Perfecting thumb-under third & fourth/third & fourth over-thumb is critical to scale technique and must be made flawless.

Thank you. Tried this on blues and whole tone scales. It does just what you describe, particularly when you do fingering on the fly rather than planning it in advance (which is my usual practice, being a chart-bound classical player)

Can you do a video like this but with chords? Just an easier approach to getting used to moving around using chords
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
It's much harder with chords and there are SO many different methods and techniques of doing it... but sure, I can certainly make a video explaining some ideas :)

do you have any suggestions for hand placement? what fingers should be used?
@jfjusa16 жыл бұрын
always a great, clear lesson! thanks so much! does the fingering change if you use say, an "a" starting note, as opposed to a "c" starting note?
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
A lot of these exercises have different fingering yes, it's also a great exercise for practicing quick thinking fingering for improvisation - for these specific exercises I actually try not to remember specific fingering.

Hi simon. I am a big fan... Help me a lot... I just would like to request if you would teach us how to use the scale if we use a certain chord. For example im playing C major scale then. I'm using the run of I VI IV V. During C what numbers in the scale i can press. And them Am what keys can be press. Or it depends upon your listening
@jedinovejas55236 жыл бұрын
I hope you got the point
@abdulalshibly39305 жыл бұрын
If you use a c major chord you can use a lot of different scales on it you gotta make sure that the scales you are playing contain the chord notes for example you can play c major pentatonic on a c major chord because the scale has C E G the notes from the chord but you can't use c minor pentatonic because it doesn't have E it has Eb which is not in the chord you can take each chord and try to apply ever kind of scales you know over it so you get a beautiful solo but it takes a lot of time to get used to it I will recommend you to learn about modes scales chords relationship and one more tip between every chord you can change the scale you're playing so you get more sounds out of your solo hope this helped good luck

👍 great video to start with, lovely your video and explanations too. Well my question is this how to fine the key of a song or singer voice too, please explain that for me thanks
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You need to use your ears for that, listen to the song and play some notes on the piano until you get one that 'fits'. Then you need to work out if it's a major or minor key. I'll make a video explaining how to do this in the near future.

Nice video.....have you other digital pattern for use on pentatonic scales ? See you !!!
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
You can use these patterns for pentatonic scales! Just follow the same concept but use the notes from the pentatonic scale instead of the major scale :)

Hi there, your videos have been great help! I'd like to ask how important is reading music notation?
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
It depends on what sort of music you want to play! It's definitely an important thing to learn if you want to be a proficient musician, but it's not necessary, especially for a genre such as jazz where playing with your ears is far more important.

Great video. Right now I'm working on trying to get my fingers used to playing 2 different things at the same time. These exercises would be quite fun, challenging, and good for getting used to playing 2 different things by going canon on these-starting to one measure with one hand and then starting the other. I've found when I'm going through scales and I kind of drift off, cool things accidentally happen. ("Happy little accidents" a la Bob Ross.) Amazing how the piano is teaching me music theory in combination with these videos since I'm more of a visual learner. So what was the inspiration for the whole pig motif? Just curious.

Enjoy your tips and instructions! Please look into vitimin D3 supplements and perhaps a mediteranian diet. You are very talented ....want you to be happy and healthy as well! Thanks again..i look fowrard to your next video. Greg

Haha thanks for the tips Greg, I'm interested as to why you think I need either of those things though! I happen to be living in the Caribbean (plenty of sun) so I don't think D3 supplements are necessary, and I'm also vegan so I don't think I need to be worried about a lack of nutrients. Much appreciated though
