Today we’re going to talk about how to help improve eyesight, and I’m going to show you the best exercise to correct bad eyesight. If you want to be able to see close-up without glasses, this video is for you.
People wear corrective glasses, but they don’t really correct anything. They really could basically make your eyes dependent on the glasses, and then you end up needing a stronger prescription.
It’s the shape of the lens that allows a person to focus on something that’s either far or near. What controls the lens in a muscle called the ciliary muscle. When the muscle contracts, you’re able to see close-up. If you can’t see close-up, you may have a problem with this muscle.
Most people spend a lot of their time looking at things close-up rather than far away. If you contract the ciliary muscle constantly to look at things close-up, the lens could become atrophied to the point where it won’t work well anymore.
Something simple you could do is just go outside. Go for a walk and look at things in the distance. Spend 45 minutes to an hour just looking far away and focusing on distant objects. This could help take the stress off of the eyes and give them some relief.

I used to work nights driving a car for 7 years and my 20/20 vision started to suffer and I couldn’t read street signs unless I was real close. What helped me was doing exercises for my eyes. I parked and sat in my vehicle and focused on a smudge on the window for 3-5 seconds then focused on something in the far distance inline with the smudge, I alternated back and forth for about 10 minutes. I did this once a day for a month and my vision went back to 20/20 and I didn’t have problems reading street signs anymore. This was back in 2008 and my vision has been fine ever since. Now and then I do that exercise for a few days just so I don’t lose my good vision again

Tried the advice. Was skeptical, but after about 20 minutes of staring from my window at the furthest objects I could see, they actually began to clear up some, even making out outlines of things. There's some strain felt, but from the perspective of a muscle being used to some soreness, I suspect that's why. When I refocused back to closer views, I have to say, things were much more vibrant and clear. A nice exercise. Thanks for sharing.

@@arenh2049 you're vision probably doesn't change your brain likely just get better at focusing in order to create a clearer image with less strain. Kind of like your eyes being lazy from wearing glasses so it's harder for the brain to focus without glasses.

@Paul Joe Well, this is about improving your sight, no fixing it entirely. There is no magic pill for some eyes :) Lkie I will also need glasses, but I am sure I could use this to relax my eyes and use them better.

@Paul Joe What Dr. Berg said would apply in the reverse too I think. If you look at things in the distance a lot without spending too much time looking at things close up your eyes are going to have a harder time contracting since they're in the "relaxed" state all the time. Try doing what he said but for nearby objects.

Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to uncover bad eyesight try Magonsi Simple Sight Expert (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got cool success with it.

when i was a young boy i told my father i wanted him to buy some glasses for me to see better. He took me outside and asked me what the big yellow thing was up in the sky was. I told him it was the sun. then he said: the sun is ninety three million miles away. If you can see that, how much further do you want to see?

Dr. Berg, this was completely unhelpful because it assumes a person is farsighted. I am nearsighted. Would your advice to me be to look at my iPad or iPhone more? Or read books more? Seriously, if you are going to address this subject at all, make it complete. I am very disappointed with this and am wondering how many of your videos are so incomplete in their understanding of the subject being addressed.

This is really true! I started using glasses at the age of 9 until the age of 15 but I remember I didn’t wear them all the time and realized my eyesight was getting lazier. I stopped wearing them and now I’m 30 and my eyesight is very good. In fall, spring and summer time I walk a lot outside and meditate in the wood looking at the trees, 🍁, 💐 , soil, sky, etc... It just beautiful...

@@merryandmagic2112 Yes! I’m turning 32 in December in my eyesight is very good! Better than when I was younger. You have to start going outdoor more, work out our eyes’ muscle more to see improvement. Nowadays people spend too much time in their phones, computers, etc.

@@libertasca1636 thank you so much for reassuring this concept. I was so doubtful. Ever since covid started I have been spending more time indoors reading books or on my phone. Just recently I started having double vision and sometimes blurred vision. I have been going out everyday now since last week and I do see a 10% improvement. So I wasn’t sure if this was going to work. But thanks so much for sharing your experience. 💗

I began doing this years before I saw this video. First step: I put away the glasses (except for night driving). Then I did this technique and recovered much better vision after just a few weeks. Thirteen years later I passed the state driving license eye test (after two interim renewal eye tests when I wore my glasses) without eyeglasses. Most "healthcare" today is, I think, about money for the licensed practitioners (in cahoots with state, federal, & professional bureaucracies).

​@@hreemshreemkleemdiopters are astigmatism and the person who wrote the comment said it helped see for driving so they were most likely nearsighted (see good close up and bad far away)

I remember a book titled "Better Sight Without Glasses" by W.H. Bates that taught the same thing. I was not very dedicated to it but by using its exercises on and off I was able to go from -6 to -3 in about a year. Excellent lesson by Dr. Berg and it's always an education seeing his videos.

