Awesome video Bro-tato Chip. I've started training a couple weeks ago and have gained 2-3 inches. But not easy as I am 44, work full time and went back to school, But No Excuses! I will study a couple hours and feel a little anxious, so I'll burn that off w/pogos and dunking on a short rim, everyother week I'll raise the rim 6 in. I have my daughter record me, when we go to the gym on Sundays to record my progress. P.S. When u started the video w/a slam dunk, I was sold, u have another sub!

Hey @Nathanael Morton , thank you for the great video man! I am 35y/o at 6'3 and I brought my body weight down from 248lb to 215lb in the last 2 months with a change in diet and just playing basketball as much as I can (also some jogging when I can but its so boring!) I am going to try out these work outs and see if I can elevate my vert. Ive NEVER been able to dunk but I can grab the rim if I am fully warmed up, just no high enough to dunk. I have purchased dunk programs in the past and ran with it not seeing any real results after more than a month of training but I think that is because my BMI was too high so I am working on getting that down. I don't have a gym membership, do you have another video featuring vert workouts with no gym access? Thanks again!
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
My man - I must have missed this comment! Just saw it now. Congrats on the great results! Sounds like a huge lifestyle change for yourself. You should be proud. As far as increasing your vertical jump, you know what I'm going to say! You can increase your vertical MUCH MORE with a gym and weight training equipment than with just your body weight. However, of course it can be done. If you send me your email, I will send you my free body weight vertical jump training program so that we can send your vert through the roof.

wat about warm ups? like any recommendations to warm up your knee's before getting into these exercises?
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
Lord Commander I have a full routine for knee pain/warm ups as well as a dynamic warm up that I am going to post a video on. For now, you can use a VERY LIGHT leg extension machine (around 20-50lbs) to warm up your knees, and the fire hydrant exercise to warm up your hips. You could also use an exercise bike for 5-10 minutes before the workout. I will post videos on all of these things. I hope this helps in the meantime.

hi, I have question. are workouts less effective the older you get? I mean like when you get to your late 20s, do workouts work less than they would for someone younger? I'm 28 and I recently started working out for my jump and my legs have been killing me since I started about 4 months ago. I can't even do a lay up without feeling pains in my ankle and my lower abs. sometimes the pain makes it hard to even play at all. I need some advice please
@NathanaelMorton5 жыл бұрын
So workouts can definitely be less effective the older you get. Especially if you've been working out for a while. Younger guys (especially teenagers and people in their early 20's) get a huge effect from the workouts a lot of the time because that is new stimulus to their muscles and their bodies. It has a greater effect for someone who has never worked out properly before than for someone who has been working out for a while. Here's the thing though - I'm only 27 and I feel very young and youthful, but that was ONLY after I started stretching, foam rolling, getting enough sleep, etc. Stretching and foam rolling has definitely saved my knees. I had tendonitis to the point that I couldn't even stand up out of a chair without pain. So for you, with the right routine, you can reverse all of that and feel young again. You're going to have to get a stronger core and do some ankle strengthening exercises as well. Hope this helps!

How many times a week do you recommend we do this workout?

Hey Nathaniel great video, I’m about 6’2 180 and about 6.7% body fat I’ve just recently started doing explosive workouts for my legs, so I will bring this into my workout, I can grab rim easily just can’t get the ball up there, but I’m looking to increase my vertical. How many days a week should I do this ?
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
Hey Seth - Thanks for the comment! A good rule of thumb is to perform 50-100 maximal jumps per week. If you do this workout for the exact sets/reps that I recommend, twice a week, that will put you at 110 maximal jumps per week. If you want to add in some extra work, I would suggest some standing vertical jumps (such as jumping up and touching the rim for 5 sets of 5 and then finish with a set to failure where you physically can’t touch it anymore). Short Answer - Twice a week.
@Seth-1756 жыл бұрын

as far as your program what will we do about upper body lifts?
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
Michael Roman How experienced are you with upper body? Do you currently lift? I have to put something together with my program. I would start with a split that looks like this: Monday: Lower Body Tuesday: Upper Body Wednesday: Rest Thursday: Lower Body Friday: Upper Body Saturday: Rest Sunday: Rest For upper body, I would do compound movements such as Bench Press, Overhead Press, Bent Over Rows, Barbell Curls, and Dips. Do 4 sets for each exercise. 2 sets hypertrophy (slow and controlled), 2 sets explosive. I hope this helps.
@maskoffmike6 жыл бұрын
I'm experienced. Ahh I see. I figured I'd ask exactly how you would work that in conjunction with the program you have because I was interested but I figured I'd ask the best way to approach it
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
Okay so you're probably in a similar situation to me. My split is push/pull/legs. I do bodybuilding style upper body workouts, and ONLY explosive leg workouts. So I hit everything twice a week, but upper body I'm going for aesthetics, lower body I'm going for power and explosiveness. But hey maybe it's time I switch up my routine and add some power/explosive exercises to my upper body!

To be completely honest I have never even thought about that. That would make for a great video. I am a 2 foot jumper myself. I'm guessing most of the vertical jump workouts I have on this channel with work for both 1 and 2 foot jumpers. To increase your vertical off of one foot, you need to practice jumping off of 1 foot. Dunking off of one foot, grabbing rim off of 1 foot, 1 leg box jumps, etc. As for two foot lifts, it would be practicing everything off of two feet. Excellent question.

I hear that you should also get your body fat down so you don’t carry any extra weight. Like relative strength-a 100lb person that can deadlift/squat 3x their weight will jump higher than a 100lb person that only does 1.5x their weight. Is this true?
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
That's absolutely right. Relative strength is extremely important in increasing your vertical jump. However, it is not the only factor or everyone who can squat 500 pounds would be jumping out of the gym. It comes down to relative strength, yes, but also to accelerating speed and rate of force development. Short Answer: Yes, lower your body fat % while maintaining or increasing strength and you will jump higher.
@bestfitpro8746 жыл бұрын
Nathanael Morton vertical jump cannot be trained and vertical jump is the measure of your genetics. You can train to jump vertically from the same spot but in some macrocycle you will gain only roughly 2 inches. Vertical jump is different from jumping over the plyo box or steeplechase it cannot be trained and it is the only method used by sports coaches to recruit athletes for sports like NFL, Rugby etc
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
Masoud Fitpro Vertical jump can be trained.

Nathanael Morton it simply doesn't work at all. You cannot make someone explosive explosive, you have explosiveness in your genes

Certified QG Strength Training and Plyometrics twice a week. On a third day of the week do 4 sets of 4 dunks (or at least try to dunk) and you will soon get it. I would add in some squat jumps with dumbbells or a barbell as well.

Two times a week is perfect! Don't need to do any more than that. If you do, hit some plyometric exercises on a third day of the week in between the two days that you do this workout. For example: Monday: This workout Wednesday: Plyometrics Friday: This workout Rest or play your sport on all other days.

@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
You have tried this workout for a month? You should be doing this workout ONLY twice per week. You can do plyometrics or various exercises of JUMPING ONLY (No Weights) on a third day of the week. Do not test your vertical jump until you have had at least 5 days to recover. Never test your vertical directly after a workout or even the next few days after a workout. You must allow your muscles time to recover.

What does "rep" mean?
@NathanaelMorton6 жыл бұрын
So if I say “3 sets of 8 reps”, that means you do the exercise 8 times, and then you rest. Then again 8 times, and rest. Then a final 8 times, and then move on. The number of repetitions is the number of times that you perform the movement. So 8 reps of squats means that you squat down 8 times
