I've mostly stopped buying things on sale because often, the reason why I bought it was because... It was on sale, not because I had planned to buy it. And looking back, it was the items paid full price for that had the most wear lasting the longest in my wardrobe. And that's simply because I bought knowing I was looking for it, needed it and liked it. I only learnt many years later of this concept of cost per wear. I'm so glad you talk about it in your channel.

Similarly to your questions, I try to separate my fantasy self from my actual self and lifestyle. I work from home, go to the gym, run errands, go to muddy dog parks- a silk blouse or fancy dress just doesn’t fit my life. I can appreciate its beauty in the store while recognizing it’s not for me.

Growing up poor and only able to shop in thrift stores and clearance racks, I became the queen of shopping sales. But with body image problems and not knowing my style, it wasn't a healthy shopping habit in the long run. I had to learn the value of buying something expensive in order for it to last a long time and not have to replace items the didn't fit, shrunk, was scratchy, or just never wore. Great tips!

I have been tracking everything I wear every day since July 2019. I track total wears with additional columns to track if it has hit £1 per wear and if it is has hit 30 wears. I love seeing the 30 wears and £1 per wear columns turn from red to green!

I think I’ve actually watched this one before but it’s been a while, and your tip about training yourself to leave a store empty-handed has really been smth I’ve been trying to do lately! I actually am not uncomfortable leaving a store empty-handed in general, but I’ve specifically been practicing leaving even after trying on and finding items that I like or maybe want. And I don’t mean I’m being foolhardy and not buying things that I need, ofc, but things that r kind of in the “would be nice to have but not necessary” or “I’m not in love with it but I do like it, and it’s cheap” zone. I’ve found it’s made such a difference for me! I think I have like shopping momentum, once I get smth then I’m like energized to get more and I have to purge the feeling, lol

Great questions to ask with each and every purchase. Conscious consumption is the only smart thing that makes sense. The cost per wear is a real gauge to whether the items is worth the money and your time.

My biggest issue is the fear that the item will sell out if I wait before buying it... do you have any tips for how I can look at this problem differently?
@NajaSierra3 жыл бұрын
I'll probably address this more in more videos, but you can only really practice to get better. Let something you want sell out and hopefully you'll realise (not that you don't already know this on a conscious level) that nothing bad happens when that does happen and that other things you want will take it's stead.

I’m trying to cut down on the amount of money I spend on clothing because I am a broke college student and it’s not financially healthy for me. What works to prevent me for buying something is when I’m in the store, when something catches my eye I try to visualize myself wearing it, and where I’d wear it, what I’d do while wearing it, and how I’d look and feel in it. and if I can’t I immediately put it back. If I can, I ask myself if I’d ever realistically choose it over the similar items I already have in my closet, and about 70% of the time the answer is no. It’s very helpful.

I don’t think expected resale value should be taken into account, except for luxury bags and solid gold jewelry, maybe. Clothing and accessories lose all their value instantly because clothes are so inexpensive nowadays. There are many poor people where I live, they won’t pay $20 for a higher-quality used item, they’ll go to Target or H&M and get two new items for that price. My lowest cost-per-wear items are mostly fast fashion, or one level up high-street. The main thing is how many times an item is worn. That said, I do have quality standards for my cheaper items, mainly no synthetic fiber fabrics.

i have bought 6 shorts in the month of january alone and have bought shorts in the past (summer 2020) that i have not worn yet. 😅🥲 i dont know why i couldnt stop. the only month/weather i could potentially wear it is August when its peak summer here in japan. other months its just too cold for me 😭 is it because im deprived of summer/hot weather? since i used to live in a tropical country in philippines where its basically various state of hot.
@NajaSierra3 жыл бұрын
Maybe that and out of habit? Sounds like you're unconscious and not really in a mindful place when shopping for shorts. Like you said yourself, you can't even really wear them. Maybe it's time to set up some rules and challenges for yourself for a while regarding shorts xx

I have only 2 shorts. I live in the mountains so summer itself is short. I have a black short and 1 khaki colored short. So neutral and goes with just about every shirt and t-shirt in my closet. I've had these shorts for about 10 years. Still look like new. When I downsized upon retirement, I adopted the capsule wardrobe concept. Now, everything in my closet gets worn and I only kept things I felt great in. I no longer impulse buy. At the beginning of each year, I make a short list of items I would like to add to my wardrobe. Then I go back and look at each item and ask myself if this item would work with my existing wardrobe. Often, I decide I don't really need that item. I've become very intentional about spending. It saves a lot of money and I always feel "put together."

Wow! You have a daith piercing! Do you recommend it? Was it painful to get your ear piercied? I was considering doing it since many say it helps with migraine and even some doctors recommend it as a possible solution... I think that it is also very cute and elegant :)
@NajaSierra3 жыл бұрын
I only recommend it if you want it of course. I have one in both ears and I think it’s sooo beautiful. I heard about the migraine thing too and I would say it’s definitely worth trying if there’s a chance it would work, don’t you think? 😊 I’ve had 15 piercings in the ears in total and this was the most painful one because it’s hard for the piecer to get inside and get a grip, so they have to pull as they pierce. But it’s over in 5 seconds, which is no time!