@@khajaamjid4898 It's possible and good luck. One of the best exercises for improving eyesight is going outdoors on a clear day and focusing on far-away landmarks like distant hills, trees and buildings.

me and my friend are the same age 29yo he lives at the top of a small mountain, he said each day since I was kid I sit at the edge of the mountain and stare at the people and the street down, his eyes are so sharp that he can read a very tiny printed numbers at the restaurant's door we were 7 meters maybe or more away from the door. I can't even see the numbers with my glasses...I just remembered him when I saw the video.he told me something similar about staring at longer distances

You are so fortunate as is my husband who is 66 and still has 20/20 vision but needs reading glasses occasionally. I was wondering if you need reading glasses or did working outside help you to avoid needing them.

I've been telling people exactly all you have just said for many decades ! Even the atrophying of the lens due to lack of use. I suggested the exercise too. So nice to have a simple short video I can show them. You know how many people have listened to me and worked with the advice that need glasses though.... Not a single one. Sometimes I think there is a deeper problem that they are ignoring. Great little video thank you, maybe having a Dr say what I have been saying will make them pay better attention and put more effort in.

Yes!! My eyes started improving over these past few years. I couldn't figure out why. Now, after watching this little gem of a video, I know why!!! I've been making more of a habit of going out to my local parks and spending time meditating, walking, enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Not only has my general health improved over the past handful of years, but my eyesight has been improving as well. I sometimes still use my reading glasses, especially at night when it's darker and I'm getting tired, but right now, as I type this, I'm not wearing my reading glasses. I think you're right. It's really that simple. Thanks for your videos.

When I was younger I wanted to wear glasses because it looked cool. Now that I'm older I wish I still have my 20/20 vision...I'm tired of wearing glasses for reading and driving. I will do this eye exercise Dr. Berg. Thank you

Cristian, I will share my results which I started a couple of years ago doing a very similar process...only I did and still do, on occasion, something called sun gazing. Look it up. I was very faithful in the sungazing practice for 4 1/2 months and at 54 almost completely regained perfect vision. I got lazy but my vision, even today, is still close to perfect. I can go many days without ever using glasses. I still like to wear the readers at work, since it helps my mental focus. I am happy to hear about Dr. Berg's technique since it will give me fewer excuses. Good luck.

Yes, that is the way I do it. I made it to 22 minutes and 30 secs of continuous gazing.

actually 20 years ago i had a piano teacher, that told me to do the exact same thing-after few hours of practicing the piano i should go and relax my eyes looking at the sea. :) Nice advice!

I recall using the computer for hours with my eyesight getting worse, then going outside for about an hour and found my eyesight restored. I never thought of it until listening to your, DR.BERG video about our eyesight. Thank you for that simple observation and solution.

I couldn't imagine not seeing birds, trees etc... I live at the bottom of a mountain and on 12 acres of pastures. There are birds of all sorts and many hawks, crows and owls as well. At night there are a bazillion stars in the sky and shortly after springtime is over the mountains are lit up with thousands of the tiny twinkling lights from the lightning bugs... get out in nature, you don't know what you're missing...you'll be glad you did.

Dr. Berg is so knowledgeable and educating us. I am so grateful. I think every part of our body if we do not use it we lose it. If you think you are old, you will be old. Another key is to let ur eyes muscles relax by letting things become blurry sometimes when you're not reading. My eyesight has barely changed in years of schooling and work and I spend ample time reading close up. Relaxation is the key. I also see the connection between wearing glasses and needing higher lens prescriptions with friends and family. As usual, the medical solution is worse than the temporary condition.

Can you explain what you mean by letting things go blurry please? Do you mean put the thing too close/too far so you cannot read it anyway? Or to deliberately go clock through something or go cross eyed etc so many ways things can go blurry. Thanks in advance

Funny I felt the same and refused to wear glasses as my eyesight with them off I noticed deteriorated, I was told I was crazy but I knew my eye were getting lazy.I finally get my reckoning 😁

I realized lately that just looking at far away things could probably reverse it with time, but it's very hard to ditch the glasses when the things you want to see like the stars or moon or even people standing far away from me are very blurry without them :/

@@cesarbarron4070 The reason why people in their mid forties and up gets difficulty reading is because of the lense in the eye getting more dense, hence less flexible. It has nothing to do with the muscles in the eye. The only help atm is reading glasses, progressive glasses, different veriants of contact lenses.

I’ve been extremely nearsighted since elementary school. I didn’t grow up staring at close screens. I played outside a lot. So looking at close things can’t be the only problem.

you might want to watch the video again and pay attention to the first part of the slow change in eyesight. If you have a childhood stigma that's another cause but not related to this one specific concept. I'm sure Dr. Berg wasn't suggesting that this is what it is in totality.

Also, there is the issue of excess sugar in your system and a lack of electrolytes...primarily magnesium. Every time my vision starts getting blurry, some magnesium threonate helps me sharpen my vision.

