That concept of ‘newness’ really stuck with me the first time I heard you say it - I realized I really do get an emotional rush from newness and I had to ‘break up’ with that feeling, which was constantly leading me into failed fashion experiments. 😆

any advice how to break with that?
@sonjafitz3505
@sonjafitz3505 2 жыл бұрын
@@ivanabarisic9974 it might not work for everyone, but I just keep repeating to myself that it’s a newness addiction, which is a bottomless pit, and if i’m pining for a particular item, I think of what I already have & love that fills that role in my wardrobe - I make sure I’m only keeping and consistently wearing stuff I love - basically, the most important thing is just to slow down the buying process and give yourself time to think!! If you find yourself on the precipice of an impulse buy, you can say, “let me think it over for 24 hours, I can come back if after cooling off there’s still a solid reason why I want it.” It’s hard at first but gets easier. 😊

Facing Trauma and fighting with depression for the last year, I gained weight and feel so bad! Buying new clothes to make me feel better and more beautiful was a kind of strategy which failed... Your vid is so true and I need to face this... 🥀💕

I hope that you are feeling better as the months pass. It’s true that clothes can’t address the deeper trauma. I do believe though that we deserve to be gentle with ourselves and deserve to look and feel good at any weight. I’m facing a new disability and I’ve chosen my three style words (Alyssa Beltempo) and buy clothes accordingly to challenge ageist and ableist stereotypes in society. Take care

this is such an important topic that can be applied to everything, not just fashion but all types of consumer goods. Also, it really doesn't help that every day we are bombarded with ads that promote the "next big thing" or the next new trend. Really enjoyed this video.

Alyssa beltempo is a great youtuber who shops her closet and she has done lots of videos of recreating outfits without shopping. So for example you ser a photo of putfit with turtleneck and white jeans. But you have only black jeans so you can change colour palette of the outfit. And you don’t have a turtleneck but you have a scarf that you can tie on your neck to give the look similar vibe and feeling (something chunky on your neck) without having to shop for one more item. I hoghly recommend her channel because she is really great!

Such a good video. Another thing to avoid when you feel ~inspired~, analyze what makes the inspo outfit appeal to you. Is it that it makes someone's body look a certain way, is it how it plays with the whole outfit, is it that it actually makes the accessories pop? What "job" does the piece do in the inspo, and will it do that job for you, or is that job met by another piece you already own or not even a job you care about having a piece for in your closet? Don't let good inspo replace your own taste by reproducing outfits.

The novelty is part of the fun of buying new things, but shouldn’t be the only criterion, I’m trying to buy only things that will last a long time. I have a big wardrobe, but do a rotation at least once per season, and keep everything in nice condition, so it feels like getting a new wardrobe all the time. I store everything clean and ironed, on hangers, so that my “new wardrobe” is ready to wear when the weather changes. (I also have a year-round component of things like jeans and t-shirts). I bought too much stuff online because of lockdown boredom, so now am strictly limiting purchases for a long time.

Omg I really needed this. You must be reading my mind 😳 lol Been trying to add many pieces to my wardrobe for the last 2 years and a good 90% of them just don't work. I get instant adrenaline when buying something new that I picture to myself that will look amazing on me and fix my wardrobe problems of having nothing to wear but it does the opposite. I just end up with a ton of unneeded clothing and still nothing to wear lol. You are brilliant and I will be doing exactly what u suggested. I have been trying to only buy what makes me feel good in but also is an item I can wear often and with existing clothing I already own and love that compliments my body. Thank u Thank u Thank u for this video 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

This video gets at a huge underlining problem that I think Americans especially live by. That’s living based on how we feel. Which is impossible to do. Emotions change all the time. One day u might love ur job, the next u may hate it. But u dont quit on the day u hate it. Ppl fall in and out of love and I think thats y relationships r so difficult to have these days. Bcuz theyre not founded on the same morals, values, and ideas but how ur partner makes u feel. If ur in a marriage that feeling will not last. But weve been told that it will. I like to see it as multiple opportunities to fall in love again…if u married a good person. The little things they do for you or how they treat ppl who r lower than them with such kindness can make u feel love for them again and again. What if I don’t feel good being a good person? What if stealing makes me feel good? And hurting others? Do I still act on my feelings? Of course not. I’d act on ethical grounds because I know the difference between good and evil. This is y we give sociopaths a break, bcuz they don’t feel like we do. But they understand which side they chose. They know exactly what they’ve done.

Thanks for another great video! I am so happy that your channel is growing. I am an early subscriber and always impressed with the thoughtful analyses. I learned about my person style an came to accept that I love dresses. Once I accepted this, it was easy to block the noise. I used to purchase blouses and black pants all the time and always felt like I had nothing to wear. So I would keep shopping. I started to notice that when I was purging my closet, I would rarely get rid of my dresses. I also noticed that I looked and felt my best during spring and summer when I only wore midi dresses. There is something to be said about understanding that sometimes a personal style can begin with an attraction to a certain type of garment. And during lockdown I wore dresses and felt to myself and so comfortable. I am totally in love with my closet now. I used to hunt for clothes that made me appear modern. I now live in my printed and colorful dresses which I love and wear with long black cardigans or black blazers. Sometimes to find your joy, you have to ignore the “essential” list. Every influencer would say to do a capsule you need to have separates. Now I rethink what is essential to me. Thanks again. I appreciate your journey.

The best part of that was that I couldn't try on the clothes with Covid so I bought less and spent less but now that the dressing rooms are opening back up I will just not try things on so I don't spend over $100 making sure to get something for myself and my 3 children.

My style is still of a 15 years old girl but I am a mother and over 30. I don't shop because it is impossible to find something I like. I kind of envy people who do like fast fashion... I find no satisfaction. Hate the high waist and blazer and white blouses. I kept my clothes and starred at them even if I can't wear them no more... Not because they don't fit, but because I would not be taken seriously
