actually sugar, tobacco, cocoa are cash crops so dont matter for food happiness, cheese does. also groceries are better cause of power outages are bad for supermarkets, the other thing is supermarkets need to be spread around the island close to housing, in tropico 4 garages were important to decrease shack number. restaurants also count for food. food happiness is important for all citizens but especially the communists, so rural areas with tenements should be close to the farms and separated from the urban areeas and better housing/education for better effectiveness

A minor note I wanted to add to the edicts: It's indirect, but Agricultural Subsidies boosts farming effectiveness by 50. It allows a very small number of plantations to feed your entire populace, plus have the extra if you need more corn for the automated pens in later stages.

+Anna Alu hah very interested, I knew it's effective for plantations and feeding population but I didn't know that I can feed the whole island just on a few of them, either way I like plantations because they're a constant source of income and don't need any maintenance. Thanks for sharing.

Great question, no they are not, it depends on edicts you got, but generally in Tropico Supermakets and Grocery stores are free for the people, you can have people pay for their food though, they wont be happy lol

I don’t agree that you should never have to import food onto your island. On one of my islands right now, I’m struggling to maintain a workforce across several industries because my valuable educated workers keep starving to death, but there are too many open job spots as it is and I can’t afford to build a bunch of low-profit industry sectors full of illiterate workers. This is where importing food comes a ton in handy, I just build more docks to make space for the food and have a shitload of teamsters which should be a given anyway.

Also considering your island is basically rich and maxed out, you should really boost the budgets of your plantations, not even for the increased production and effectiveness but to make your farm workers richer and happier at that point.

+Gameboy Hotline lol true that but at first it can cripple your economy and growth, I started a new gameplay and as you can I usually have things all over the place then once my economy is secure I destroy and remove them away to parts of the city that aren't populated

normaly the no free lunch don't affect my food happynes, Corn, Pineapple, Bananas, Meat, Milk and fish are the only food in tropico 5 , the super market is better that the grocery store, tropicans don't eat sugar, coffee, cheese or chocolate for some reason, and I am not sure but I think that the transgenic edit decrease the satisfaction