I also always had bad vision and played outside a lot but I noticed that I was a very absent minded introverted kid and even if I was outside I didn’t really focus on stuff far away from me . Now I know how to focus and so far my eyes improved by evening out. I always had one weaker eye. Now their the same -the weaker eye caught up with the better one :)

I notice when I have a poor night sleep I often have bad eyesight and also that when I go through a whole period of bad sleep my eyesight gets much worse.

@@cookie-dq6zj yes. I haven’t done eye exercises like I wanted to, but I’m going to start them up again. I’ve also started listening to things as much as possible, rather than reading. When I’m on the phone, I look out my big window into the sky and distance. On my 40 min walk, look into the distance, which is easy since I live close to the country. One thing is that it’s also emotional. When I’m stressed about something, I takes me need my glasses. When I’m relaxed, I don’t need them as often

Thank you so much Dr. Eric. I am constantly looking at my computer and I have to read alot at my job. So I will start looking at different far away objects to relieve that tension in my optical muscle. At least there is a natural way to solve the vision issues people face today. I love your videos. I've learned alot about different things from you. I subscribed to your page. I think it is important to learn about our bodies to find ways to correct any issues naturally instead of taking medications. Thanks! Again! :)

Love your videos Dr.! You're such an inspiration for me to take better care of my overall health. I found out recently that my three year old nephew is now wearing glasses due to strabismus. Is there a particular eye exercise(s) that can help with this condition? Will looking at a distant more often correct his eye sight? I have been researching online but can't find any remedy for it. Thanks for all you do for all!

This is valuable advice. I have worn contact lenses for many years but last November I suffered a cycling accident which among other things severed an optic nerve so a contact lens is only worthwhile in one eye. Now I find that I need to exercise my eyesight, which I know can’t be fixed. Thank you.

Hi Eric, This could help people who normally have their eyes constantly fixed on a pc or mobile screen. I don't do that very often but I do look at far distances a lot every day and for many hours. Nevertheless my eyesight for near objects has declined. So: Please give us more advice/exercisions. Thanks in advance, Eric and many thanks for your helpful video's! Shena52 For us with myopia, this isn't really relevant whatsoever. As our distance vision gets worse, the eyeball goes from round and circular, to oblong shaped like a football. (This also leads to increased risk of retinal detachment because the thin lattice wall has to make a decision to stay where it is or get pulled forward with the front of the eye) There are absolutely NO eye exercises in the world that exist to make your eye go from oblong back to round. It's permanent.

What I started doing with a few years is occasionally look out the window to something far away and also to help excersize the eye muscle is focus on something small and look away again a few times during the day. I've noticed that slowly my blurred distance vision is correcting itself. I've been wearing glasses since I was four years old though because my eyesight has always been bad.

I had an eye exam 2 days ago and found out that my left eye is a lot weaker than the right. I was able to read all of the eye charts presented in the exam with my right eye and barely one with my left. When I asked the nurse if there were any exercises I could do to improve my vision she said, “not really”. Knowing how some of those in conventional medicine feel about alternative treatments I decided to ignore her and did a search for eye exercises while I was waiting for the doctor. This video popped up and I decided to follow the directions. Since my eyes were dilated I waited until the next day to try and oh my goodness, just simply focusing on objects in the distance I immediately felt pain in my left eye. This tells me that there is some merit to this information. Other videos I watched suggested things like blinking a number of times. I have listened to Dr. Berg’s information on Keto and supplements so I decided to follow his advice. I’ll come back and give an update of my results a month or so.

I had glasses since 4th grade and my siblings had glasses many years later. My parents never had glasses. I was a straight A student and my siblings were happy to get D’s. Now I can see why my eyes were compromised. I was into books while they went out to play. I wear contacts all the time now and I’m in my 60’s. I’m wondering if I can still improve my eyesight with this method. 😵‍💫🤓😜

As an optician (for 25 years) I see a lot of change compared to when I was a kid, there are a lot more people who need glasses. I don't believe everybody can train there eyes but a lot of people could. Poor nutrition and a lot of time behind a computer can ruin your eyes.

go hard For my family, I concentrate on nutrient-dense foods but overall a well-balanced diet. We have plenty of PROBIOTIC rich sources...yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi. Food high in FAT SOLUBLE vitamins..,meats, especially organ meats, cod liver oil, organic butter, cheese, pasture raised eggs (we have 3 chickens 🐓). And, of course lower starch veges! It’s not just about what you do, but what you don’t do! Cut out/limit sugar, junk/highly processed foods, sodas & other nutrient depleted sources. I even limit the amount of fruit! We are not perfect by any means but we eat good most of the time! 😉

Would this work for astigmatisms? I was always told if I don’t use my glasses when I am old my eyes will be so tired that the muscles won’t work and I won’t be able to see.
