sound wave and no sounds comes out

Mine is changing the orientation of the video and cut out audio when I converted. I just converted mp4 to mp4. No idea why. AND it still won't import to Davinci.

@@linsylar7649 The fix I found for mine was to transfer the file to my desktop and pull it into DaVinci from there, without the need for extra software. If I tried to transfer from my phone or external storage, even if re-formatted, it would do weird stuff. I could make a very minor adjustment to the video ON my phone beforehand, like changing orientation before transfer, and the MP4 was corrected that way, then transferred it to my desktop so I could then pull it into DaVinci. I hope that helps... ❤

@5DeepHustla turns out I never needed software or conversion. The problem was that I had transferred the video into cloud storage or hard drive storage instead of directly into the computer I was using to work on the video edits. You need to keep the file in a folder that's IN that computer, not something external, until you have completed the edits and created your finished product. Once you're done, THEN you can transfer everything to the final location(s). For some reason, DaVinci has trouble pulling files for edits if the files are on an external hard drive or in a cloud service. As for why this MP4 software thing messed up the file, tho? Never figured that out. Thankfully, I found out I didn't need it anyway and was able to uninstall it.

Thanks for the tip, but it makes no sense at all that an advanced software like Davinci would even have this problem. I tested importing certain mp4 files in Davinci, and it just shows media offline. But then I tested importing those same files into another software like CapCut and it imports just fine. So it just doesn't make any sense to me at all as to why I would jump through all these hoops just to get my footage to work with Davince, instead of just using a more user-friendly software that gets it right the first time (at least with certain projects like in this case).

There must be a better way then this? When you have hours with video, this would take for ever. Did these steps from another video, still did not work. Strange that DVR has these issues with MP4. GoPro video fine, dji not fine.

DaVinci Resolve can handle MP4 files. But I’m willing to bet, the codec isn’t something that Resovle likes Codecs are the compression type. You need to transcode MP4 to DaVinci Resolve preferred DNxHD or ProRes files and then transfer the converted MP4 files to DaVinci Resolve for editing. DumboFab Video Converter can help you transcode MP4 to DaVinci Resolve compatibleDNxHD or ProRes codec with high output video quality.
